How did you find out Phil in the first place?

I remember a youtuber(Or maybe a youtube commentor.) mentioning DSP on a video. I got really curious and look him up and found a TIHYDP video, I think it was one of the metal gear games. And boy I was both shocked and amazed about how bad this guy is at these games and I never played any metal gear games(Expect Metal Gear 3 on the 3DS).

I was just in a Skype call with a friend. Since I am a big fan of Fallout, my friend sent me a video of DSP playing New Vegas. The amount of time it took him to find a fucking NPC when it literally points to where he needs to go is just baffling. I thought this must just be a shit post channel. He can't possibly be this dumb. It was that day I went down the rabbit hole.

I remember years ago there was a bit of light outrage about a LPer who used donation money from his fans to go on a vacation within his own home city. This was a time when the LP community was still very small, and I honestly hated it because I wanted solutions for the part in game I'd been stuck in for 45 minutes. Not dumb voice overs. So hearing of this guy treating his fans as wallets soured the whole LP scene even more for me.

Time passed, perspective changes with the introduction of more moderately interesting LP personalities, and eventually I joined up here on Kiwi to follow more of Blobson's trainwreck. Saw Phil had a thread, the name ringed a bell, and decided to look into it further to see if it is really as bad as it was reported back then.

It was worse.

Now I have two trainwrecks to watch when I'm bored.

I was watching a speedrun of MGS3 and the recommended video was "This is how you DON'T play MGS3" I then watched him butcher a few more of my childhood games and now I'm just stuck unable to turn away from the trainwreck.

The Youtube Ave. series is when I first found out who Phil was. I thought Phil was some silly character Dasboschitt came up with but ooh boy was I wrong. From the comments, I found a link to TIHYDP: Dark Souls and the rest is history.

Found one of his FF6 videos at one point, went "wtf is this shit" and left. Followed a link from someone else's comment on a Retsupurae video, which led to one of his MGS2 videos, and thought "wait, isn't this that same guy?" Found TIHYDP MGS2 when it was new, and that's where it started.

MisterMetokur did a few Phil videos and commented about his streams. It opened up a whole other rabbit whole of other people making DSP videos that I ended up watching all of.

I tried to give Phil an honest watch about a month ago during Far Cry 5. I asked a question, he answered, called me a shitty gamer for enjoying Hearthstone, and then all his subs ganged up on me saying how Phil "owned" and "rekt" me. So now I'm 100% against him and his cancerous audience.

A real while back. First thing I saw from him was his Prototype 1 let's play. I remember getting the game and being kinda stuck in the final boss (the one with the tentacles coming from the ground). I searched for videos on youtube, convinced I was doing something wrong but didn't know what.

I came across his Prototype run. This was WAY back. I started follow him because he sounded kinda legit, not afraid of speaking his mind. That sentiment slowly turned into frustration against him and his constant complains and annoying lack of skill.
The last drop for me was his infamous Bayonetta 1 let's play, where he gets stuck in the very first proper area (the one in the cemetery) for like 3 videos because he didn't know where to go next.

I actually found his fallout 3 playthrough back round 2009 when looking for Mothership Zeta gameplay; I've been fascinated ever since.

I first heard of him through LowTierGod’s nickname “Black DSP”.
I had no idea he was that infamous in the fighting game community, and I was aware of folks like Justin Wong, Alex Valle, Daigo Umehara, etc.

That Down The Rabbit Hole video was my first exposure to DSP. He seems really boring and I don't understand why so many are fascinated with him.

A friend of mine was a fan and introduced me to his videos in like 2010 or 2011. I cut contact with him because he ended up being delusional as fuck and I couldn't tolerate him any longer. I feel like there's a sort of running theme with the majority of Phil's fans but I can't quite put my finger on what it is.

A long time ago, when Red Dead Redemption was first released, i was looking for some Let's Plays of the game.

I saw a lot of generic Let's Plays, but one catched my eye immediately.

It was made by a guy named "RedDeadDSP" and he was actually recording his TV with his camera.

I was like "wtf he's not using direct capture, i want to see what's the deal with that"

I immediately loved fell in love with his Let's Play. Why? Because he was the worst Red Dead player i had watched so far. He managed to make me laugh like an idiot for failing the first mission, where you do nothing except enter the saloon and ride a horse.

So i found it funny and watched the entire LP, finding it hilarious.

However, i thought that his terrible skill was a parody, not meant to be taken seriously.

After that, i kinda stopped following him because he left the RedDeadDSP channel and started uploading videos on his regular channel, which i didn't even know it existed.

Years later, i had completely forgotten about him. But a video popped in my suggestion tab...
It was called "TIHYDP MGS3"

I watched it... and i was like "omg this dude is godawful"
and then i was like "wait a sec, this voice sounds kinda familiar..."
and finally after a while

"HOLY SHIT I RECOGNIZE THIS GUY! YOU MEAN HE'S ACTUALLY SERIOUS? IT'S NOT A PARODY?! CAN SOMEONE LIKE THIS REALLY EXIST?!"

And the rest is history.

I believe I first heard of dipshitphil from a metokur vid he did on him when he got trolled in that volcano stage in SF4 and/or when he was double perfected in said game. Either that or from the fap debacle.

I didn't really think much of him for quite a while after that and didn't really grasp what the big deal was until after seeing the "Down the Rabbit hole" documentary relatively recently and after that, I became a full fledged detractor.

/v/ roasts him daily with memes and has done so for years. This is the one I see most often, and probably sums up his mentality the best:

The sad/funny part about this is that it's on the mark, just look at how he couldn't figure out the name input screen in Persona 4.

i learned about him from the "down the rabbit hole" vid
and then got to the detractor channels and the rest is recent history :D
i don't think his supposed old """"""goood""""""" vids would have grabbed me anyway
