tl;dr: ICANN and Verisign changed the rules for .COM years ago to make it so that "any government" can have a domain name seized. They intend to replicate those changes to Verisign, which will make all .NET domains accountable to shitty, speech-hostile foreign nations like New Zealand and Germany (shithole countries).

What domains are a backup?

  • .US is owned by GoDaddy and therefore is shit.
  • .RU, .SU, and any other Russia TLD is out of the question because of the intense and absurd level of speculative attention it brought last time.

Discuss.

.SOL
I'd try some country code TLDs that dont care, same as using ru and su.
Surely other places are similar.

Alternatively you could look into registries under:
GRS Domains,
Infibeam Avenues Limited,
xyz.com LLC,
Fegistry, LLC

In 2018, Spamhaus rated .men as the worst top-level domain in terms of spam and scamming. .men comes top with 60.6% of its 73,000 domains identified as "bad", resulting in a badness index of 6.48. The company that runs .men, GRS Domains also runs the third worst registry - .loan – with 59 per cent bad domains and a 6.22 index.
GRS Domains is a domain registry service provider based in Gibraltar. GRS Domains supports the gTLDs founded and majority owned by venture capitalist Iain Roache.
GRS Domains operates the following sixteen gTLDs:
  • .accountant
  • .bid
  • .cricket
  • .date
  • .download
  • .faith
  • .loan
  • .men
  • .party
  • .racing
  • .review
  • .science
  • .stream
  • .trade
  • .webcam
  • .win
I found this information on accident. kiwifarms.party here we come.

EDIT: Actually its backend is registered by GoDaddy so that probably wouldn't work. Do you prefer a country code TLD or something else?

Guess I'll have to make an account if I want to leave public feedback on their site. Bleh. Sometimes it's necessary.

A very old article reports that DirectNIC are reliable for registrar services, but that might be completely out of date now. They offer a few gTLDs anyway.

Who does Wikileaks use? I know they've been deplatformed by domain registrars several times throughout the years.

I know this is most likely a retarded question but how difficult would it be to create a .kiwi domain? Im assuming it would require huge capital
Close to fucking impossible on purpose.
The process itself may be relatively straightforward. ICANN will make applications available (get the May 2011 draft of the Applicant Guidebook) from January 12, 2012 through April 12, 2012, giving companies time to develop a marketing plan and come up with justification to pay the $185,000 application fee and, if approved, the annual $25,000 fee.

In other news, ICANN, Verisign, and other companies that hold authority over gTLDs are big gay. I understand that peer-to-peer DNS introduces some trust issues, but if the alternative is to let pozzed companies control the phone book of the internet, then maybe it wasn't such a bad idea after all. There could be some form of trust involved, cryptographically signed and validated records like you would have with DNSSEC to ensure validity. But what do I know, I'm just some retard on the internet.

I'd second .org, since they still hold onto WL.

I'll suggest .eco, .bio, .club, .dog, .farm, .fun, .gold, .info, .lol, .press, .wtf, .xyz or .agr/.agro for a giggle.

Too bad that the NZ and CA governments are pozzed, a nz or kiwi tld would be fun.

It already exists (and required over 1M to be created, according to rumors), and its registry is in Canuckistan.

"There is no censorship or control people. You just need to jump through arbitrary hoops we have set up to be as opaque and bureaucratic as possible before you can ever disengage from the system!"

They really wanna kill the internet. The elites are desperate about it, realizing the damage it has done to their power they want it gone.

I wonder if we will see this lead to a real boom in Dark Web activity and make TOR and the like go more mainstream. I have seen people push for some Tor alternatives to also expand the market like Lokinet but that stuff doesn't seem to get off the ground. I am worried we might see people actually have to turn into direct connections to servers to keep their shit free due to corpo and globo faggotry making it impossible to run a site that isn't pozzed to hell and back. A rebirth of BBS in a way.

Things are really getting bad out there. The lights are going out, we may not live to see them light again.

In addition to torrent sites, there's also the weeb piracy sites like MangaDex (.org), SubsPlease (.org), and the GoGoAnime and KissAnime/Drama/Asian clones (too many TLD variations)

Some notable NSFW weeb piracy sites also use .org and .to
