How do you deal with knowing that everything is finite and ultimately pointless?

I keep grappling with this. I want to explore my potential and be proud of the things I can accomplish, but at the same time I have a "Yeah, but you'll die one day and everything in the universe will become dust again - just fuck around and have fun" nagging in the back of my head. We mock the consoomers and fatties but they indulge in unrestrained hedonism because they know it as well.

Our ancestors? Yeah, they worked their arses off and knew suffering we have the luxury of never experiencing, but who remembers them? They had short miserable lives and now they're in the ground. They can't even enjoy watching their descendents do well. Yeah, you're walking around carrying their genes but you're not a reincarnation of them.

We might not even get to warp to another universe when the sun burns out. We might not even be around by the time that happens - all that history, knowledge and suffering - poof! The universe don't care, time to revert everything back to atoms.

Unless you're religious and believe in an eternal afterlife, of course.

If you let the fact that you will be forgotten in life weigh on you that much, why do anything? Why eat? Why drink? Why live? You'll be forgotten by time and eventually by reality itself. If you truly think this then you should just kill yourself because there is no difference in you dying now or when you are old. You'll be forgotten anyways.

I live life, do things I enjoy, and do things that make me happy with people that make me happy because I know no matter how hard I fuck up, no matter how much of a retard I am, I will be forgotten within a generation, if not less. It's really just down to perspective.

Life is pointless and ultimately will end, why not be a retard and have fun?

>Everything is pointless
Wrong. Have you eve experienced anything in your life that has ever proven this to be true? Everything you have ever done has had a permanent effect on the world, on yourself and on the people around you. The problem most people find with their lives is not that their past acts are meaningless, but that they are far too meaningful and influential, and they can never escape the mistakes they have made, the people they've hurt and the lost opportunities and the wasted time.

>But it will all end one day
Who's to say that it will? Godel's argument for God's existence has been mathematically proven. People need to stop adhering to backwards, unscientific ideas like atheism. You may not be alive forever, but the things you do now will echo throughout eternity.

Here's a favorite poem of mine:
Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.

What worked for me was forcing myself out of my head. It is grimly comfortable to climb inside your own asshole and stay there, but it's bad for us.

Pretend that a frightened, abused little monkey has knocked on your door. There's nobody who can help him but you. What does the monkey need? How do we make the monkey happy?

Whatever you would do for him, do for yourself. Find out what the monkey wants, and give it to him. This exercise keeps me out of my ultimately useless higher brain functions.

Take care of the organism and abandon existential thoughts. This is not as easy, but once you've trained yourself out of the neurosis, it becomes easier, and even pleasant.

In short - return to monke.

i roll through life thinking: we do not know what happens after death for certain. don't get hung up about the possibilities. enjoy life and if its just like before you were born when you die then whatever. you can't stop it.

knowing nothing last forever and has no real meaning to its existence should be freeing. you don't have the pressure of carrying on legacies or anyone remembering the shit you did. you can live for whatever you want, whenever you want, and who the hell cares because every end result is meaningless.

worrying about death is a waste of your life. little kids die everday. if they can die so can you so don't be such a pussy about it

Speak for yourself. I will pray to my glorious savior Dave Chappelle, who will lead the righteous to the heavenly gates of paradise where we will watch over the world, guarding every noble man and woman who misgenders and triggers a tranny. We will eternally guard the gates of hell, filled with troons who rejected the light of lulz and committed the sin of being mad at the internet until they 41% themselves into eternal lullfire.

I accept that everything is finite. Personally, I don't think anything is truly pointless. Even if it is, we can decide what's pointless or not.

If you want a good lesson on points, then here's a good movie to watch:

Good thing that, even at the lowest estimates and as far as we currently understand the universe anyway, it's only predicted to end in a few billion years! I've never been satisfied with a hedonistic or consumeristic answer to this sort of question, I think it's helpful to take a critical look at humanity and whether our relatively unique abilities are valuable. From that, I think that humans do have enough value to justify their existence; they can think and actually act on thoughts, produce and manipulate things that either don't or can't naturally exist in the same way, and can control their impulses as opposed to being bound by mostly instinct.

I think maintaining a state of overcoming the primal self, which actually utilizes humanity's unique traits instead of using them to serve the primal/consumeristic self, and exploring the furthest extents of the things we find valuable, with both of these goals able to be applied on an individual or collective scale, is something worth achieving. At least for me it is. Actively working to become something greater than the consumptive creature that would naturally be comfortable simply appeasing it's basic instincts and desires. Working towards and maintaining that until time runs out is difficult and admirable. And only faggots like infinite time limits.
