Pilot charlie clearly wasn't intended as powerful because it was still meant as a comedy and not some musical melodrama heaven hell war thing. Clearly one of those characters where it's like "kid of important powerful being is just pretty much powerless normie nobody really takes seriously".
Look at Sir Pentious. In the pilot, Alastor's delivery of asking if he knows him makes it ambiguous if he was trolling or genuinely didn't know, and retaliated because Sir P had his cannon charging, ready to harm everyone, and once Alastor landed the final blow, he immediately offers to cook jambalaya, showing that he saw Sir P as a problem that was done and over it. In the series, they hammer in that Alastor doesn't know him, making it abundantly clear he's saying that to fuck with him, we don't see what lead to Alastor attacking him, he laughs maniacally beating him up, and continues to mock him after he's finished.
I've heard Alastor is actually one of the weaker Overlords, and Charlie can kick his ass "behind a Wal-Mart". Aside from his introduction, Charlie was mostly level headed around Alastor. It was mainly Vaggie who was all up on Alastor being dangerous. One of my favorite comedic moments with Angel Dust was how nonchalant he was to Alastor, only asking about him because there was shit else to talk about, not effected by his backstory, versus the series where he asked Mimzy out of intrigue, and was taken back after hearing the backstory.
The only reason Amir was chosen was because he played Bert Healy, Alastor's inspiration, on Broadway, which came out after Ed was casted. I couldn't find any recent Annie plays predating Amir's show which featured Bert Healy, which begs the question on who Viv would've gotten if Hazbin was picked up before 2018. Viv said that she's particularly on how Angel Dust and Alastor sounded, which may play a part on why Ed and Michael are beloved among other reasons, due to their in-character dynamic. They understood Angel and Alastor's characters weren't "sex" and "scary powers", but I guess that doesn't matter now because Broadway actors.
Either that or it just ends up like that one Treehouse of Horror episode where Homer winds up in the real world.
in the show's style:Have to admit, this is a much more interesting and funny dynamic. But lesbian coomers gotta be lesbian coomers I suppose.
God the characters were really so much better in the pilot. Even from just those 8 minutes alone, you get a good establishment on who everyone is. Even Niffty and Husk who barely were in the pilot got more characterization than what they got in the actual show. I forgot that immediately you know Husk is a gambler when he first appears (literally) on screen. Unlike the show which takes till episode 4 for that to be mention. And that's only because Husk is telling Angel a backstory. Take that scene out and you would have no idea Husk had a gambling problem because there is no implications of it anywhere in the show.

Honestly, I'd be fine with the lesbian thing if both Charlie and Vaggie had ANY form of fuckin' chemistry. Seriously, in the pilot those two had more chemistry than in the main series, which is just how do you even pull it off?
As offputting as some elements of this design are it's infinitely more TV based in a way I gotta somewhat appreciate. Guy looks like a knockoff/jojo fan character almost that'd have some sorta TV power. He's got some 80s looking scifi getup, His wristbands are TV remotes, he's got a DVR belt, his entire center torso and legs got that sparkly shit that's supposed to evoke TV static. You can SEE the how and why of how this dude's tied to TV in ways beyond "ah yeah just give him a tv head I guess".
Vaggie's actress has the same problem as Amara's actress in the original Sailor Moon dub. She's trying so hard to sound deep and masculine that she has almost no room in her vocal range to really emote. I don't know why the ADR director didn't let her just speak normally.

It's funny how they have more chemistry with each other when they were written to be friends in the pilot instead of girlfriends in the actual show. Probably because both supported each other and took the other's advice. Pilot Charlie was planning not to sing on air like Pilot Vaggie recommended; she only did that as a last resort attempt because the people weren't listening to her anyway. Show Charlie would never.
Then she had Carmilla use those two lazy examples as her excuse for having known Vaggie was an angel all along.
Even in the pilot she threw down against Katie Killjoy.
I wouldn't care that Charlie and Vaggie are a thing if the show at all put effort into making Vaggie at all interesting, on paper she's got extremely strong potential, with a secret backstory that could be used to cause massive conflict with the entirety of the cast when it's inevitably revealed that would directly lead to multi-episode long arc playing out, but all that potential was completely thrown into the trash and it's instead shown that the only character to remotely give a single damn is Charlie, and it's not even because she killed thousands of her people.
Don't mean to respond to myself but I just realized Vaggie's other arm is missing. It's amazing how I keep finding more and more errors in this show.
