War Hundreds of protesters, some carrying guns in the state Capitol, demonstrate against Michigan's emergency measures

Hundreds of Michigan residents protested outside the state Capitol building in Lansing on Thursday, with some pushing inside while the Legislature was debating an extension of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s state of emergency in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Protesters held signs, waved American flags and even carried firearms while some chanted, “Let us in!” and “This is the people’s house, you cannot lock us out,” and others tried to get onto the House floor but were blocked by state police and sergeants-at-arms, according to WDIV-TV, an NBC affiliate in Detroit.

A state police spokesman told NBC News that it is legal in Michigan to carry firearms as long as it is done with lawful intent and the weapon is visible.

The protest, dubbed the "American Patriot Rally," was organized by Michigan United for Liberty to call for the reopening of businesses.

State lawmakers are expected to vote on the 28-day extension of the state of emergency before it expires at midnight.

Whitmer, a Democrat who has faced fierce backlash for her strict stay-at-home mandate, extended that order earlier this month until May 15, but eased some restrictions on public activities as the state's coronavirus cases stabilize. The state, however, still has more than 40,000 cases and is one of the hardest-hit states.

The emergency declaration allows Whitmer to use her emergency powers to use executive orders during a crisis; its extension is separate from the extension of the stay-at-home order.

As the protests moved indoors from the rainy steps of the Capitol, police took the temperatures of those entering the building using a forehead thermometer, according to WOOD-TV, an NBC affiliate in Grand Rapids.

Like the “Operation Gridlock” demonstration on April 15 over Whitmer’s stay-at-home order, many demonstrators appeared to be supporters of President Donald Trump, donning "Make American Great Again" campaign hats, and in one instance, putting on a dance routine by two girls wearing masks that appeared to be Trump and former President Barack Obama.

Republican lawmakers in Michigan, who control both chambers, have signaled that they would like to see the state safely reopen soon and have pushed back against Whitmer’s request for an extension of her emergency declaration.

the guns are great because it makes the politicians and journalists sperg out. It's the tacticool vests and plate carriers they need to lose. They just scream, "I almost joined the army!"

That crowd does kinda reek of:

"I have a distress flare launcher I don't know how to use bolted to my AR-15 so it looks like I have an M203 grenade launcher cuz I don't have the balls to defy the ATF. Also, I keep it in the back window of that retired P71 Crown Vic I bought at auction, and I follow people I don't like all the way home at dusk just to make them shit their pants. "

That being said it's amazing that the protestors are making me side with the people that fucked my home state into the ground. I get the tyrants must be killed shtick, but just don't bring your guns to a protest it never looks good and gets them banned when you need to use them.
Like the dumb hippies with the drum circles during Occupy Wall Street these speds only know how to protest one way.

Imagine if all of the protestors showed up in their work uniforms for the jobs they aren't allowed to do. Unlike the Tea Party protest of yore, which was almost exclusively retirees, these actually seem to be made up with a majority of working age adults so it would likely be pretty impressive. But gotta protest with muh guns and tactical larping gear. Not every liberty argument is a 2nd amendment issue ya fucking idiots. This is a free association cause, leave that shit at home.

Is the idea to congregate in massive groups to demonstrate that keeping this stay-at-home order will prove to be counterproductive and drive up infection rates?

I've said it before but going to protest without a mask isn't stupid it's calling a bluff and they are betting the virus either wont spread or if it does it won't kill anyone. If they are right they've proven their point, you've shut down our state for nothing. If they are wrong it doesn't matter because the lock down seems like it will continue for a couple more months and you're going to run out of savings before you have a chance of getting a new job so getting the plague saves you a bullet.

Also they're kind of pissed that Michigan has one of the highest infection rates even though it has some of the strictest rules.

But it's also one more case in the hospital as they worry about reaching capacity, which can kill more people.

Whole lotta kvetching over a protest with zero injuries, zero arrests, and zero shots fired.
It's always the same faggots too (non-americans that don't understand the concept of "freedom of assembly").

To be honest, I'm no fan of just exposing yourself to a genetically altered coronavirus that we don't fully understand yet. On the other hand, the elite's are gunning for more lock-down time and crashing the economy and keeping the shelves bare so that we are poor, scared, and miserable while they can't give less of a fuck because they're filthy fucking rich. Just like the good olde days in the USSR.

They thought that they could control us before corona? Look at us now! There are people in this country that were already poor and jobless before this shit and now people that considered themselves fairly well off are now lining up for hours for free meals because they just spent their last dime on bread and eggs that will be gone in a weeks time (think bread lines). People are so fucked up from being shut in for 2 months that they are willing to inject bleach into their veins and swallow fish tablets to protect themselves from the 'rona because they can't afford the test and medical bills and they don't want to die, and all anyone ever talks about nowadays is how people are getting infected left and right and are dying in droves. Say what you will about anti-vaxxors, but if the elites can do this to a virus that has a 3% death rate (and that's including the fact that they count those that die due to underlying health conditions at the same time as corona as a "death"), then they are going to pull some crazy shit with this vaccine and people are going to eat it up. They are already demanding that Koreans put all their personal info into an app that tracks their every move, they already have people chipped in Scandinavia and other places, the person looking into this vaccine the most and put in the most funding is Bill Gates, who is asking for a National Tracking System, and this is all ran by the World Health Organization who initialy lied about the effectiveness of masks and stated that the flu killed more people than the virus and that we shouldn't be too worried, and they have a history about lying about shit and is now taking money from China, the place where this shit all started. Oh, and they want to teach all kids ages 0-4 how to masturbate and tell if they're transgender or not. Because they're smarter than you.

This is why people are protesting and if it was good enough for black lives matter, feminists, and climate truthers, then it should be more than A-OK for these people. Black hat please.

Michigan has 13,358 occupied hospital beds (of 23,953) and 2,328 ventilators available (of 3,675).
They aren't anywhere close to running out of hospital capacity and daily new cases have leveled off and trended downward in the last few weeks. There is clearly some loosening that can be done without breaking things and causing excessive deaths.

If they were black they'd have been shot by now.
I call bullshit on that. Nothing scares the white person more than an armed black man as the Black Regiments during the civil war, the Harlem Hell fighters during World War 1 and the Black Panthers in California during the 1960s when they open carried guns into California State buildings.

Majority of gun control laws were passed to disarm them but then politicans realized, since how easy it is to fuck with an unarmed population and control, lets disarm everyone.

Michigan shut down too late to overcome its population density and deep community spread.

....... ah yes Michigan a state overpopulated with such overcrowded cities like, Detroit, and Detroit, and Detroit, oh and how can I forget Detroit. I'm not saying Michigan is like the sticks but the largest city is famous for the sheer number of abandoned buildings it has. Population density is not a word that people in Michigan understand because there is an entire fucking peninsula that is effectively wild lands.

But it's also one more case in the hospital as they worry about reaching capacity, which can kill more people.

Even ignoring that the hospital are nowhere near capacity and are activley laying people off

At some point it's death by rona or death by starvation, this is beting neither but accepting the former.

Detroit is dense and is heavily afflicted. The rest of Michigan, by and large, is neither.
The tri-county area around Detroit has 39% of our population, but 71% of our cases and 81% of our deaths. Detroit proper has 7% of our population, 22% of cases and 27% of deaths.

Detroit City (pop. 673,000; 143 sq mi.; density: 4,708/sq. mi.; 1818/sq km) 9,057 cases, 1,035 deaths.
Detroit Tri-Counties (pop. 3,860,000; 2151 sq mi.; density: 1,796/sq. mi.; 694/sq km) 29,509 cases, 3,081 deaths.
The Rest of Michigan (pop. 6,120,000; 94,565 sq mi.; density: 65/sq. mi.; 25/sq km) 11,870 cases, 708 deaths (and over a quarter of those deaths are in our only other county with a triple-digit death count: Genesee, home of lead-in-the-water Flint.)
