It's more that there are a lot of established warning signs in that case. Dropping the game suddenly, being hands off with review copies, years of media silence and recycled previews. Cases of games going through those and the result being good is very small.
Like Strangolaperti said, Media Silence isn't always a bad thing. Apex Legends was made it silence, announced and released the same day. It was an instant success on launch. The same thing happened with Fall Guys ironically
.
Being hands off with review copies is fine. The entire point of Metroidvania games is to discover shit as you play and I feel like giving people review copies especially Corpo Journalists could be a bad thing, people are going to review it early either way, and some people are going to wait for the reviews before buying.
Media Silence again isn't necessarily a bad thing. It could be a case of the dev team being dedicated to their work. Yes it can also be a case of the devs hating each other and falling apart but we haven't heard anything of the sort from team cherry. Which is not something that happens. You'd have heard about the team falling apart, similar to how 343 did during Halo Infinites development.
And like the guy behind stardew valley said
No news is generally good news, they announced the game was going to finally release this year and they're releasing it.
Its wild to me that you can sit there and already write it off as trash when you haven't seen anyone play it or haven't played it yourself.
Steam gives a 2 hour refund window for a reason. If it's bad I'll get my 20 bucks back.
At the same times, those red flags seems to be false positives too. Media silence and sudden drop were kind of mirrored with oblvion's remake, while the late preview featured the same areas of the first, some did pointed out that it was actually updated and featured new stuff, instead of remaining the same, giving no review copies because journalists do not deserve to play the game first is also a based response.
Oh this may be interesting...
For his video he basically said that he hates boss run backs but Silksong is making him want to git gud.
So there's that
Oh this may be interesting...
So now that I've been able to watch it
He said the game is gorgeous and the gameplay is effectively a much more refined version of Hollow Knight with Hornet having more options at the start that the Knight didn't have. Which is something we knew.
So this is basically Super Metroid to Hollow Knights Metroid.
