Are the remakes that bad? The Switch version of RE2's remake is cloud only anyway. I will own everything and be happy.
They're great if want to play the originals in a different style. I won't knock them on that.
Which is the problem. They weren't marketed as something different, they were marketed as remakes, not re-tellnings of the stories; which pisses off die-hards like myself who have no problem with them retelling the stories differently. It just makes all discourse about the games fucking impossible with the new generation of players.
Imagine talking to someone who never played RE1/2/3 but they did play Darkside Chronicles and Umbrella Chronicles.
Ada being cockblocked by Sherry is the funniest fucking thing in the franchise and those two games actually make Leon into a well rounded character and his relationship with Claire becomes truly organic because they don't split up in Darkside. The story still ends the same way, but how they got there is totally different and very charming. Those annoying "puzzles" that hindered the fuck out of you? Sherry, Ada, Claire and Leon working as a team make them into complete jokes.
ANYWAY, let me reel in my rambling.
See, new players only know, the new , changed storyline.
The events leading to those events have drastically changed. Hell. Operation Racoon City still fits in better with the Real Timeline better than RE2 /RE3 Remake and it's only has one deviation that can't possibly happen ; ie Killing Leon, the rest of the game is still possible. Ironically, the game does fill in a lot of plot holes ie How the fuck did Sherry survive the sewer ( in the original RE2, she barely survived it . In Remake, she doesn't go in the sewer to get mauled by roaches and dogs, in ORC, she encouters ECHO team who bodyguard her until she wanders off again)
Please. Forgive me for being nerd.
As the local Resident Evil 5 defender, I want to add a few things.
First and formost, the original racism accusations were based on one of the early trailers, and it was just "white man shoots black zombies reee!". All the stuff about Sheva and the tribal zombies came after the games release as a post hoc justification.
The AI of Sheva wasn't that bad. I never had the "runs at you wasting healing items" problem, and found giving her healing items was one of the best uses for the AI. She's also unstoppable with certain weapons like SMGs. I've not seen it in this thread, but I'd often hear people complain that she uses a handgun vs bosses. I ask "did you set her AI to aggressive?" and everyone would always answer "no".
Where it's genuinely flawed is specific co-op scenes. Like how she keeps picking up land mines during the bat boss, and won't flank certain bosses that are weak from behind.
On the dumb scenes (boulder punching, "total global saturation!" etc) none of that really bothered me, and people don't have a problem with the far more goofy stuff in RE4 like the midget dressed as Napolion and cultists with flame spitting dragon statues they ride around a lava temple. What's funny to me is that RE6 is way worse with the stupid, but it never gets brought up because RE6 is the game people accuse RE5 of being.
What I don't get is that these are people who should know better. People who grew up with Jack Thompson and "video games will turn people into killers".
>Don't equip your AI partner
>Don't upgrade your AI partner's weapons.
> Don't upgrade your AI partner's Armor.
>Cry when AI partner tries to YOLO the cockroach enemy with a handgun.
A lot of RE5 and RE6 haters were fucking retards who didn't take the require 5 minutes to learn how to play each respective game.
The only thing wrong with Resident Evil 5 was the DLC. Some of that stuff should have been base game.
