I remember one of the plot threads in Halo that persisted after 343 took over from Bungie, was that they were hunting down Dr. Halsey for her work during the Human-Covenant war, despite the fact that her work with AI and the Spartan program were the only reason that there were any humans even alive to take her to trial. And I never got past Halo 4, so God only knows how they wrapped up that plot thread, but Red vs Blue, the old Rooster Teeth machinima series from way back when, even tackled the same idea (I think before 343 did, but I could be wrong on that).
This is something explored in The Fall of Reach book. It's pretty good military scifi IMHO, I'm sure others in this thread have read it. The ethical question is clear and classic. Dr. Haley abducted, replaced with clones, and abused children to produce the SPARTAN IIs. This experiment was approved by the military, and was originally for the purpose of putting down human insurrections. Ultimately, they were instrumental in ending the Human-Covenant War. The books and the games don't really address these questions strictly in terms of militarism and fascism though.

For RvB, the Director abused an AI (of himself), for military purposes, and to attempt to resurrect his dead wife.

Not sure 'bout y'all, but slogging my way through Super Earth has been fun so far. I've been dreaming of fighting in a truly big city for the past year, and it feels right here. Tight corners, brutal combat, allies -- it all fuck so hard.
I really do like the changes to combat the maps has made. Heaving to deal with the Super Destroyer moving to avoid building, getting the strafing run to line up in alleys for massive kills, setting upa turret kill box at cross roads, its been pretty fun. Kind of wish we could get the other factions in on the action.

I have been loving the matches so far. I will say, my only issue is I have not gone a match without my squad accidentally killing a fuckton of SEAF units.

If I was Arrowhead I would sprinkle in a few megacity planets across the map, so this tile set is in rotation regardless of super earth being invaded.

Assumedly that's exactly what we're going to get, just like how the towns were integrated into every faction and planet after the initial period where they where only illuminate.

The only thing I dislike about the patch is the new mission where you must kill the ships once they land. If you don't clear them out within a minute, another wave comes down and everything goes to shit fast.
Mechs are your friend with this, they can take a hell of a beating and still take out a good number of the ships after they've landed. If you're quick with it too you can usually use two of them in one mission and make it extra easy. Orbital Laser is also a good one to have, as they can take out groups of the ships. Also random tip, unlike the standard landed ships, in this specific mission type you can land on the ships with your hellpod and destroy them instantly.

I had one land on me, which was much less fatal than I assumed it would be. I like the idea, but I don't think those type of mission work as well as the others.

Also, finally unlocked the ammo drum for my Liberator Penetrator, and I am fucking loving it.

Half the matches today have had disconnects, lag, or bugs. Black box disappearing from map, a terminal that 3 out of 4 people can't interact with, the manual hatch on the artillery not showing up, etc. Other divers are reporting similar bugs in chat.
not one lobby shows up and i have to join games through quickplay :)

I've lost count of the number of civilians I've mowed down with my stalwart. Dumbasses run towards active combat where I'm shooting hordes of voteless.
Would be on point if those "dumbasses" are whatever armed citizens around are coming to try and help the nearby SEAF and Helldivers. Like seen in the some of the Zombie & Demons videos like this one.

Imho would've been fitting if a number of civilians running away are armed and doing some semblance of rudimentary armed escort for the groups they're with.

Same here, but that's probably intentional. The "missions" are specific cities on the planet, so it can only show 1 set of missions in the location at a time. I can start a lobby in the city I want, or quickplay instead. Both seem to work fine.

it might be my ISP though since nobody joins my lobby. on the other hand, quickplaying to a lobby of 3 other people talking about killing squiggers has been the most cohesive squad i've joined in a while.

edit: iron sight angled foregrip eruptor is a wild ride
