How self absorbed do you have to write somethig like this? How could anyone who isn't a piece of shit find this character likable?

The writing is so self unaware its pissing me off more than anything.

This could've worked if the game was intended to be set in a mean, crass setting. Unlikable, morose, selfish characters can become ironically charming if they're well-written, but the authors are so narcissistic they never saw their creations as unlikable to begin with.
Take Thrill Kill for example; a game set in a grim universe full of psychopaths and nihilism. Every character is morally detestable yet they have their fans in the game's cult following because the writing, while simple, wasn't full of "this BIPOC is just the heckin' awesomest person ever!" You never say a character is cool or likable, you show it.
But these tumblrites have nothing to show, so they can only tell you it's true and honest the bestest ever...

TF2's Demoman shits mountains on these niggers despite having a backstory more vague that these turds of the last 10 years.

Hyenas tried to pander to people that don't exist while trying to simultaneously get the attention of the Payday fanbase. Yeah, Payday 3 had a really rocky launch that's admittedly getting better thanks to supposedly faulty server providers (lol), which is funny I bring that up because Payday manages to actually take itself rather lightly while trying to be a "heist game" because it was literally a huge homage to heist movies and events in history with their own twist and characters.

The other competition is Rockay City (aka, the ultimate omega cope from 505 Games after losing the Payday license) which, oh my God, yet again trying to do pandering for this crowd that REALLY loves the 80s. Why is this the theme here? Why is it always games that try to get this feel that no one wants?

In the end somehow Payday still manages to have no competition since Rockay City bombed, Hyenas is cancelled, and realistically, no one else makes heisting games. Except for this studio named Ten Chambers, who happen to have two of main people behind Payday as a franchise.

EDIT: Wait a minute what do you mean this was actually a fucking hero shooter? I thought you guys were mistaking it as one because of the character select screen. That's how bad this game was gonna be that I didn't even fucking know what it was going to be?!

Nah, the SMT one was more of a stylistic choice since all male characters in SMT series always look twinky like that. Something about eastern esoteric bs and all that

But I played the alpha and the subsequent betas. I think I only missed one.

The game had potential. The character design was ass, I will admit. The only likable character was The Pro and he was a fuckin Payday reference. Besides him, every character's name escapes me even now and none of them had unique archetypes that would make you remember them by name. I mostly remembered them by power.

Black girl had foam.

Troon had bioshock hold bullets in air power. etc.

Twink Asian had a healing drone/attack drone

And funny canadian roadie man had roombas that spat out fire.

I am kinda bummed that it's outright cancelled because from my experience, Zero G fire fights were fun. Sometimes really clunky I'll admit, but it was fun.

In the end I'll look back on this game with the same feelings I had for Battleborn and Lawbreakers.

The problem is they didn't go all in. They just should have called it "Troon Shooter: One Troon to Rule Them All". Make it gory as possible without the heroshooter shit, just hardcore multiplayer Postal type violence with a last troon standing gameplay. You could pick a classic troon, or design your own troon. You get powerups via a dilation station, and you have to chug bottles of troonshine for health.

That is the problem with corporates, they're not a creative like me, they're afraid to take risks.

Shame it kind of just got cancelled, would have loved a big post launch laughing stock party like we've had with Lawbreakers and Battleborn.

I could have sworn that it was supposed to be an Urkel like character in space and that was the funny, but apparently even that was expecting too much and it was supposed to be some rejected nu-Saints Row Donut Steel

People talk about troon this, woke that, but the real, biggest source of cancer from this project is that it was a "live service" game. GTA and Fortnite kickstarted this horrible fucking trend and I hope this spells the end of it.

When I buy a game, I wanna sit down, have my phone with it, come back to it at my leisure. I don't want an always-online clusterfuck that I constantly have to check in with for new content, putting up with cancerous monetization and gatcha mechanics to further fund more bullshit addons. Sure, it's tolerable for multiplayer games like TF2 and Fortnite and shit, but it's spread like a virus because it made so much money, and now shit like the fucking Avengers game is a "live service" and other games that simply don't work well with the format.

Like there has to be a fucking point where we draw the line and shit like this looks to be it.

This is because very insecure AWFL's don't like seeing beautiful women in their entertainment. They get very insecure and jealous. Most normal and sane women on the other hand want, and I mean WANT, beautiful female characters in their entertainment. Unfortunately the industry is full of insecure AWFL's. However, given that CA and others in the industry are now gutting these hags from dev teams this maybe a sign of things to come. Listening to these women and BlackRock have cost the entertainment industry billions. Given how the economy is going, and the fact that Biden is unpopular and all of the Republican nominees say that on day one they will gut ESG if they are president, they can no longer afford to hire these women and allow them to influence entertainment. In the end greed always wins.

You know the best part? All the assets are already complete, the gameplay is set. Think of the money and work hours put into this...
And nothing will ever come of it. What a colossal waste. At least Lawbreakers/Battleborn got some money and there is gameplay videos of them, I doubt there is much beta footage of Hyenas.
And for everything that makes Lawbreakers worthy of shitting on, at least that game had interesting arenas to play on, the kind I wouldn't mind seeing recycled for another game. If somebody still has files for that game sitting on their HDD somewhere, then that is still theoretically possible, the only thing Hyenas ever gave us is the "Join the ACK!" meme, which I very much want to believe is what actually killed it.
