Is this site better on TOR?

Is it just me, or has the addition of an extremely basic barrier to entry reduced the number of retards (albeit it hasn't got rid of all of them) who were shitting up the site in various ways? Most of the worst posters it seems are unable or unwilling to just download a different browser, and it feels more like a community. I remember Null saying multiple times that the site's size has been to its detriment because there are so many posters you don't get to know individuals, plus it's harder for problem users (such as Fedposters) to get spotted and dealt with. That's sort of changed now.

What's also notable is that with the site being less accessible, the number of cows complaining about "harassment" has sharply reduced. Either they were lying all along, they had confirmation bias from the site being up and talking about them, or there were some casual users here who were fucking with people who have wandered off somewhere else - or more likely some combination of all three. But it means we can observe, laugh and discuss, which is what the site has always been supposed to be about.

It's not all good - TOR is slow as shit, and the TOR browser doesn't play nice with Xenforo on mobile at all, causing glitches, disabled features and even worse performance than Brave. Plus some threads are a bit too quiet. But overall, I'm warming to this new reality. Null has said in the past he'd give up the site if he couldn't keep it on clearnet, but he's also said on Telegram yesterday that he's not rushing to bring us back up. I'd support that, maybe even permanently. It's nice to get a break from the Eternal Summer.

not having so many new retards joining the site has been very nice. this is especially true now that our tor anabasis coincides with new chris chan sightings(allegedly). every time anything happens with that guy we get an influx of new retards; that last batch was insufferable, i can only imagine how bad the next batch will be.

slow moving threads are kind of nice, it means that when i dont check the site for a few days i dont have 100 new pages to get through to get caught up with. so i am warming up to this new tor saga.

The site runs fine on tor. The real problem is the site no longer shows up on Google when you search certain names. Part of the farms' appeal is being a huge blemish on the online profile of those exceptional people who bring it upon themselves. Right now it really is censored when it shouldn't be.

Trying to access this place normally gives an error, so, if you didn't bookmark the TOR link at that special point in time when Null announced the End of The Sidewalk, you will be forever shut out from our website.

This is the equivalent of walking uphill both ways. It is the epitome of BASED.

I disagree.

1) Tor is slower. Sometimes its not so bad, sometimes its a 1998 simulator.
2) Is good for the site, to have an influx of mumsnetters and the like. It dilutes the concentration of edgelords, and stops the site from becoming an echochamber.
3) The onion site is much less visible. One of the finer aspect of the farms, is that it allows normies to see behind the veil of some of the ridiculous lolcows on the site...
4) ...and one of the more entertaining aspect of most lolcow threads, is the knowledge that most of the cows read their own thread obsessively. Especially that ugly gaptooth and failed drugdealer, Erin Reed.

I have the RSS feed bookmarked. Get on my level.

I get the argument but I think it's not quite that good. I think that Tor is bad as it cripples the speed and functionality of the site, but you have a point on a barrier of entry providing a sort of quality check.

It's a careful balance between gatekeeping and gatecrashing. You need some control but you can't just stifle any growth. No random guest posting and anonymous replies, but also no "invite only" and "need 7 business days to process application" and pay a fee; That sort of balance.

I think a good comprise would be allowing registration on seasons. So new users would be forced to lurk for a while before posting. Something like "registrations are open for a week every season" or such.

Does it not also protect fedposters? Sure, before they could also use TOR and/or a VPN, but now it's built-in that they must use tor.
If a fedposter tried really hard and managed to get the attention of the police, there was a chance in the past of catching them, while now...

Well, it's more about the fact that getting doxxxxed as a user means losing your job, friends, family, and your chance of going to heaven.

I don't want to think about tor being the only future, but if it must be very long term, I would hope there was a way to "mirror" the site on clearnet as a wiki of sort, at least for the main cows' posts (and adding only highlights, rather than every post")
At least there are still a few non-retards "content creators" who know how to go on tor and will keep looking at the farm for inspiration and keep citing it as a source, including a guide for their audience on how to use tor

Most of the more inappropriate things a lolcow does do not originate on this site. Anyone can take the social media links from said lolcow that are posted here and post them to the clearnet. In a way it is double cool: normie posts on facebook a screencap from here of a lolcow melting down on a site like resetera, said lolcow tries to take down the dang dirty trolls at kiwifarms, but gets filtered by the super secret tor link. The subsequent seething and dilation on the clearnet will (of course) get posted back here, and then the cycle will continue and our throbbing hateboners will rise again.:heart-full:

Lurking through petty Internet fights give me life, now that we're on Tor that doesn't happen nearly as much. I am dying over here for a pink triangle clown to shit up a thread again.

Seriously though, I'm shocked the farms is still going strong with regular posters while exclusively being on Tor, that usually kills most sites that were previously on the clearnet.
As of writing there are 829 people viewing the site, with 361 of them being signed in. That's impressive and shows that there's no real rush to get back online outside of Tor.
