What exactly do you like to do? Outside of like, mainstream concerts, dance clubs, and hipster restaurants, I don't feel like I'm missing out a whole lot. The only time I hate living in a rural area is when I need to see a specialist or I want to go shopping in person for clothes.

I used to like just going out and seeing where things take me, random events, occasional meetups, etc. That was a long time ago. I've found the culture has changed a lot in the past decade. I agree that avoiding the city is the ticket, it's just we've lost a lot by having to do this.

There's still a ton to do in rural areas, you just have to know where to look and go make at least one friend that is friends with everyone else. Granted I've been busy a lot this year so I don't do as much. But off the top of my head, there's always festivals going on in local cities, there's mudding (fun af if you've never tried it), bon fire hang outs, local racing, BBQs, etc. There's also hunting, but I can't hurt an animal, so I don't do that. You can also go to shoot ranges and there are a lot non-seedy bars where you can just go in and play pool or do darts. Being able to walk in nature is always a fun thing (except when it's hot AF and the bugs are out). There's also a lot of clubs and stuff out here too. It's not as easy to get into these places as walking into a city venue, sure, but it's still really fun and IMO you make stronger connections.
