I'm entering the first heavy playtest for a game I have been working on, on and off, for years. I have a very solid (although still a tad messy) playtest document ready, with art and everything. I'm currently looking to balance the numbers, look for missing information in the playtest document, and formalize any ad-hoc rulings that seem to come up in play. There's a lot of really fun gamers on this site so I thought I'd try to run a game of it here too.

The premise is that at some point in the future (implicitly the far-future, but because of setting quirks a possible interpretation is some time close to our own) the boundaries between reality and imagination come tumbling down and everything ever concieved by humans becomes real. This happens for a very brief period of time, and as soon as it ended all of the impossible things ceased to exist. However, a lot of the merely improbable things remained and the chaos that resulted was enough to cause the fall of human civilization.

It's now the Second Dark Age and the rules have changed. With the exception of a few scattered city-states, humanity has been reduced to tribes clinging to scraps of civilization and technology. Creatures conjured from legends, delusions and ancient pop-culture stalk the night, while high-tech supercrops overrun ruined cities like weeds, bringing back the hunter-gatherer paradigm in a big way. Psychic powers, strange mutations, and worst of all magic have given even mortal humans frightening new power to abuse. It's the Hyborean age built on the ruins of our culture made physically manifest.

That's my attempt at a concise summary; the premise really takes a page to fully articulate. Such a page exists in the playtest document.

I'd love to run a forum game of this. I'll take as many or as few people as are interested. I really need to get some heavy testing for this game so I'll run several games if necessary (or one game with two people if that's all I have). My preference is for play-by-post forum games but if there is a lot of interest for a skype game or something maybe I could work something out.

You can play pretty much anything. The rules for playing humans are the most in-depth, but just in the core book (and the playtest document) there are rules for playing robots and talking animals. The first two characters ever made for the game were a cowgirl and her polar bear friend. If you have an idea for a character but can't think of how to make it, accommodations can easily be made.

If you're interested post here to indicate as much and I'll PM you the rules, which I'll ask you to please not distribute. The PDF version of the core rules will be a free download when the game is released anyway, but I'd prefer if this early rougher version was kept to playtest-eyes-only.

I'm having fun with the RT game. I'd be willing to play this.

My question is, with @champthom approval, can we make one based on this: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/the-official-what-i-got-for-secret-santa-thread.6671/#post-456073
A Canticle for Lebinwitz meets heavy metal would be fucking hilarious.
If so, I had a few ideas on how the setting of @champthom's tale, mostly just factions and such.
Loveshy cult compound led by Fshmidt?
Deagle Nation as a post apocalyptic society/militia located out of Barstow?
Tyce's Skulls gang stalking the Salton Wastes?
Social Justice Jihad?
Plasma cannon powered through guitar riffs?

This is all very doable if there's support for the idea.

There's actually an aspect of the setting where there are tiny pocket dimensions that are basically the personal mindscapes of people from just before the fall of civilization, usually crazy people or people with strong personalities, that bled into the real world. Basically where I'm going with this is that having a CWCville pocket dimension is incredibly in-setting.

Edit: There's also a canon kingdom of animal anthromorphs, some of whom are actual furries who are descended from furries who mutated into their own self-images during the fall.

You could be a Metalhead remnant tribe, a tribe built around the preservation of the culture of Metalheads. As the heroes of this tribe you'd all be guitar-playing power armored warriors covered in horns and anarchy symbols, or crazy wizards wearing gas-masks or whatever. Maybe your base is some kind of dark tower from a heavy metal album cover that emerged fully formed from the bowels of the Earth during the fall.

Funny thing you mentioned that, I was thinking of using elements of my short story in an RPG I'd want to run, probably D&D. If you do it, I'd be interested in how it comes out. My story was mostly just kinda borrowing standard tropes of post-apocalyptic fiction and fantasy while tying in some of lolwut's likes and dislikes. A lot of metal has fantasy elements to it, like Dio's "Holy Diver" so it works out well.

You're more than welcome to use my story as a setting, I'd just like to know how it turns out and what you've done with it for curiousity's sake. It's not like I have a super in depth world I've built, you're welcome to use it as a setting.

Someone else actually asked me to do a sequel or prequel involving a cult of neckbeards, problem with that is I feel it'd kinda be too derivative of my original short story.

In any case, I'm really flattered that people actually liked my story.

If I can play as a talking corgi then I am totally in; if that's okay.

You can absolutely, 100%, play a talking Corgi. Either an anthropomorphic Corgi or a literal talking Corgi. The talking Corgi can also have psychic powers or x-men style mutations.

Can I play as Mel Gibson?

There are lots of ways in which you could play Mel Gibson. You could play Mel-Gibson-As-William-Wallace as half-remembered by some guy who died 100s of years ago, who believes his name is Braveheart, and who was spat-out fully formed from some dream dimension. You could play Mel Gibson himself who traveled to this horrible future he never knew. You could play someone who was physically transformed into Mel Gibson by means of magic or strange radiation (that's the comic book kind of radiation. The real, hair-falls-out kind still exists too.) I guess you could also be the ghost of Mel Gibson.

Dead serious, you can play basically anything.

I want to play as actual Mel Gibson, Hollywood superstar.

Oh gosh, I'm down for playing a literal corgi that's a necromancer.

Since it's far in the future is it Mel Gibson who was sent here via time travel, Mel Gibson kept alive with advanced technology, Mel Gibson revived with advanced technology, or Mel Gibson: it turns out he was immortal.

Magic in this setting is really powerful and dangerous. You could be a psychic necromancer who animates the dead like puppets, or a true magic necromancer who pulls some serious Pet Semetary-style shit.

Just Mel Gibson. He doesn't have to explain himself to the likes of the rest of the party.

That's fair. You'll still have to pick a tribe type for starting skills but you don't necessarily have to be from that tribe.
