Here comes Niko, a game about some non-binary kid running away from his parents. - Made to you buy the same guys who made a Hat in Time.

Realized a bit ago that no, this game wouldn't have been in development for just over two years if the twitter account's creation is something to go by, but nearly 3. The archives from 3 years ago show this game already at least having it's current art established so I wouldn't doubt this. Holy fuck, two people and three years yet this is what the result was.

This game ticks all the boxes for a special niche of gamers that's especially deranged, but mostly fragile. Unchallenging platforming? Check. Cartoon graphics? Check. Frogs? Check. Comfy™? Check. Androgynous protagonist? CHECK. It's funny how many people who are really into these things exist. I immediately knew of three people I've had relations with who are going to eat this up.
You had sex with those people? That's pretty gross, dude.

That train phone shit was disgusting. Imagine trying to write the parents in this situation as the bad guys for trying to find their missing son.

"Kids, if your parents don't give you what you want, run away from home! Listen to strangers (on the internet) tell you what's best for you! Don't listen to any licensed professionals like doctors, therapists, and especially your parents." Or, in this case, the specific parent who doesn't want to give you what you want.

The ending scene with the father feels like projection from whoever was the writer of this game.

"Your mom is evil for not enabling you. It's okay though, I'll let you keep living on the run and staying with strangers despite being a child."

this is the kind of audience this game aims for.

I hope this piece of groomer-made garbage flops, but realistically it won't because the twitter crowd will buy 20 copies because it's "cozy" and "wholesome"

Oh and of course there's a official dicksword, because it's not a groomer's paradise without one!

Edit: Ooblets crossover.

In case anyone doesn't remember, Ooblets was the game that had the devs sign a deal with Epic right before and then whine about "the gamers" when their patrons rightfully complained about having the Steam release pulled out from under them. I remember them getting a mention in the Epic Games Store thread somewhere.

Got definitive info on the timeline of the game's development, well as definitive as a they/them bio would publish.

Image is stupidly high resolution, and doesn't actually contain everything because this was before a release date was known for the switch port. But the game is stated to have began development in September 2018, making my guess correct on the game's original pc release. Just 1 month shy of this game having taken 3 years to be released on a single platform.

On the September date in the OP, here's a picture posted by Wakaren (Archive) on September 1st (today as of this post) which confirms the release date in the op/website being for the switch port. I'm no expert but based on the hand alone this looks like a guy. You can see part of their face as well though it's not much to work with. Have not dug through their entire twitter yet to see anything else.

Here's the actual corporate twitter, which is pretty pitifully kept up versus that of the only game these people have made. (Archive)

For some past details other than just social media, this is an interview from 2019 (two years before the actual release) which seems to show they were pretty under way on development. There's at least one whole map complete as appears in game now and the art style appeared finalized. (Archive)

Eclair posts a lot more photos.

These are from a furry con, of course. (Archive) The tweet states that they took two photos but there are three, so I'm betting on the first and last (not included in this post, just stuffed animals) being theirs. So I'm unsure who in the second photo is actually them.

Is Validate finished yet either or do they need an additional 5 years?

The mom is based.

Boku no Niko.

Oh is that what it means primarily? I'm not a native speaker so I thought having relations means something along the lines of a more or less loose friendship
'Having relations' with someone in English nowadays is more of a euphemism for that or (more seriously) that you were involved romantically, I thought you were saying the troons you knew were your exes.

The writers failed when I'm sympathetic towards the mother.
I know that some companies intentionally make their villains charming or appealing to the audience, but they failed in making the mom truly fucking evil, she's justifiably worried about her enby snowflake son who's whoring himself out.
