I'm getting too old for this shit.

Welp, I find myself posting on here mainly in A&H and in a few threads that I enjoy following. Also the vidya section is pretty fun. I think it works for me because I can say things on here that, while not -ist or -phobe in nature, would elsewhere probably get all the foamers ringing up my workplace and demanding they fire me. I don't have enough people on my Faceache to really do that.

There used to be a website called Everything2 which I enjoyed for the same reason as the Farms. It was, in its day, a perfect little anthill of autism, where you could start by reading someone's factual page on a given model of car and then navigate to actually well written erotic fiction, deliberately appalling poetry, and then to its own in-joke and meme pages like "THE LOUD NODE" and "Fuck me like you fucked that horse" and "Lesbians! Monkeys! Soy!" and "Tits on a keyboard." There was even a chat facility known as the catbox where people would generally shitpost all day, every day. And you could say things that were "off message" and wouldn't get you harassed to death because it actually did have anonymity - you just needed any old e-mail address to sign up, there were no blue ticks or real name policies - and the only rules were basically, no trolling, and effort posts are compulsory, other than in the catbox and the daylogs.

It's still up but its userbase has plummeted down the toilet. There's less than one percent of the activity on there now than there was when I first joined.

In a way, E2 bridged perfectly the endless feeling of freedom and new-car-smell of Web 1.0 with the community aspects of Web 2.0.

/me misses Everything2.

But this place had that kind of feeling and in places still does. Unfortunately as you say, lolcows are not as funny as they used to be, or they are normal because a normal social media user in 2020 would be a cow by 2016 standards. Or maybe I've been on here too long.

Chris is currently in the grip of the Idea Guys and isn't producing quality content because some cretins never realised that he was funniest when left alone to his own devices. Amberlynn is too depressing. Wu would still attend the opening of a letter but feels like she's becoming irrelevant. Phil got his bicycle and his stink ditch and there was no way he could improve on that. Yaniv continues to be amusing at times but other than ballwaxgate there's not much actually amusing. Of the cows I have made threads on, Jonathan Bishop seems to have kept his head down, Kevin Allred is now normal for twatter (!), Lauren Harries is also now normal for twatter (!). Danny Glass is also normal for social media now and once he killed his girlfriend there was little he could do to top that.

Thing is, if this went under new management I'd understand. It must be very wearing.

For my part, if this place goes, I'd definitely try to keep the spirit alive. Since joining this place in 2016 (mainly to follow Vordy), I've found myself more willing to not give a shit IRL and more willing to upset peoples' applecarts. Unfortunately as you say, most people just want to be inert little NPCs. They are content to follow the progressive diktats, and so long as they can slack-jawedly gape at Love Island in the evening, crush a few pints of Stella in a Vertical Drinking Establishment, and they aren't starving, they don't give a shit.

I myself think that people have got noticeably stupider in the past 10 years, and I blame social media and the utterly degraded state of Western culture for that. I don't mean that our culture is degenerate because it's full of furries and Drag Queen Story Hour. Those are symptoms. No, our culture is degenerate because it relies on short term dopamine hits and meaningless spectacle over actual quality content with real bite to it or with real thought behind it. Culture is important because it's the glue that holds a society together; a society is its shared stories and shared understanding and its legendry, all of which has a meaning behind it that gives a society its identity and cohesion. But what have we today? Clapping for the NHS, shit reality shows, drinking to excess, and not being racist. That's not a solid foundation for a society. What does Take Me Out or Naked Attraction say about the human condition on a global scale? That we are fucked up and full of shit.

This is why we have Drag Queen Story Hour, anti-vaxxers (despite a global fucking pandemic), the fiction that with hormones and surgery one can become another sex when that is coded in at the genetic level, fat activism, and record levels of alcoholism, depression, and drug abuse.

And anyone and anywhere that dares to call out this degraded excuse for a culture for the stupidity it is, i.e. on here, is an -ist or a -phobe.

Anyhow. Thanks for reading my ramble. I'm shuttin' down, work tomorrow.

I'm a new user but long time lurker. I really appreciate this site and everybody on it. I come here for the lolcows and the discussions.

You've been running this site for years and have gotten a lot of grief from various people so I can understand why you would be getting burnt out. I also think a break would be in order. I'm sure you have capable people who can hold down the fort until you get back.

Bluntly put, kill the site. Move somewhere else (if you plan on staying in the balkans, montenegro and B&H are dirt cheap and offer the same quality of life as serbia) cut off all contact with anyone associated with your current life and start anew
You'll never change if this site continues to exist.

"Politics exploded in 2016 and has slowly become a defining feature of the forum. Right-wing politics has turned any discussion of trannies into a communally written manifesto about Jewish influence on society."

You want tranny politics, go onto /gif/. Literally any and all mentions of anything from BIG DICK GIRLS to SOFT TRANSGENDER CAMGIRLS has a post:picture ratio of 50. It's not KF; it comes with the gender politics in general.

I've joined this place rather late I'd imagine, and never really cared much for any of the big cows who got their own section, but do enjoy the general vibe and level of consideration people share on here. For a vile hate machine people make sure to mock whoever string along just to talk shit.

One thing I never understood about KF is why people keep acting like we're all internet degenerates or "haha of course /we/ would say something like that!". I haven't seen this level of maturity and range from young white incels to busty sex-having women anywhere else on the internet. Any IRL thread I've read tends to show how diverse this website is, and how kind people can be in threads fitting such a narrative.

I only really know of Null through the memes other throw their way, but seeing all the lawsuits and shit popping up and how both cold-hearted and confidently he deals with things, it'd be a shame if the site died. I wouldn't say it's a bastion of free-speech but it certainly has room for wrongthink and debating; something severely lacking in today's climate. Say something wrong and you get banned and cancelled for questioning the narrative. Even if that narrative is whether the PS5 looks like a router.

No idea how difficult it is to keep this place alive but seems like it means a lot to a lot of different people, and not just the angsty Kekistan leftovers wanting to stroke themselves rabid over the notion of being able to say whatever they want.
If you’re not enjoying the forums as much anymore than it’s probably better you distance yourself or take a break...maybe even consider giving it to someone else, idk, there’s 50K fuckers on here, someone would have to be willing.
I dip between sub-sections nillywilly and it's day and night how people act. It'd require some in-depth analysis of each section's regulars and what not. It's the same old shit: Those who want powers shouldn't have them, and those who should have them don't want them. That's why Reddit's top 200 subreddits are moderated by the same corrupt 50 people trading sub-ownerships like pokemon cards. Literally.

LONG ass time lurker of a few years. Signed up pretty much just to express my support for Null. I will say this: KF has brought a lot of joy to people. You don't always know what it's like to have truly free speech until it is under the gun. Could be losing a livelihood thanks to the current political climate. But KF is like a brain enema. Even with the politisperging, there's always new insight to gain and autism to laugh at. (Didn't mind losing A&H as a public service, though.) Null, if you're reading this, I agree with your assessment of life. Kids and family is where it's at. But since I'm post-30, I'll say this... it's OK to take a break and walk away, AND come back. Eventually a "fuck it" attitude kicks in and you might tackle things from a different perspective. No judgment. I just hope we'll always have a place for free expression. It's more critical now than ever.

As someone approximately your age, I feel everything you said. Late 20s do be like that. I would reccomend taking a break to focus on your personal goals, and handing over admin power or sharing it with someone you trust. Political sperging is all fun and games when you're 21. Not so much at 28, it's just tedious now.
i agree with this 100%. null needs a break for a while

On a more serious note, I appreciate the difficulty of what Null has had to go through to keep this site alive for us. All those suggesting Null hand over the reigns to somebody else don't understand. I haven't been here very long but from what I've seen from him it's obvious that such a suggestion is something he would never seriously entertain. I doubt he will pull the plug on the thing that he's worked most of his adult life on creating and protecting, but if he does it's entirely within his right to do so. I'd much prefer he jump ship and live to fight another day than be found with a self inflicted gunshot wound in some eastern european apartment because the constant stress and isolation finally pushed him over the edge.

It’ll be a year in June since I’ve been here, so that makes me a “newfag”, I guess. Honestly, I only came her for Amberlynn Reid, some gamers, and Deathfat/Beauty Parlor. I didn’t come here for politics, especially since I strongly disagree with half of you, Null included, in some cases, if not many. If I want politics, I can go play on Reddit. This place is supposed to be for the Lulz.

I would be sad if this site shut down. I really grew to like it over time. I knew about it for years, but only really decided to join when ALR haters talked about it. It still has a lot of fun spots and I simply avoid spots that aren’t so fun. I guess Null doesn’t have that luxury. :\

If it counts for anything, I think you've made a positive change in the world and you've had a big impact on 2010's internet culture. This site lets us discuss things we can't talk about anywhere else. It's thanks to this forum that Jonathan Yaniv is well known, it's thanks to this forum that Jani and Bhodi Schofield have been saved from their abusive parents and it's thanks to this site some zoosadists have been arrested. You've done good, Josh. I think fighting for free speech is noble.

If running the forum isn't fun, let it die slowly like Something Awful. Right now, people desperately need a place to discuss things that are taboo elsewhere. The censorship surrounding Black Lives Matter is insane.
