Earlier they announced that he's asexual so I don't know. Gay gets shippers moist and so is good for business but asexuals are more marginalized witch please the twitter mob. I know twitter isn't there or cool anymore but it was during the production so could have influenced the writing.
In tumblr land and modern media, anyone claimed to be asexual is basically code for 'a dude who hasn't tried the right dick yet'. So we know where that's going.

Wouldn’t be that definitive as to say it cannot make a comeback, but currently, the industry and its followers are a dying breed. It feels weird to say as we clearly have more icons talking about animation, but it’s usually only Tumblr topics (LGBT, Shipping, So Deep episodes…) or Nostalgia baiting. Given how easily trashed shows like The Owl House or Inside Job become, the massive audience seems to be an echo chamber and in no way an indication of reality unlike 2010.

Hollywood and tech need a shakeup at large, and that will likely be when animation makes more of a comeback.
Whatever did happen to Owl House?

I never saw the show, so most of my knowledge is second hand, but AFAIK:
The show premiered in early 2020 shortly before COVID hit. Near the end of Season 1, there was some sort of prom episode where Luz (the protag) was revealed to be gay for Amity (another character), and Twitter went ape over it, much like Rubiphire back in '15. That ship ended up being the only thing people seemed to ever talk about, at least from the perspective of someone who has surface knowledge of TOH.

Dana herself cut her teeth working on Gravity Falls and rose to prominence when she spearheaded DuckTales 2017. As Wikipedia states, she is an abortion activist and pushed hard to have TOH be gay. Ironically, her push to make TOH gay happened quite a while before the Reimagine Tomorrow stuff leaked out.

Eventually, the series was announced to be ending after Season 2, with the 3rd season being comprised with 3 movie-length episodes that were dumped onto D+ at the end of 2022/beginning of 2023. The series managed a small following, though like I said before, TOH really did just pick up where Steven Universe left off, and thus never really found much of an audience outside of SU/AT fans who jumped ship after their shows ended.

It became another post-Steven western animation example.

The show, at best, came and went. Most, including myself, probably never even heard of it while it was airing. The entire community is nothing more than stranglers who still cling to western animation be it to prove a point about how it is so adult now, or just shipping junkies.

The community is nothing more than echo chamber of people who only cared about it because LGBT shipping and “animation is dying“ grifters that come out at every cancellation. The general public at large was too apathetic towards animation as a whole to care about it.

This, it was always just another lore show that had a lukewarmish reception outside its main bubble of former Gravity Falls/Steven Universe fans either trying to scratch that itch, or they just liked the main lesbian ship that became canon, hell that was the main and only thing that got it trending on Twitter every so often.

What a visually delicious episode, loved it.

Story-wise it was dull and wholly predictable.

I think Viv has a knack for making fun dance numbers, but she needs to accept she is a dogshit writer and just hire someone competent. The dynamics between all the characters felt repetitive and ultimately we learned nothing new.

The obsessed skinny gay fan felt really out of place and all of Fizz's previously established bravado has also seemed to have melted away to reveal a shy scared puppy? The lack of character consistency is getting ridiculous.

Fizz and Asmodeues have lost any edge they had in S1. It's like S2 makes sure you know who the good guys and who the bad guys are.
Can’t disagree there, they both got softened up a ton to make sure you know they’re on the good side now. Asmodeus feels like he just exists to be Fizz’s loving partner while Fizz himself is another uwu baby boy with an abusive boss (seriously, the parallels with Angel and Valentino here were not subtle at all, Viv). It’s a shame after how fun they were in Ozzie’s.

Aside from how I SWEAR Viv's been recycling character aspects from HH recently, Like Moxxie's crime past coming directly from Angel and now Mammon and Fizz relationship being Valentino and Angel (Which is funny, because Blitzo and Stolas is already a diet, slightly nicer version of Valentino and Angel.)

Viv is really weird about writing abuse, because Blitzo can abuse Moxxie all he wants, with one episode of him realizing that its' kinda fucked, then going right back to doing it, Loona can beat the shit out of Blitzo everyday than tell Octavia to be nicer to Stolas despite pretty much never interacting with the guy, and Stolas can be...Stolas towards Blitzo, but Stella, Valentino, and apparently Mammon are the motherfuckers who cross the line because she says so?

The only part I liked was Fizz's ending musical. Aside from that it was fine, but it was more backstory with nothing else accomplished. I think viv and gang wrote themselves into a corner and don't know where to go at this point.
