The F2P shooter model depends on whales buying skins right? If that's the case aren't you shooting yourself in the foot by making all the characters so fucking ugly?

No one's going to drop $20 on a skin for Lilith Gigajaw or hypernose niggerjew.
the secret to printing money in multiplayer games is to make it free to play, but everything but a bona fide demo is locked behind a subscription, which you can buy and sell for in game currency, or real money. the koreans figured this out many moons ago

It's gone up to 24%. Highguard bros are so back. :lit:

Yup. Allowing players to grind to keep playing rather than ponying up cash is vital. Even if the grind takes forever, the kind of players who will never spend that money anyway will still be happy to play your game because they can (eventually) gain access to all of it for free (and speak highly of the game), keeping the world populated for the whales who happily buy everything you can think of to slap into the cash shop.

That and you don't turn the screws on the players right away either, which is something Western devs just can't fucking figure out for some reason. I forget how many hours/missions/bosses you can play in Genshin Impact completely free before hitting a time gate you have to either wait through or pay to skip, but IIRC it's absurdly generous. You can play for hours (maybe even days) without seeing a sales pitch.

Meanwhile these fucking games in the west always spin up their cash shops on better servers (prior to launch, natch) than the damned games and the moment you spin up the client every fucking screen is "SELL SELL SELL!"

I love watching this shit fail over and over again. It never gets old (a good thing, since none of them seem able to learn to quit and try something else).

Ever since LawBreakers (I bought that, by the way), I’ve been fascinated by games that release and instantly bomb. So many studios launch online-only games like this, only for them to immediately die. I always try to play them before they disappear. Does anyone remember Crucible? Gigantic? Bleeding Edge?

There’s such a saturation of online-only games that release to basically no one and then quietly fade away. Dozens of Concords that never even get mocked, because no one cares enough to notice,so irrelevant, so bad. so many hours and dollars wasted, These games aren’t cheap. They take hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions of dollars and thousands of hours of work, just to be completely wasted. There’s something fascinating about watching these failures in real time, the genuine fans coping, the streamers that obviously got paid to promote the game, dev blogs where the developers insist, “We’re committed to generic-fps 300” right before they run out of money a week later.

A lot of these studios are new and have nothing to fall back on, so if the game isn’t a massive success right out of the gate, they just die immediately, all of those people fucked, jobless, some of these developers are industry veterans, people that worked in some of the best games ever made, you’d think they’d have at least some idea of what they’re doing, or some traction to bring players to their game, but apparently not. Not long ago, some former EX-Blizzard employees released PVPVE online only game: Wildgate.
When you put it that way, you can't help but to even wonder. Why couldn't these studios at least put out a couple of games on the market. Like at the very least make a generic fps-corridor-shooter-fantasy-rpg-whatever before trying to even go all in with the multiplayer market. Wouldn't it be much safer to atleast have a couple of IP's under your studios belt as an emergency when things start going under?

Because the investors want the instant smash hit making tons of money from whale and kraken players. This company wasn't formed in a garage and just instantly managed to end up with 100 devs and publishing a game like this in 4 years. Someone with an idea managed to get inventors on board who want a return.

In fact, yes, I did. I thought the Ma'amazon was just a dude, lol. The demon guy didn't strike me as automatically gay, but like with the prior character, maybe I should watch the actual full character trailers before giving my opinions.
I didn't watch those either, he just looks like a VTuber weebsona so I assumed that's what he was.

Just look at what happened with fall guys, people loved it but they took away the ability to grind wins for costumes and the game instantly fell of a fucking cliff.
Even the dumbest of whales aren't going to invest in costumes if a game doesn't at least have the appearance of longevity. Why buy a skin in highguard that might be gone in a few months when I can get what evers new crossovers in fortnite that'll be going for Yeats.

So I know we're meming on the game, and rightfully so. But I think there were a few things the game could have done that would have made it less shit.

  1. Make the shields EVO shields like in Apex, looting shields fucking sucks.
  2. make it a 4v4 or 5v5.
  3. add buildable defenses to the bases, right now there is only wall fortifications, let us spend the shitty mining currency to build turrets or traps or something.
  4. fix the performance.
  5. Add NPC enemies to the map that we can kill for the diamond currency/loot.
  6. Make it so that killing enemy players drops some form of loot.

I actually have a one step list,
1.Use the 6 years they spent making this to make Titanfall 3
