As someone who identified as a Brony for a long time I sometimes can't help but wonder just what the fuck happened to that fanbase. I remember back in 2011 it wast just that cute, optimistic cartoon that made people happy and I thought it was just what the world needed more of. But now I look at these Tulpas and Hypno ponies and all the creepy sexualised fanart and i wonder how we got here. It's depressing, really.

My opinion? You became too well known and drew in some really fucked up people. In a sense, you became the new Sonic fanbase.

Say what you will about First Wave bronies, yeah they were far far to evangelical for their own good, and got really pissy when people got mad over said evangelizing, but they weren't trying to hypnotize themselves to become ponies.

I'm starting to reach to the conclusion that the MLP fanbase has even worse individuals than the Sonic fanbase, and that group is already full of lolcows.

I think what it is is that Sonic is more inclined towards stupid (See - Every Sonic OC ever.) Really really stupid.

MLP is inclined towards crazy. (See - Jin, this.) Really really crazy.

You know what is really sad to me, about all this? Like, if we pull back the crazy and just look at the core of it?

The fact that they are hypnotizing themselves to be more like (Or outright be, I'm not really clear on that bit) characters from a children's cartoon.

Thats what they are gunning for. Yeah, it's new age psuedo science, but.... God Damn.

To me it's like the whole "I like MLP because of the lessons it teaches me."

Really? You need someone to teach you this stuff? As an adult/teen?

It's that sorta thing.

It'd still be weird and psuedo-scientific if they were gunning for significant historical cultural characters, but I'd judge someone less for trying to hypnotize themselves to be more like... Fuck, I don't know.... Someone real with real achievements and admirable qualities.

But nope. They want to be more like (or outright be) Rarity or Twilight Sparkle.

That's their goal in life. That's their role model.

I believe L. Ron Hubbard is the narrator.

Really? Well, I was thinking of giving it a listen before, but now I just have to hear it. Does it come with his rambling story-telling and weird on and off accents?

Oh my goodness what a great website.

I just cannot stop laughing... this is so ridiculous I can't believe it's real.

It's so hard to pick a favorite... every single page is a gem of resplendent insanity.

It just keeps getting funnier too. I mean look at this:

http://hypnoponies.net/index.php?/topic/3675-my-changeling-life-days-1-4/

Poster 1 claims to have transformed to have horse hooves for two minutes.

Poster 2 is jealous! XD

I just... I could not conceive of this before I ever saw it.

Oh my sides ache, this is so perfectly absurd it's just wonderful, I don't know if I pity these people or love them for making me laugh so damn hard.

Today was a great day thanks to Hypno Ponies.

I listened to one of these just now. How did someone manage to record the narrative without laughing?

I really didn't think it could get any more weird than the tulpa stuff, I guess I was wrong.

Perhaps the narrator takes it seriously, especially if said narrator believes that in this hypnotism can make one think they are a fictional character.

You know, what I think is that the first wave of Bronies had a certain sense of self awareness. Sure, it was a smarmy, hipstery kind of self awareness that amounted to "I'm an adult and I watch a cartoon about magical ponies, look at how crazy and unconventional I am!" but at least they knew that they were weird on some level. The problems really started when too many of them tried to turn it into some social movement. That, together with the whole "Love and tolerate" phrase that they used as a dogma probably made the subculture look like a shelter for all kinds of loonies that weren't accepted anywhere else.

But we made a point of not being judgemental and here we are. Hard to believe that there was a point when "I watch it for the plot" was the raunchiest thing associated with the fanbase.

It's a forum where people actually try to reprogram their brains through hypnosis and subliminal messages to be more like their favorite MLP characters. It's one thing to see a character as a role model, but to alter your own mind is another (some claim they can feel their "hooves"). While they warn people ahead of time, it's still crazy shit. (Since the place is moving, I have yet to find the files.)

Granted the development journals can range from lolcow to sad to creepy.

Anyone try to hypnotize themselves into Derpy?

I think that's what happened anyway.

what plot? it's a 20 minute toy commercial for little girls

If I remember rightly, I believe 'plot' is their term for pony arse.

That's a reference to a viral image that war fairly well known back in, like, 2011. You know, a collection of screencaps with the ponies asses on them and the text on the bottom saying "I swear, I watch it for the plot!" or something to that effect. Back then it was of course supposed to be a joke.

From what I hear, even the furries don't like them and thanks to MLP a number of the nuttier furries have jumped ship.

Don't know about that. Wouldn't surprise me, I guess. But I'd assume that that was only after it has turned out that Brony "culture" tolerates thinly veiled zoophilia. I've heard that Furries have recently become somewhat aware of their public image and try to improve it but that's just something that I've heard. I don't know a lot about Furries, to be honest. I like some the art that's not porn. Which probably means that I actually like very little of the art.

do not forget that they are ponies which are child horses, so not only is it zoophilia, but also pedophilia

Gave the spa one a listen. It was... Interesting. Dropped out when the guy was going on about the "cute ponies" running towards me. Something about the way he said it just creeped me out. Oh, which one had L Ron as the narrator? I want to hear that shit.

A 20 minute toy commerical that lead to much bawwing when some of the fans didn't like what they see. Now some of said fans can hypnotize themselves into being a character they like from the show.
Fitting, when we consider the fact that the phenomenon really began with an sjw bawwing about how the show wasn't sjw-y enough. You know, I always wonder, did the author of that article keep an eye on it? Do they realize what their screed created? Do they feel regret?

I'm not really that involved with furries these days, but a few of my friends are, so I vaguely know what's going on there. Furry fandom has been "cleaning up" stuff for quite a while now, and definitely long before the MLPFiM came to be. I guess they got the headstart considering people ave been actively making fun of furries for, I dunno, past 15 years. These days, the crazier folks definitely get laughed at inside the community too. And yep, bronies (especially ones in the deep end) get laughed at. All. The. Time.

It was the spa one. I thought his voice had the same creepy quality as Elron.
