As someone who identified as a Brony for a long time I sometimes can't help but wonder just what the fuck happened to that fanbase. I remember back in 2011 it wast just that cute, optimistic cartoon that made people happy and I thought it was just what the world needed more of. But now I look at these Tulpas and Hypno ponies and all the creepy sexualised fanart and i wonder how we got here. It's depressing, really.
My opinion? You became too well known and drew in some really fucked up people. In a sense, you became the new Sonic fanbase.
Say what you will about First Wave bronies, yeah they were far far to evangelical for their own good, and got really pissy when people got mad over said evangelizing, but they weren't trying to hypnotize themselves to become ponies.
I'm starting to reach to the conclusion that the MLP fanbase has even worse individuals than the Sonic fanbase, and that group is already full of lolcows.
I think what it is is that Sonic is more inclined towards stupid (See - Every Sonic OC ever.) Really really stupid.
MLP is inclined towards crazy. (See - Jin, this.) Really really crazy.
You know what is really sad to me, about all this? Like, if we pull back the crazy and just look at the core of it?
The fact that they are hypnotizing themselves to be more like (Or outright be, I'm not really clear on that bit) characters from a children's cartoon.
Thats what they are gunning for. Yeah, it's new age psuedo science, but.... God Damn.
To me it's like the whole "I like MLP because of the lessons it teaches me."
Really? You need someone to teach you this stuff? As an adult/teen?
It's that sorta thing.
It'd still be weird and psuedo-scientific if they were gunning for significant historical cultural characters, but I'd judge someone less for trying to hypnotize themselves to be more like... Fuck, I don't know.... Someone real with real achievements and admirable qualities.
But nope. They want to be more like (or outright be) Rarity or Twilight Sparkle.
That's their goal in life. That's their role model.
I believe L. Ron Hubbard is the narrator.
Really? Well, I was thinking of giving it a listen before, but now I just have to hear it. Does it come with his rambling story-telling and weird on and off accents?
