There's so much soul in it, and god, I miss his old design so much. Much fluffier, broader shoulders, better facial proportions, and the teeth dont look like candy corn. The riceniggers who animated it did the show a disservice far worse than Vivz did.

I've mentioned before that the character designs would work so much better in comics, and I will stick by that. Looking back even before the pilot came, the characters were much more exaggerated not only with their designs, but with their expressions and poses. And that worked with the original premise of a group of wacky, miscast demons who lived together. Putting the characters in an animation media, you have to get rid of those more crazy elements because trying to animate all that would be living hell for most people.

But, if you really wanted to go the animation route, the pilot is obviously just superior to the show we got. Sure, you could argue that the show's animation is "cleaner" and more set to "TV professional standards", but you're losing the appeal that drew people to the show in the first place. Hazbin Hotel, while is a drama, is still a wacky comedy with wacky characters in a wacky setting. Going off-model just fits better with the style of the show, because it's achieves the exaggerated expressions and poses that the characters were originally made for to do.

But we didn't get that, because Bento Box outsources their animation to third-parties, who do the bare minimum of what they're asked because it's quicker and cheaper. Which worked okay with their previous shows, because those shows were based more in reality, and the stiffer animation doesn't really impact the quality as much as it does in Hazbin Hotel. Even when they try to exaggerate the characters' expressions and poses, it fails because the animators won't break off from the storyboards. It's why Spindlehorse had to work on the final episode because they couldn't outsource to Bento's parties for budget reasons. Cause the animation is more intense and complex in that episode.

I actually liked that it wasn't just off-model, because the characters have their normal form and their full demon form and can range between them depending on their emotional state. That's actually better than the John K. type random off-model bullshit where it isn't even according to some kind of plan, or the even worse Steven Universe bullshit.

So Alastor or Charlie going full demon actually means something, and it's something intrinsic to the character, another prominent example being Stolas's full demon form, which is actually almost Lovecraftian.

And instead, after all this setup, we got what we got. 🤷

....my mom just texted asking if I know about Hazbin. After questioning if we were living in a simulation for about a minute, I replied "yes, why?" Come to find out, my teen sister had asked mom to watch it with her. I instantly told them to "TURN THAT SHIT OFF", gave them the reason why (fake-edgy homo shit) and gave them a few recommendations of actually good adult animation to watch instead (among them being Daria, early Simpsons, Mary and Max, and the Spawn show). Mom and sis ended up watching Mary and Max.

I know this sounds like a "and then everyone clapped!"-tier story.

Angel Dust as a stand-up comedian (?) working out his issues sounds like a much more intriguing concept than a porn star working out his issues.
Gosh, a mafia-turned-comedian would've really had something GOOOOOD to work with than a mafia-turned-pornstar any day. I can imagine him using comedy to cope with his life in hell or the victims and enemies he's killed during his peak in the mafia. His father and brother (Arackniss) would be against it, but if Molly (his sister) was to say, be in hell instead of heaven, she'd definitely support his new career, even if she feels it won't really do much.

That would've been such an interesting way to explore Angel Dust's character and give a bigger justification to him being in the hotel than "victimized sex worker who's like very horny and sexual man" because that's all there is to his character, unfortunately.

Also, found out from a wiki that Angel Dust's father's named "Henroin", possibly being a name related to the word "Heroin". Though, this was back in 2017 as in 2019, Vivziepop didn't want to reveal the supposed name in a livestream (1:53:12 if it doesn't work for you), so it's kind of not sure if Viv wanted Henroin or give him a different name. We don't know. It'll probably be 2026 until we see a glimsp of him if she even bothers to bring him back.

But since we literally do not know anything about Angel Dust's father, I'm calling him Henroin. Sounds fitting for me.

I'll be honest, I still don't really like Vivz's artstyle even all those years back. It still looks like constant, ugly looking curves personafied, but even then it still looks better than what we got in the end. And Alastor's old design is the best he ever was being a charming little dear-lad.

You beat me to this, fuck you jk

Anyway, there's...not much to say about this really. I guess Viv forgot about that "sibling rivalry" between them. But I guess it's nice to have Millie be in the focus for once (even if it won't have any affect to her character in the actual show, and this is only a short). If I really wanted to, I could get really nitpicky, but I don't think it's really worth it to make a long rant.

Speaking of shorts, guess we'll be getting those now with Helluva Boss. Thoughts?

I can smell the Twitter users complaining about this particular scene. It feels like a nitpick, but knowing the community and anything that may be seen as "slightly negative" towards a precious trans person is EVUL, I'm not gonna be surprised if I see such a tweet/quote retweet. Wait, I'm being dumb here. They'd actually gas this scene up.

But wow, was this a surprise. Need to give this a watch before I can give my two cents on it.

Honestly after seeing it, its amazing that a simple 5 minute short gave more depth to a character by having them be an actual person than a fucking tweet chain going "nuh uh my character is deep" ever did. Hell this was actually entertaining, I wonder why, maybe Viv or the other guy who wrote Helluva Boss actually improved as writers and-

The voice actor of the transgender character wrote it.
