And let's take into account that he has no friends and has mostly given up on the attraction crap. Does he have any reason to get away from his errands and loiter anymore?

Well, he doesn't necessarily have no friends. Plus, he wants to get out to get involved in social things. He went to madicon, for example. Amazing that Barb let him go to that, but I think she just let him go to one of the three days.

Why does Chris even put up with her? Jeez man, is he that enthralled to her?
He thinks she's holding him hostage and he feels a duty to take care of his mommay. I think that's pretty much it.

Barb's protecting Chris, but not just for his own sake. With Bob gone, Chris is all she's got left, so she keeps him on a tight leash so that he would be fearful of the world outside 14BC and be reluctant to leave his ailing, doting mother alone.

I'm not gonna get into the spooning or the pseudo-incestual bunk. That's a whole other can of worms.

I think we have to finally accept the obvious. Barb has Autism.

i would feel worse for him if he hadn't just proven through 200+ caps that he's a knobhead who wants others to fight his battles

also can you guys stop suggesting incest, it's creepy.

That... Makes too much sense. And Autism is likely to be passed on, so it would make Barb even MORE responsible for how Chris turned out.

I must have missed a leak somewhere, could someone point me in the direction to where it was revealed Chris and Barb live in the same room and play video games together? It sounds like a recent leak but unless I'm overlooking something I can't find it on the Cwcki.

The CWCki is often a few days behind the forums.

Update under the spoiler.

Autism is genetic?! I was just implying that 60 years of chugging Mad Dog 20/20 is catching up with her.

Barbara is a true wine connoisseur.

Barbara is a true wine connoisseur.

She preserves her q-sands in Mad Dog so it soaks in the flavor. Also, her purse ran out of room.

I think there's something that can explain all of this.

First, you have to remember that Barb comes from a long line of utter trash. Her grandfather (or was it great-grandfather?) was a known hooligan and moonshiner who "failed to provide even the most basic of support for his family", as he was too busy having affairs with women significantly younger than he was.

Now, onto Barb's father. A long time ago, on a prior incarnation of /cwc/, someone found a portrait of him. Thing was, he looked almost exactly like Chris, save for the fact that he looked to be far better groomed. That wasn't the important part, though. The important part was his date of death was 1955, when Barb would have been fourteen. Fun fact: his death was a "wagon accident", which suggests that he was some combination of stupid, unlucky, or drunk.

Now, losing a parent at fourteen would probably cause someone to develop abandonment issues, and Barb wasn't any different. According to Chris, she lost her v-card at sixteen, likely because she was trying to use sex to cope with the problem. As she got older, her choice in mates seemed to consist entirely of surly old men several years her senior, almost as if she was seeking a replacement daddy-she-could-fuck. This continued on, through all of her questionable mates, right up till Bob kicked the bucket.

Barb promptly lost it. Two of the three things she's used to ignore her festering abandonment issues--sex and marriage to older men--are no longer a possibility for her. As a result, her hoarding has intensified to the point where it's literally the only thing keeping her from breaking. October 28th didn't make things any better, and neither did Chris's continued disrespect for authority.

It's probably not long before she bans him from buying certain games

Barb is protecting Chris the way a bear trap protects a bear from getting lost in the forest.

This supports the incest theory even more. But... wow. I guess everyone with the Chandler name is destined for shit.

Despite all the nasty shit Chris has said and done, it's hard not to feel pity for him. He started off as a mid-20s manchild in a very literal sense, being completely unwilling to grow up or achieve independence, happy to continue living the life of a 10 year old child at the age of 25. Now he's a 31 year old man who wants more independence but struggles to get his mother to leave him alone at home, much less let him go outside. It's really quite sad; Chris finally grew up mentally but his mother continues to treat him like a child.

I don't think he's grown up mentally at all. I think even he doesn't like the idea of a 70+ year old smothering him.

He definitely has to some extent. When he was first discovered he'd rant and rave at the very mention of people drawing pickles on Rosechu or calling him gay. He genuinely fell for an 'imposter' CWC that he thought everyone else believed was the real deal. At the very least he's no longer as gullible as he once was. It's not much, but you take what you can get with Chris.
