I really hope they copied the save system from the first Ori game. The bench system from Hollow Knight is one of my main complaints with the game. I hate dying and returning half way across the fucking map. Ori did it the right way where that can happen but you have only yourself to blame. I still hate that they removed it from Ori 2.
I don't mind the bench system, but it comes more to execution (bench placement and the shortcuts you can open along the way) than the system itself.
Rule of thumb should be that its good if early roadblocks that could require a few extra attempts gives you a longer runback as it helps you get aquainted with the traversal, while late difficult roadblocks like challenging ambushes/bosses beed to keep the runback to a minimum, with some rare encounters feature virtually nothing between them and the save point and the closer they are, the better.
They seemingly copied the best thing from the Ori games (Bash) so I'm hopeful they copied the save system too.
You want to be able to make your own save points?

HOLY SHIT ITS REAL.

Team Cherry could have released the game at $40 and still made a killing. But got to respect at $20 price point.

I was extremely upset about the date being changed continuously and waiting for what seemed like an eternity, but a 20$ price tag made all that disappear immediately.

I worry that the game cant live up to the expectations people have set for it.
I mean, I think it will; this might be a lightning-in-a-bottle situation where the devs just made a game they wanted, and because they self-publish, didn't have to worry about deadlines. According to Team Cherry, there weren't any setbacks to the game; they didn't announce anything because they didn't need to. The game is now complete, which is why they announced the release date.

I think it will meet expectations. What we've seen already looks really good.

Did they ever actually announce a release date in the Silk Song Trailers before this? I'm not asking to be a dick, I genuinely don't know if they did or not.

We can only hope! perhaps I am just being a pessimist.

I get it, I'm naturally a pessimist too. I think if anything, it'll be a solid 7 or 8 out of 10 at worst. If we're giving the OG Hollow Knight like a 9 or a 10.
Im not planning to play it on launch, So ill be interested to hear what everyone has to say about it. At this point im sure a lot of people will play it that havent played the og.

I'll probably pick it up, I've been enjoying the first game and Hornet seems a lot more fluid than the Knight to pilot.

Just recently played hollow knight? Must be strange finishing that then getting to jump directly on to SS
Yeah, I've had Hollow Knight for a long time. A friend gifted it to me for what I think was my 20th birthday? (I'm thirty now). I've just never gotten around to playing it because other games kept distracting me or catching my eye. Silksong kinda got me interested in finally sitting down and playing through it some more.

I've seen lets plays and lore videos before for it, since I tend to watch a lot of those as I'm going to bed, but even then I still don't remember much of what I've watched gameplay wise XD So I'm still experiencing new shit as I get lost in Hollownest. I'm a little excited to try Silksong day one, since I never got to do that with Hollow Knight.

I feel like they had mentioned a release date for like November of last year I think and there had been several other dates mentioned , then they went silent. That’s all I remember , I stopped following and just waited.

While I'm cautiously optimistic, watching people in YouTube comments glaze Team Cherry for every single decision possible makes me think that Cherry could release a steaming dogshit that bricks your computer and be praised as geniuses.

Devs releasing a game before it's done is something that hurts the art but is a necessary financial descision.
If you are sitting on a pile of money from a past success then there is no reason to rush to release your next work half finished.
I bet an alternative path for silksong was them releasing it in 2020 and releasing patches and fixes and additions until 2026.
