An AVGN episode can take 40 hours to make. That's how much you work a week at a full time job. He makes like one video a month. That's four times less than someone working a real job.

That's the funniest shit I've ever read. WOW you can work whenever you want, put in any amount of effort you want, put the video out when you want, but it takes 40 hours!!! Holy shit!!!! And the really ironic part is he says it takes HIM 40 hours, meaning it would take a non-retarded autistic (because normal autistics could do it way better) probably 6 hours considering that 40 hours includes taping tripods to your roof, drawing spreadsheets about how to transfer files between 6 different harddrives, recording in one media version to record it as another and transfer it to a further one, etc. So "40 hours" is probably more like "guy sits down for one shift at work".

it's not like he's gone between 1 a month/every few months. Guy is literally so out of touch with the world that he's complaining that he has to "work" 40 hours A MONTH(s), in WHATEVER WAY HE WANTS (eg. "wow this video is rendering for two hours, at my house, definitely can't duck walk into the other room with MUH KIDZ".

Imagine if he finds out that being actually employed means doing that (or likely more) IN A SINGLE WEEK. EVERY WEEK. FOREVER. But then in the immortal words of James "the Filmographer", "wow, I'm a filmmaker and here I am pushing shopping carts, what am I doing here".


This is of course ignoring that for the last what 3-5 years he: doesn't write the script, doesn't change the set, doesn't act (eg. he sits in one spot so no redoing massive fuckups), doesn't film it, doesn't do multiple multiple takes (and, again, one camera angle), doesn't pick the game, DOESN'T PLAY THROUGH THE GAME, doesn't record the game footage, doesn't edit....he literally shows up (IN HIS GARAGE), reads from a paper, and goes home (TO THE NEXT ROOM). So now you require about 1-2 of those "40 hours" (for your JOB), yet you somehow have so much LESS time to do anything (even watching a movie in parts with the sound off and subtitles is unfeasible now, and that's how he was doing it) for his....job....and he claims people "want him to suffer" by expecting he could use some of that 38/40 hours a month(s) he's now recovered to....write a 2 minute script about a movie he likes.....

And even before the slobs he didn't do half of this! Mike beat the games and recorded a lot of the game play, Kyle built the sets, etc.

I get that sometimes Youtube content creation can be as hard as any other job, but James literally has it much easier than most youtubers who make content nowadays. James only makes like one Avgn episode a month at least and all he does is acting in it where he doesn't even need to do anything challenging.

Like if he said this and was still like doing Monster Madness and other forms of scripted content, I can get it but he's much lazier nowadays when other gaming youtubers do much more work due to putting out more content.

Hell even removing James' own work ethic, self-employment at home is a much easier job compared to the grueling 40 hour work week the average person deals with.

When your big and established its easy to just show up and use little effort to make money, that is how you get those people on Youtube who just react to the latest news in an improvised unedited way or better content made by other individuals. If your small well you best hope if you reach the summit of the social media mountain (if you even do at all) the money there will make up for all the lost time you spent getting there. Its a shame James doesn't seem to be aware of how extremely fortunate he is to be in the position he has gotten to, that or he just doesn't like the work at all. If its the former, oh well since he has autism, if its the latter he can get in the line with the majority of people trying to make a living.

Basically what Doug Walker tried to do a decade ago when he tried to end the Nostalgia Critic but had to come back because it's the main cash cow, though that's not saying much considering each video gets less and less views (barely reaching 200K) as each year passes by. As mediocre as Doug's videos are, at least he is still putting in some effort into it since it's either that or get a real job after not having one for over a decade.
