Even more remarkable is the fact that it was never meant to be as big as it became. The Orange Box wasn't much more than a stocking stuffer with Portal and that Half-Life not-a-sequel. The hats and whatnot didn't come around until it went F2P around 2010.

Indie games are where the faggotry began to begin with a decade or more ago. A lot of these woke devs that you see nowadays got their starts making shitty indie games, and of course lets not forget Depression Quest and Revolution 60.

its not hard to imagine people who are interested by something like Tarkov but can't play because of the skill ceiling. Valorant did exactly that to CS and its successful.

its objectively worse than CS in every way and will never have the staying power, but it is a perfectly successful AAA game

Why would they make an Overwatch clone? If you make a derivative game, you better copy a successful game.

From what I've heard watching videos of folks talking about the closed Beta, the game is incredibly cringe. Like all about, "down with capitalism," while having microtransactions unironically.
 
It would have been less embarrassing to call it a "Team Fortress 2 killer", at least then they'd be riding the coattails of a game that's still alive.

I didn't get to play the beta but I was willing to give the game a chance when it came out, but since that's no longer happening then I guess I'll have to stick to shitting on Overwatch instead.
