How are you doing? - Kiwi Farms Wellness Check

Oh boy, a lot is going on and all interpersonal and most having to do with work because I have no life:

So...the mentor I had in my first job is dying. He has been for a year. Good life and all that, so no regrets on dying. What's shocking is that his wife went first and rather suddenly. He's entirely immobile, like literally can't leave the house without supervision because he could suddenly drop dead. I can't visit because I've moved away but I email every so often. Any advice on things I can say to him at this point?

What in particular sucks about that is he sent out a beautiful email to everyone as an ode to his 60-year marriage and here I am knowing I'll never get that 60 years with anyone and I'm making it about me and I really suck for doing that, and I don't want to regret not talking to him because I can't get over my own shitty resentment about my life.

I haven't talked to a friend in about a month. She's one of my oldest friends but she snapped at me for no good reason at a time when I've had it up to Shaq's eyeballs of people giving me shit. I'm being petty, I guess, but her fear of COVID is keeping her at home so much that she won't come visit me, several states away. Yeah, I know. But we've been friends a long time. So I always have to come visit her and I feel like I'm being a petty shit about the little thing she got angry with me about. Truth is, her fragility around COVID does cause me to tap-dance around her feelings. I should probably tell her that if she goes out and gets sick, it isn't because she didn't wear a mask, it was because her immune system sucks from hiding from the world.

I got flaked on by a guy at work who kept hinting around trying to get me to go out with him. It wasn't creepy or anything. More like, "hey, you do this thing and I do this thing, so I'll totally go with you to do that thing, and by the way I'm flirting with you." I like the guy well enough. However, I didn't see us going anywhere even before he flaked on me so while I'm not heartbroken, I'm a little disappointed, because he's pretty fun and at least we would have had a good time hanging out. It's been weird radio silence from this guy, and I'm basically going on as usual, because a month ago, this was not even on the radar for either of us (we've known each other for a year). So...it's not a big loss. Just a weird slip in the time-stream, I guess.

I've also promised myself - company or not - that I would get out more in the sunshine this summer. I've been very conscious of my habits that are pushing me towards hermit-dom, and I just need to not do those things.

On one good note, someone whose opinion matters to me approached me a few weeks ago and wanted to make sure I was happy at work and he didn't want me to quit because things were pissing me off. I don't think I've ever gotten that from anyone before I threatened to quit before. I do get more frustrated about things than I need to so he probably thought that I was in fact pissed off enough to quit. There's at least one other person who confirmed to feel the same about me, so it's good to know people care enough to intervene before things get that bad.

I feel like I got thrown into The Truman Show or some similar shit. I get in a bus, bus arrives to downtown, a veneca nigress gets in, gives the typical "o pls gib money i illegal and poor and i no job but i sell dis to feed bb gd bless u" speech, three guys give her money, she leaves the bus. Bus moves a little, stops, the SAME veneca nigress gets in, gives the same "o pls gib money i illegal and poor and i no job but i sell dis to feed bb gd bless u" speech without even changing the wording a bit, same three guys give her money, she leaves the bus again. What the hell?

My nice new 8 hour job has turned out to be more of a 10 hour day instead. 9 and half hours in the sun today, lost 4lbs just in water from this morning. Gonna have to be less of a tired bitch to keep up with my home duties.

My feet hurt.
Keep up with it and make sure you get enough sleep, and you'll do well. maybe invest in high quality shoe inserts or a foot massaging thing

I'm recovering from a really bad flu/cold/COVID or something. Was in miserable pain for a week straight... couldn't do anything.
It's left me a bit of a miserable mess. I feel like I'm completely talentless, even though I'm not... because im too exhausted to do anything.
I almost want to get back on antidepressants (quit that last year successfully) but I know I shouldn't make any hasty decisions because I'm recovering from one of the worst viral sicknesses I've ever had.
Anyway. I feel bad. This sucks. I don't like it.

Well kiwis. I went from being great this weekend, after getting a new friend, to getting some horrible news... three doctors, and two misdiagnoses later... at least I know what is going on with my grandma. I think.

This week I'm going to try to get a CPAP trial through my insurance, or buy a used one outright if it doesn't cover it. Thinking back, I likely had bad sleep apnea ever since covid lockdowns and if I'm immediately better after sleeping with the mask it would explain so much of the past few years.
What were your symptoms? I've often wondered the same myself, as COVID fucked me up hard the first time around.

inconsistent sleep, lower stamina, and difficulty focusing at work. for the longest time I had no idea what was going on and was trying all sorts of medications. but the fact that rolling over sometimes means i can't breathe until my nasal cycle resets and i wake up with my nose full of dry snot that sometimes have small clots in it should've been a bigger clue if i was fully awake. I did get a sleep apnea test before, but at the time I didn't have access to insurance and my partner (who has severe sleep apnea to the point that he stops breathing until a reflexive jerk makes him breath another breath) kinda downplayed it until my doctor on Wednesday reminded me that that yes the results said my apne was severe.

Sounds like you are taking the worst lines of buses.
Can you take the train? I always see the same midget haitian nigger everyday but nothing more.
Or take another bus line. Mine is full enough in peak hours to eject niggers on the pitch.

I’ve always felt that my day is fucked by going to work anyways, so might as well work as many hours as possible in a few days than work a few hours on a bunch of days.

Get yourself a pair of nice shoes. It will cost you, but it will be worth it. Be picky. If the shoe is rubbing anywhere, then don’t take it. If it doesn’t immediately fit, don’t take it. Don’t buy into that bullshit of “it can take a week or two to break in.” Good shoes should be comfortable immediately and any “breaking in” period should be done with a good 10 hour day on your feet.

Since you’re going to spending some decent cash on shoes, get some with useful features, notably non-slip. Waterproof and steel toe may be other features you might want, but trust me on non-slip. It’s handy for pretty much any job. Even my non-work shoes are non-slip.

Buy some cushioned insoles. Your shoes should be comfortable already, some nice insoles will make them even more comfy.

Get some decent socks. I prefer Coppertone. You want socks that are form-fitting. Loose socks will run your feet raw and promote blisters.

If you get blisters, lance and drain them. Retards will say you shouldn’t do that because of infection risk. Unless you’re a filthy fuck that doesn’t wash and you stomp around in literal shit, you will be fine. Walking on blisters sucks. Once that fluid has been drained, you will barely feel it, if at all.
Stay hydrated, obviously. Don’t chug water. Drink a cup or so every hour. If you’re feeling faint and think you might be suffering heat stroke, do not put ice your forehead. Cooling down too rapidly can cause you to pass out.

Big pro tip: take a shirt or rag and get it soaking wet, hang it over your shoulders and across the back of your neck. If using a shirt, you can tuck some of it under a hat so it drapes down the back of your neck.

I have a very nice expensive pair of keens, Im just on my feet a lot more now. I think my aftermarket insoles are worn down, do you have any reccs for a really good pair? I'm very willing to drop money on anything that goes between me and the ground.

I made a mistake at work yesterday which may be illegal and something I could get terminated over. The boss seemed indifferent when I reported it, but I realized afterwards that I left out a crucial detail, so I don't know what the reaction will be if they bother to review it. I've just started hitting my stride there and there is a sizeable medical bill coming in the near future.

I do have a second job and will be OK for a while, but the stress from this is a real 180 from two days ago, when I was thinking seriously about shopping for a home after getting settled in here.

If the boss seemed indifferent then your odds may be a bit better if you clarify the detail right away instead of letting it get forgotten until it catches everyone by surprise. There may be a chance that it'll get forgotten about if it gets missed, but bosses generally look more favorable if you don't hide your mistakes. Though I'm unemployed so my advice should be taken with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the reply. I thought last year I might be in the early stages of sleep apnoea.

Since having COVID and hitting my current body weight of ~250lbs (mostly muscle, but I'm still big) I started snoring and making weird ass sounds every night. Mouth is dry as fuck whenever I wake up, and my chest is usually kinda fucked for an hour or two after waking up.

Based on what I said, you reckon I ought to look into a CPAP?

sounds like it? if you can get one cheap and fully clean it it's worth a shot.

I checked my insurance which will cover up to $1,000 for a cpap, and the clinic that has my results charges $3,000 for a cpap. I ended up buying a used one off facebook marketplace for $150, a cube shaped Fisher&Paykel SleepStyle. right now my partner is sterilizing all the removable bits in a vinegar bath he heats with a sous vide, but it looks like I'm missing parts of the mask assembly that came with it so i'm using my partner's spare mask until I get a new one. came with a nose only mask but I sometimes wake up with a dry mouth so I probably need a full mask anyways.
