There's also the fact that Rowling didn't see fit to "correct" the book cover artists or the films' casting directors when Hermione was depicted as a white girl everywhere.

But tbh honest this whole "Hermione was black" is a manufactured controversy. A black actress played Hermione in a Harry Potter play and Rowling said something like Hermione can be black, who cares. What race Hermione is has no bearing on her character so it doesn't really matter what race the reader imagines her as.

I’ve mentioned it in this thread a while ago but I’ll say it again since the topic was brought up. Rowling had her website set up in a way that had puzzles which once they were solved would show easter eggs featuring her pre publication notes and sketches with the above being included. The scene plays out the same in it’s published form minus the inclusion of Gary/Dean.

In 2012 the site underwent an overhaul and became a more traditional autobiographical website, getting rid of all the notes and sketches. It looks like the old format is back but I’ve yet to check if this old sketch is included.

Harry Potter was already finished once the SWJs started to gain influence. But, if she truly wanted to make something diverse, like having a black main character, you would think she would've started with later projects, like this pseudo prequel.

And guess what?

Besides some pandering minor roles like making the magical president of America a black woman, she didn't. In fact, pretty much all the main characters, that aren't gimmicks like the Asian serpent girl, are white. Nothing has really changed.

Don't get me wrong I'm not an SJW complaining about white characters. In fact, I don't mind. The issue isn't that they're white, but that she preaches being pro diversity, but isn't, really.

I'm not saying FB should've been diverse or whatever; I'm saying that if she truly believed in what she was saying she would've done what she preaches on twitter. I lose an additional year every time I have to explain to someone that Italians (ETA: as well as Mediterraneans in general) and Spaniards having darker hair and complexions does not make them "people of color". They are European. Obviously that doesn't mean that every single citizen is a blonde-haired, blue-eyed, pale-skinned Anglo, it does mean that they are not "people of color" in the context that they mean.

These fucks legitimately cannot keep their shit straight. How the fuck do you forget that the Spaniards were the ones that came in and colonized Central and South America? But yeah, I remember. It was, without question, one of the biggest ass-pulls I've ever seen in my life. The only way these people can justify liking anything is if it fits into a diversity check-box; and Disney gave in again, assuring everyone that they were collaborating with the Sami people to make the Northuldra tribe in the film look as POC as they realistically could.

Is it a realistic depiction? Fuck if I know, and fuck if I care: Regardless of whether the Sami are pale or dark, I'm tired of creators bending to whiny little babies crying about how there isn't enough "people of color" in a particular movie. Maybe instead of whining about how a fairytale set in Scandinavia isn't colorful enough for you, you could be advocating for an African-based fairytale to be Disney's next princess movie- or better yet.
