ICANN, Verisign, and the .NET Crisis

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
So is the .net domain finally kill, or what? It’s been failing to resolve consistently for me, which is odd considering I use VPN to connect. For what it’s worth, I independently resolved the domain and tried to ping the IP to see if it would respond, but I can imagine that is not a reliable way to check if the server is alive due to the constant DDoSing lol

Wired (archive): Elizabeth Warren Calls for Crackdown on Internet ‘Monopoly’ You’ve Never Heard Of (US senator Elizabeth Warren and congressman Jerry Nadler have demanded the government investigate whether VeriSign, steward of the .com domain, is ripping off customers and violating antitrust laws.)
Warren's press release regarding the letter (archive; text of letter is attached)
Verisign is the owner of .COM, .NET, and .TV. It is one of the oldest NICs and understands its importance in the web of trust that builds the Internet. Verisign is an American company and responds to US court orders, making it bad for piracy, but good for speech.
