Hollow Knight - Dark Souls Metroidvania... with bugs!

So, Hollow Knight... I've been playing this for the last couple of months now. It's a fun game but I'm not gonna lie there are some obnoxious moments with some of the bosses (I'm looking at you, Watcher Knights) and a whole bunch of free DLC has recently came out. I have this on PC but I plan to purchase on Switch. It runs decently for me but I had to adjust some settings beforehand for my PC at least.

I managed to fully upgrade my nail and put the nailsmith out of his misery. I managed to break the last seal, too. I'm thinking for going to the Black Egg temple though I hear there are multiple endings to this game.

The Watcher Knights have exactly three moves:

Roll forward
Bounce
Slash

They might feel a bit chaotic and intimidating the first few times you fight them, but they turn into absolute kittens over time when you get used to the tells they give, just like most of the bosses. You'll truly be pulling some hairs later on the actually hard stuff.

Without going spoilers I will confirm multiple endings simple to say that 1 of them can be missed (per save file). If you go to the Temple now you will get the miss-able one then can continue on afterwards.

Watcher Knights gave me no end of troubles too even though I had already beaten much harder bosses before encountering them.

Quoting myself from the unpopular video game opinion thread.

Hollow Knight is a shit Metroidvania. The fact that it is playable at all is a testament to how strong that genre is. The controls are a tad bit wonky, the map lay out is fucking awful. I shouldn't have to spend 10 minutes of platforming every time I need retry a boss fight, and it's shit game play to give me a sign telling me there is a save point, and it's a fucking boss. I can see Castlevania and Metroids sack hairs on your chin, they figured this shit out long ago, so rip them off better.

Silksong was originally going to be released in June this year, but they retracted that date because development was still ongoing. I think it'll probably arrive before Christmas
I have already accepted Silksong operates on "it's done when it's done (and we like it that way)" time. If it's half as good as Hollow Knight I know I will love it, but I'm 3 game shows past paying attention for any real news about it coming out.

Since if you squint hard enough it could be considered a related topic... Is Blasphemous 2 good to scratch the itch? Ended up passing on 1 when a buddy of mine filed it as "alright, but you aren't missing anything" and I'm wondering if 2 improved things enough to really look into.

Although I agree with your post, how much time will the snag that stopped them from releasing the game in June possibly take up? I guess they are making 8 versions of the game (Windows/Mac/Linux/PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Xbox Series X&S/Switch) and that will inflate the delay further.

Hollow Knight basically killed metroidvanias. When I played Blasphemous I just found it kind of generic and obsolete. Judging from the trailer, the sequel appears similar in that regard.

I don't mean that it killed the genre, just that it set the bar too high for others to reach.

I still don't get why it takes over half a decade to make a sequel that should use the same engine as the first game. It's like even the few good indies released are doomed to shitty sequels
It's in development hell and probably cancelled.
I think it's in the feature creep cycle. Not having a hard date makes them think they have all the time in the world to keep adding stuff. I think they could release it today and it would be a perfectly fine game, the demos we have seen look sick and they have shown they know how to do proper gameplay with Hollow Knight (and this isn't a fucking Starfield scenario when none of the original developers are there). The devs are passionate autists, I do think they just want to make the best thing out there.

What they need is somebody to put a strict date on their head and to make them stop acting they don't have any urgency since they still have piles of Hollow Knight cash all over the place.

They're probably having a hard time developing the game for so many platforms. I wish they could release it early for PC gamers and leave console babies waiting.

I wouldn't go that far. Hollow Knight is gold, but I certainly had my fun with Metroid Dread. Metroidvania is one of those genres I don't need each game to be the second coming of Christ to enjoy.

I do need to leave some time between games though.

That could be the other chaos factor. But Team Cherry being so tight lipped makes it hard to speculate on anything, hence why at this point I just ignore silksong hoping it will be one of those "oh nice, it came out" moments when it finally does.

When Psychonauts 2 was announced, I got a chance to talk to the devs about why the game was delayed and they told me that porting a game is basically making a new version of your game.
Let's all thank Microsoft and Sony for taking the brave leap into next gen when most AAA studios can't seem to adjust of the last 2 previous gens. If you want to make a multi-platform game, you now have two more platforms to be concerned about, because the PS5 and XSX haven't made their predecessors obsolete at all...
