Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus Trailer Released

Here's the pitch bible for Invader Zim. Some interesting bits:

1. Dib was more or less a creep who just happened to be right for once (on Zim being a legit extraterrestrial). You could see shades of this in the unaired prototype and pilot episode.

2. Gaz played a bigger role, playing both sides. She was called a "sinister Dana Scully" and got experimented on by Dib.

3. Gir was designed to be a robot who was bad at his job but still sincerely did his tasks rather than what he turned out to be in the show proper.

ZIM discovers his almighty leaders never had any intention of coming to Earth and he loses confidence in himself for the first time in his life, which is the big break his human nemesis, Dib has been waiting for. Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus arrives on August 16, 2019.
Netflix trailer is out. Kinda excited rn.
I'm also seeing this synopsis on its Netflix page that read:
When Zim reappears to begin the next phase of his evil alien plan to conquer Earth, his nemesis Dib Membrane sets out to unmask him once and for all.
And I wonder if one of them (or both) are true or not.

Hey, has IZ ever been legally streaming anywhere prior to this film, by any chance (YouTube notwithstanding--honestly shocked Viacom never tried to take episodes down)?

Eeeeeeeh, technically Tak did show up in the first issue, but it wasn't really her. Rather a ship's computer that had her thoughts, feelings, voice, and personality programmed into it. So it wasn't Tak herself, but it was basically Tak.

Ah ha...Ah ha ha ha. HA.

Granted it's rarely there, and when it is it's usually in the guest comics, but it's there if you know where to look.

Aside from that the comic's pretty good.

I’m sorry but that shit looks hilarious.

I liked it as well. The improved modern animation (2D and 3D) stands out a lot on a good way. The character designs are fresh yet famillar. I liked that Gaz isn't a one dimensional discounted Mandy and plays up her sister and gamer side a bit more (and it was a bit to get used too). While I was expecting them to adapt stuff from the unfinished scripts or something and that disappoint me a bit, at the end it didn't matter because it subverted my expectations and amused me. The effort they put in the animation with a simple yet entertaining plot, made it worth it for me. Could be a bit darker tho but I'm satisfied for now. I guess.

I liked it. Humor was great, on par or greater than the show's best episodes.
It was a little bit weird to see Gaz be an actual sister to Dib, when I don't recall there being even a single moment in the show in which she showed hints of empathy or compassion. She was always just genuinely uncaring and self-focused. Invader Zim is the type of show to break cliches such as the "unfeeling character with hidden depths" trope, so it might have been more interesting to keep it that way. The direction that they took fit better with the plot and the themes that they were going for though, so ultimately I do think that it was the best thing for this movie.

I was hoping to see the tallest finally tell Zim the truth to his face. The movie could have ended with Zim getting over it and becoming content to work independently. This would provide a bit more resolution to serve as the show's finale while still leaving things open ended.

Still, closing with the Irken Armada trapped in the Florpus was a perfect ending.
It wasn't a big finale like Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie, but still a superb revival special. It was also filled with a lot of great freeze frame bonuses, so I'll definitely be re-watching. I'll give it a solid 9/10.

I wasn't expecting much, but it was damn good. good animation (it's very clean, but doesn't have that same grime of the original), sight gags, weird audio design that's pitch-perfect. It's like it never left. It uses some ideas and concepts from the comics the first 20 is the set-up from the first issue. Then it's original stuff. It's even got a justin roiland cameo in it.

so miles ahead of the rocko's modern life netfilx special.

The Netflix special was pretty great, just like the comics, I was worried somehow they’d ruin it but they didn’t.

It was also nice to see his musician friend Jimmy Urine in the credits, Jhonen and him haven’t worked together for a while.
