How did you find out Phil in the first place?

I actually remember watching his really early stuff prior to his initial blow up via TIHYDP.

He was playing L4D2, and I remember thinking "This guy sounds kinda annoying, I'll keep watching though."

He also played this one weird game where you rode down on an office chair through the city streets. Don't remember what it was called.

I didn't watch any of his vids for quite a long time after that. One day however, I saw a video called "This is how you DON'T play MGS3".

Curious, I clicked on it, and slowly but surely, I recognized his voice.

And the rest was history.

Retsuprae's Day In The Life of Darksyde video was my first exposure, but I assumed it was some stupid high school kid, then Jim had that one stream with KG in the chat and I've been following the train wreck since, perfect timing since shortly after the copyright strikes happened and shit really hit the fan.

Used to follow the Dark Souls community quite closely, and everyone used to make Phil quotes/jokes from his playthrough but I never understood where they were from. Finally watched the TIHYDP and it all spiralled down from there. Tried watching the man himself but he was so fucking boring. So TIHYDP and detractor videos became a perfect alternative.

When I first discovered Mister Metokur I went through his backlog of videos in late 2015 and I stumbled across his 15 minute roast of DSP and I HAD to do more digging because it was too funny. Then he did some streams about DSP and I was off to the races. Now I can't look away as he continues to plummet to the absolute bottom of the pit of irrelevancy. It's compelling in a really odd way.

I first heard of Phil when he was the featured article on Encyclopedia Dramatica several years ago. (2009/2010) but didn't really keep up with his drama too much.

Jim doing the Sokast is what got me "hooked". I was a loyal listener from that moment on.

Now I can't look away....

Don't wanna miss the crash.

I first heard of DSP through Retsupurae around 2013. I hadn't ever heard of him before then, and I kinda wish I had never heard of him at all. At first it was funny. I thought he was just another shitty gamer like most of the people RP put on their channel. But then I started seeing his non-gameplay stuff where he'd play professional victim using "muh back injury." I have a family member with a herneated disc in the same spot Phil claims to have one, and they are in no way able to dance, much less be on their feet as much as Phil when he was playing those dance games. Plus the rest of his symptoms don't stay consistent and usually are tailored to what he doesn't want to do. So that kinda pissed me off. Because I've lived my whole life with a disability that affected my entire life but I've never played the victim card, begged, or expected anything other than for people to treat me the same as everyone else. I find that sort of victimhood complex disgraceful and insulting. Which is what I felt Phil was doing on top of the fact that his "disability" didn't seem all that real which made it even more insulting. Since I believe you work for everything you have in life and you earn it. Yet some people will fake having disabilities and illnesses just to get free shit because they're lazy and want everything handed to them with no effort. To me that's what Phil represented, and I admit in the beginning I hated him for that. It's hard enough being treated like a normal person in society without people like Phil fucking that up, and whether his back injury is real or fake he makes those of us with actual disabilities that want to be seen as equals and make our way in the world through our own blood, sweat, and tears look bad. Maybe that's why I have absolutely no sympathy for him. Maybe that's why things went the way they did. I feel like if I had never found out who DSP was, or at least if I had just got tired of the joke about him being shit at games things would have been a lot different. I probably would have ended up better off than I did the last few years.

I first heard about Phil from a TheArchfiend's video. Phil made a video on Toby Turner's ad and Archie supported Phil in that video. I remember even back then, most of the comments under Phil's video were from detractors (although they could also come from Toby's fangirls).

I was cruising through Youtube and stumbled upon Mr. Metokur. Since then I watched a bunch of the 'How not to Play'.

"hey bro, i heard you like MGS3, here is something to make you cringe."
And then i watched said link and i was shouting am my laptop. True story.

Retsupurae Day in the Life

Then MGS 2/3

Then I stopped caring til Fred Fuchs podcasts/streams made it easy to follow the drama.

I actually stumbled across him when I was looking for Assassin's Creed/Red Dead Redemption game play. I actually thought his Revelations Multiplayer and his Undead Nightmare videos were pretty funny, until I found out what a shit stain he was. Now I find him funny for a completely different reason.

As far as I can remember, it was when Phil did a playthrough of "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney" (probably one of the least obnoxious ones in the DSP catalogue, all things considered). Actually just checked, and that was back in 2011. Watched some of his videos, here and there. I guess you could have called me a "casual fan". Then the shitstorm happened soon after, and I've been a worthless human ever since then, as Phil would put it.

Usually, people stop watching content creators for a few reasons (sense of humour develops, creator doesn't really play what they want, creator moves on, etc), but Phil holds the distinction of being the only one where I (and I assume many others) stopped watching him as a fan because I realised how much of a cunt he is.

It was on IRC when DSP_ joined the #StreetFighterIV channel, around the time the game was released in 2008. He came into the channel and immediately started being an asshole, demanding ops (channel moderator status) because he is a professional fighting game player. When he didn't get them he started making fun of the ops and the channel as a whole about it not being legitimate.
Someone mentioned his videos on youtube and how he enjoyed them despite him being an asshole and I started watching. I became a detractor after finding the DSPCultLeader videos linked in the comments of his RDR or Fallout New Vegas videos.

This old video got recommended to me...like, about 2010 maybe? I didn't see much more until RP started covering him and the TIHYDP's started blowing up (I think MGS2 was my first...my favourite Phil moment is probably still when he gets seen in first person and pulls out the freaking coolant.)

Youtube recommended the MGS2 video; I thought it was something I watched for a few minutes and then get bored but I stayed for the magnificent train crash.

Aye there, I actually wanted to create a account on this site to answer this question. For me, it was YouTube video called "down the rabbit hole: DarkSydePhil." I'll link it, but it's absolutely amazing how one person could fuck up so many times, scam his fanbase & still have followers. it confounds me.

Here is a link:
