I just wanted to take a moment to point out how batshit insane it is that ED, a website solely about posting satirical, yet defamatory, spiels about Internet famous individuals can go for 15 years without any major problems, outside of Sysop sperging and selling out. 90% of ED is bullshit, and it leaves people with very little accurate knowledge about who they just read up on.
While Kiwi Farms, which has a strict deliberative process that maintains an extremely high level of truthfulness in it's threads, which isn't defamatory and pedantic, but accurate and protected under the constitution where it's hosted, has to run the gauntlet every year of a different menagerie of malefactors in order to survive and keep it's doors open.
Guess the truth hurts huh.

Null has said was that what makes people so angry with the Farms is that our information is accurate. If we were Encyclopaedia Dramatica But In New Zealand, nobody would care as much, because it would be complete nonsense. It's the fact that we dig up accurate information- including information the cows want buried- and publicize it that drives them up the wall. Chris-Chan had the perfect description for that feeling: he called it the "hurtful truth level," the point when you've said too many painful truths and not enough flattery. It doesn't help that many cows have an unwarranted high opinion of themselves.

So, I really don't understand the tech behind all of the browsers and stuff. The certificate is no longer revoked, but I still can't access from the "regular" internet? I've had a bookmarked link to the home page on my phone for ~2 years and that's how I've always gotten here. Now it doesn't work, so I'm on Tor now, Yada Yada. But I still can't access it from the regular net? Even tho the certificate is OK? An explanation is appreciated, I'm really not literate in tech and this is confusing for me

(Tor is fine btw)

Vanwatech shut down all their services so we're off the clearnet until Josh finds a replacement. I don't think the reasons for this have been made public yet except that it's probably something Liz-Fong Jones did. Harica suspending the SSL certificate or not has nothing to do with this, it's a completely separate issue.

The certificate allows browsers to connect to kiwifarmsaaf4t2h7gc3dfc5ojhmqruw2nit3uejrpiagrxeuxiyxcyd.onion via Tor using HTTPS. Without the certificate, only HTTP would be supported. HTTPS isn't necessary for an onion site, but the forum doesn't like being HTTP-only, and people were occasionally getting redirected to HTTPS which wouldn't work. Also there's a Brave bug that makes it think onion sites are insecure if they're using HTTP instead of HTTPS, which caused the bot check to not work unless it's manually told to "run unsafe scripts" (every time).

The kiwifarms.net domain has been down for other reasons. It also has an HTTPS certificate, but that's unrelated (and there are far more trusted certificate authorities that will issue HTTPS certificates for a .net site than there are for a .onion site - only two in fact will issue certificates for .onion sites).

That only affects Tor -> Clearnet gateways.
.onion is end2end encrypted. The glowies can theoretically operate the whole Tor network and all they would get would be the real IP addresses.
 
In theory I think a self-signed certificate for an onion site should be entirely secure anyway, assuming you got the correct onion address. The onion address itself is a public key, so if you access that URL, only the true onion site could ask you to accept the certificate. There's no risk of man-in-the-middle like there is on clearnet (standard IP with DNS).

But in practice, browsers wouldn't treat it as secure, so it'd be a pain in the ass for users.

On clearnet, if you tried to connect to microsoft.com and got a SSL error, it'd be most likely that somehow your browser was tricked into connecting to a server that's not really microsoft.com, but an imposter. As I understand it, that couldn't happen with an onion address... to even be able to send a response, the server would have to have the onion site's private key.

Okay, I understand dude. I like the farms as much as most people here do. I just dont want it to go away permanently. Im just worried Null's tactics may not be enough for the troon hordes descending upon us endlessly.
