He could take a multivitamin a day. Any idiot could do that to get healthier.

Someone else mentioned water. If he drank water instead of pop and drank a big glass of water before he ate anything it would help him. That's another easy thing.

If he insists on going to McD's instead of getting q-sands and fries he could get the grilled chicken and no fries. Grilled chicken is probably the healthiest thing McD's has on its menu, even if it is low quality meat. Maybe once he gets use to eating grilled chicken he could get a George Foreman grill and grill healthy meats and fish on his own, although that's probably beyond his capabilities right now.

He'd also need to fix his biological clock without a girlfriend and actually get enough sleep. Sleep is also a big factor in being in shape.

The list so far is easy, but now he actually needs to do something that requires effort. He badly needs 30-60 minutes of cardio a day. There are a variety of exercise DVDs he could get for a low price, or he could spend some American dolla on an exercise bike on Craigslist. I've been using the exercise bike lately and I'm a slacker, and besides, Chris could play his PS Vita while exercising. Then again, there might be no room in the hoard for a bike. Maybe he could convince Barb to get one if Goodwill has them?

Once he got into cardio he'd have to do some weights three times a week. No, not lifting 50 lb. boxes of lemonade, real dumbbells (and I'm not talking about Chris). It would be lulzy to see Chris try to lift 50 lbs., so he'd probably have to start light, like 10 lbs. or less.

And of course all this is useless, because Chris will never listen to us and never change. But this thread might be useful to others looking to get in shape.

Worse, the serving size is half a package. You get a horrifying 186% of your recommended daily amount of sodium if you eat that sucker.

I imagine Chris has high blood pressure in addition to whatever else he has if he's eating sodium like that.

This may be a challenge but he has to stop eating fast food. I eat oatmeal with fruits nearly every meal and day and I do some exercise to prevent muscle spasms and whatnot. That's nothing to me. So Chris is going to have to change his diet big time and start drinking water instead of Coke from now on. And he might have to do this for a couple years for any dramatic results and he can't break this regiment. I know its tough but that's my suggestion to him.

He could get a warehouse job and have to shape up fast. Although, he won't do it and if you are unfit, it feels like torture at first. (I know this from experience, just a year ago, my lifestyle was not much better than Chris's, because I had a desk job and ate McD's a lot.) Another thing he can do, is get a job like stocking groceries or janitorial, anything that requires some movement, but won't kill you if you are that unfit. However, he won't get any job, so that won't work.

He can also try some fruits and veggies. Just go to the grocery store and pick some out, he might find he loves them. He can sneak a few into his meals and it really tastes good if you get the fresh produce. I became a convert on the healthy eating. If he does it for a while, he will feel less like crap and have more energy.

He doesn't need to do a life overhaul at first, just picking up healthy habits here and there and slowly adding them in. If he tries to do a 180 too fast it won't work.

Yeah, warehouse work will get you in shape. I also know that from personal experience.

Maybe he could get some low sugar fruit juice and low sodium vegetable juice? That would be an easy way to get his fruits and vegetables.

But like I said before, he won't listen to us, or anyone for that matter, so we're just giving tips to each other.

All the diet and exercise suggestions are sound ideas. Personally I'd go for a balanced diet with low carbs (and eliminate all fast food) and start him off with walking more. Just that, walking more. Walking around the block (not sure how big the 14 BC block is, but I live in a city and the blocks are smaller) is a great way to get in shape for beginners, it is relatively low impact and suitable exercise for people recovering from heart surgeries and what not. For someone whose heart I am sure is in pretty poor shape I would have Chris walk and pretty much do nothing else. Jogging might be too much for him, at least in the beginning. I would wait until he lost some weight and his heart was stronger before I started him on weight training or anything more strenuous.

But this is Chris, so none of our suggestions and plans for improving his health will probably ever come to fruition, at least on Chris' own. He just does not have the initiative for this, and Barb's laziness only compounds his issues, even if he actually did try to improve himself Barb would only drag him down because she would still have him go out for q-sands and have him spoon with her afterwards. With such an unhealthy environment, it would be next to impossible for Chris to improve his life even if he did have the slightest bit of initiative. Hell, Barb might even feel threatened if her son announced that he was going on a diet/exercise regimen. The only reason she lost weight was because of her colitis, and I don't think she actually did any exercise, just diet.

If Barb were to pass on, I doubt this would change his lifestyle anyway. He would continue to go to fast food, and sit around on his ass playing vidya all day in peace without her watching.

I'm a picky eater, so I find V8 (original) a great way to get my vegetables. Not everyone likes the flavor though, and for someone who is so used to the flavor of grease, I think Chris would find v8 repulsive. And the fruit v8 has a lot of sugar in it, so even if he were to drink the Frusions, the sugar content would be something to think about.

Always good to change his diet first. The diet after all plays a big role in weight loss before exercise. But diet alone can only do so much.

I think I would get sick from having all that salt. Plus Chris mostly drinks carbonated beverages which have sodium in them. How does Chris function with having about double the amount of salt he is supposed to have a day. He must have high blood pressure and he is only 31.

IIRC, he was put on Lipitor shortly out of high school.

Hydrofitness?? I think people exaggerate how out of shape Chris is. If he just started walking, by himself or with his dogs, for an hour a day he'd be in better shape. Anything physical activity is better than no physical activity.

Lots and lots of these and I mean LOTS!

The fastest and easiest way to get him in shape is to use a shock collar. Believe me, I'm not trying to A-log, but we can all agree that Chris does not have the initiative to institute his own weight-loss/health plan. Like someone else pointed out, he was put on Lipitor shortly after high school. We know his diet and exercise regimen are shit and he sees no reason to change them as that would cause him to leave his comfort zone and acknowledge that he is not taking care of himself and we all know how much he loves his comfort zone.

The collar would shock him every time he reaches for fast food, soda, or Hungry Man. It would also shock him after a period of inactivity (sitting for a hour or so) and require him to walk around for at least five or ten minutes before allowing him to sit back down. Because let's face it, Chris won't do this on his own, unless something drastic happens in his life, like having an heart attack.

My 85 year old grandfather has to use Lipitor but how does a 20 year old have to use Lipitor. I am shocked that he did not change diet after having to go on Lipitor at such a young age.

Lipitor is for cholesterol, not high BP. He may be on it because of crappy genetics, although a crappy diet is also a possibility. I had an instructor who was on a medicine like Lipitor for cholesterol because of family history and she's only 2 years older than Chris.

He could stop shoveling mcdonalds down his throat and start shoveling vegitables down his throat instead.

Would he even recognize that he was having a heart attack? It's been speculated that Chris must feel like crap all the time due to his poor health and no exercise, so I doubt he would realize he was having one. Hell, he'd probably just ignore the pain and chalk it up stress caused by the trolls.

^That's what I was thinking. If he did have a minor heart attack he'd be back on Facebook blaming the DANG DIRTY TROLLS for making him go to the hospital. Then he'd go back to his oblivious life and act as though nothing happened.
