IGN: The Resident Evil Game That Can't Be Remade

Probably. Which just blows my mind because... well maybe my opinion is too narrow. I see two reasons to maybe make a remake:

  1. The game looks visually bad and/or the UI is outdated to the point where gameplay is bogged down and a few simple modernizations would solve the issues.
  2. The game is old.
And it is important to say that the gulf between one and two in that list is huge, miles and miles; furthermore, I give number one a sideways glance as well, but I can deal with it and don't want to be a complete ballbuster.

So you can remake games to fix bad controls or visuals that impede gameplay and you can remake games if they are old... I guess. You cannot remake a game to make it good because the original sucked. Just make a new game!

Brominer was neat, but shit. So you make Infiniminer, not Brominer the Return. Infiniminer is better but still shit, so you make Minecraft, not Memories of Infiniminer: codeRED.

And then they never can just make quality of life improvements, can they? Very quickly the content revisions start. Shit, when they re-released (not remade or remastered) Chrono Trigger for mobile phones the dumbfucks found a way to introduce bugs and glitches that were not present in the original or any of the handful of prior re-releases. I see the increase in remakes as directly correlative to the decline in the general quality of games.

In the case of Resident Evil, you can mostly sell me on the new remakes of 2 and 3. All the others either have servicable remakes or in the case of anything from 4 to now, the games are good looking and very playable.
I feel you. Dead Space 2 is already a pretty much perfect game but I can almost guarantee EA's gonna remake it now that the Dead Space 1 Remake is out when all they'd really need to do is remaster it. Again, it's all likely pretext to set right what once went wrong with 3.
That being said, I was never a big fan of RE5 so I'm kind of looking forward to seeing if they make it fun this time.

@Nonconsentual Pronouns Do you have any evidence for the content you're talking about? This would be interesting, if true. I know there is definitely something fucky about the game's story, there is still a black supremacist plotline in the game that is never explained and you have to go on the wiki to even know about it(the intro with the megaphone guy and the execution, that's apparently a black supremacist group that hunts whites down). Then there is that really weird moment where a white, blond haired woman is abducted and taken into a home while screaming. Whole thing is really rapey and uncomfortable to see, but thankfully she just has a zombie parasite shoved down her throat and her head has las plagas popping out of it, crisis averted. Really, now that I think about it there are a lot of blond, blue eyed characters in this game. Couldn't just be a coincidence.
What you're saying, with the aryan white supremacists groups and Jill having her hair color changed all of a sudden, I am guessing this was the missing link that was actually cut. The whole eugenics thing falls flat for Wesker in the final game since he doesn't show any evidence of what he's talking about, it's just mumbo jumbo you would expect an evil villain to rant about, but if this was about some sort race related eugenics, then this would actually be really interesting.
Shame about the darkness/light contrast feature being cut. Not crazy about the survival mechanics but you could have some fun with this.
This was forever ago before they even redesigned Chris to make his biceps smaller (in 2008?), so unfortunately all I have is my word ATM. I have no idea where I'd even start to look for this kind of thing, especially since I vaguely recall trying to pull up the article/interview/leak/whatever it was a few times to show my dad and my friends after the game had just come out, and it was gone. It's really frustrating, but I'm not going to hold it against anyone who doesn't just take "nah, just trust me, bro" from some rando online. I mean shit, what if it was a fake "leak" or something of the sort I'd read when I was a kid? But it all makes too much sense for everything I recall to be bullshit.

@Nonconsentual Pronouns This is the most comprehensive Resident Evil 5 beta page I could find
Might be worthwhile to contact them and see if they can corroborate on anything you said. I would definitely be interested if any of this had an inkling of truth, because it does sound like something that was planned at some point. People forget that the big bad of RE4, or all the ham that game had, was planning to take down post-W era "War on Terrorism" America thru bio warfare with various criticisms of back then modern US thru out the story. Something like this would definitely have been up the their boathouse at that point in time.

Forget the whole “DASS RAYCISS!!!” narrative they’re trying to pull.
Isn’t RE5 the game notorious for being nothing but one giant escort mission with some of the dumbest AI ever seen in a game? That alone is why it shouldn’t be remembered.
I had it on the PS2 and couldn't be bothered finishing it. I'd only played Resident Evil 1 and 2 prior to this and remember thinking WTF is this garbage...

Both Sheva and Jill are bombshell cuties and both Chris and Wesker are molten hot gigchads. That alone means this game won't make it past the cutting room floor. The industry worships evil and jacks off to the hideous.

5 was never on the ps2? That was RE4. Or did you mean the ps3?

5 was fun. After getting over the initial disappointment that it was like 4 story wise, I'd say after REmake 1 it's the RE I replay the most. Helps that it had the best mercenaries mode, so much so they ported that to the 3ds.

I think RE5 will get a unneeded remake, but no way will Capcom keep tribal village part with spear chuckers, would cause a shit show I don't seem them wanting to deal with.
JJ was cut from re4make and replaced with a variant of the new brute enemy so likely we'll see an executioner with a minigun later on.

I'm not even going to go into the elements that were politicized, like RE4 being ESG friendly or Jill in RE3 being an ugly girl boss, this is strictly about gameplay, however those are also factors that others will consider.
What does "ESG" mean?

I remember RE5 co-op being fun. Another friend of mine had no trouble with Sheva iirc, and he was a dumb motherfucker.

I've always side eyed IGN, even way back when they actually played video games.
