This thread is the usual "Surprised there are no threads about X game" but now its from the Infamous franchise.

Like my friend described it without any prior knowledge "Is it about urban super heroes, right?", talk about being so wrong and yet so right.

The first two follow the story of Cole MacGrath as he gets powers from an eletric nuke of sorts in the middle of the universe's equivalent of New York. The city is put under lockdown and a plague begins...to...appear....yeah, the plot of this game now feels oddly prophetic, also very ironic given what the ending of the game ultimately imply this entry and the sequel are all about.

Anyway, last entry we got was Second Son back in the early PS4 days. Its far from a bad game but I still hold Infamous 2 above it and its plot kind of is a giant retcon given which ending of Infamous 2 it continues (again, no spoilers from me at least). If you havent played these games, you really should, the original is a bit janky but its still worth a playthrough, the sequel is one of the best games on the PS3 period and Infamous Second Son is good enough if you turn off your brain during some plot segments.

The series is kind of dormant right now as Sucker Punch is focused with other endeavers like cashing in the popularity of Ghost of Tsushima (an earned one but still).

Unpopular opinion maybe but Second Son is the closest we will ever get to a good X-Men game as I havent see any good Marvel hero games in recent history that are not Spiderman, much less X-Men.

What are your thoughts?

I maintain that the final "moral" choice from the end of Infamous 2 is not only the single best moral choice in any game, but the developpers could have easily made it better by not color coding it.

"Half as long, twice as bright" hardest shit i've had to do in a videogame :'(

I don't remember which one I played but I enjoyed the fuck out of it. Should replay it.

Edit: It was the first one. Pretty awesome game.

Played the first one, really dug it, specially the Fate-tier twist at the end. Though it's definitely showing its age nowadays, as am I.

I actually liked Second Son. Story wise it was weak, but the gameplay was more fluid. The ability to leap from rooftop to rooftop with the Neon powers made a young me feel like a badass.

Though I don't understand why they never gave Deslin a chin.

If there's games that deserve a rerelease, its the first two Infamous games. Second Son was definitely the weakest of the three, but I'd still buy that Three-Pack.

It's probably the closest we'll ever get to a good - non Spiderman - capeshit video game series.

I played 1&2 way back in the day. They're pretty fun titles, but I'm not a fan of morality systems. Still, I got to give the series some respect for having injected some variety into the PS3's library back when Sony still had somewhat of a soul. I can't imagine another Infamous title coming out today with even a shred of the same level of quality as the first two.

You should play the sequel, that one surpasses the first one in every way amazingly.

I replayed the series recently and I told my friend that was watching me on Twitch (who is a big X-Men fan), "You will never see the X-Men having the guts to do this, at least without a convenient way around it".

And technically, still is an "evil/good" decision but its far less black and white that it usually is. You can make the argument that this is simply evolution and humanity has to go but you can also say that a massive scale of death of this magnitude is wrong no matter what.

Sucker hasn't lost it yet. Ghosts is one of the best games on the Ps4.

Loved these games with a passion; played the first two several times, which I don't generally do. Didn't finish the third.

I think I agree with Yahtzee on this: "Morality" systems shouldn't be "Do I stop this guy from drowning puppies, or do I help him find rocks for the sack?" They should be "Do I share this food, or do I take it all for myself?" This is actually in the first game; minor fail because it's "Sure, share the food, no skin off my nose." Could have been fixed with a "Food Remaining" meter that fools you into thinking you might need that food.

I had a weird reaction to the second game. There's this one enemy soldier with a distinctive voice who keeps egging everyone else on. I don't usually get emotional about NPCs, but I hated this guy. I was actually hoping that if I just offed enough enemies, I could kill him for good. But no joy.

And then, at the end, where the real villain is revealed and everyone's shooting at him, and I'm there going after the final boss, I hear that cracker son of a bitch yelling "Go get 'im, Electric Man!!"

Well... shit. I wanted to have a beer with him.

Infamous 2 really made you care for everyone, including the bad guys in a weird way (minus Bert, fuck that guy to the pits of Hell).

I'll just say it, I loved the byplay between Cole and Zeke - the way they were written, you could tell, WITHOUT it needing to be pounded into your skull, that they were the best of friends. Honorable mentions go to a cutscene with no dialogue, they just share a look and open beers, and the unexpected phonecall after accidentally-ing a gas station.

Also not gonna lie, fired up the PS3, I forgot there was that weird Vampire spinoff, and that I had bought it at some point...

Something I discussed with my friend is that Zeke was pretty unlikable and selfish ultimately, made you wonder WHY and HOW someone like him could be close buds with Cole. Sure, he "tries" to redeem himself at the end but that was nothing in the long term.

The sequel not only redeemed Zeke but made us actually get where their friendship came from. Which made both endings crushing no matter which you choose.
Besides, with quotes like these...

"Hey, I dont call you brother because I like the way it sounds"
"Half as long, twice as bright"
"There is no one with more humanity than Cole Macgrath...I love you, brother...and I will sure miss you..."

Yeah, Zeke had one hell of a redemption in the sequel compared to what he did in the first game.

Having the opposite morality girl side with you in the final choice was an interesting twist too. And they make it believable by given them a reason to do so that isn’t the same as yours but makes sense.

It felt oddly realistic too, Kuo, the "angel" turning out to be far more self centered and selfish than she seemed. It really spoke on how true heroism being the kind where you are ready to die for others...she clearly wasnt. I know it wasnt the intention ultimately but that has aged well considered we live in an age of surface level heroes who would throw as many as needed under the bus to maintain a good image of virtue.

Really enjoyed the first 2, especially 2. Only checked out Second Son recently through Ps Now. Didn't get far enough to judge it as a whole but had to groan when the first thing you had to do was shake your controller like a paint can then awkwardly use it to tag a billboard. Always roll my eyes when I put in an early Ps4 or 3 title and remember "oh yeah that didn't stick."
