This can’t even be considered bad anymore, it’s an internet classic that I will return to again and again, by contrast I don’t see anyone nostalgic for the AVGN movie, is it truly that awful, I’ve never seen it and probably never will but is it even worth it as a dumb curiosity with Doug’s movies?
It's not even close to being checked out just for curiosity sake.Believe me, you don't want your insomnia cured with this. At least Doug's CA anniversary movies will still be remembered as so-bad-they're-good while the AVGN movie will forever just be tortuously boring in the worst possible way.
I saw the AVGN movie and was hyped because I loved the series. I was shocked at how cringe it was. Fucking bad the entire time.

Never seen the Channel Awesome movies because they look extremely unfunny.

What’s OP’s bad about it exactly? Not just technical specifications but the actual quality of the film itself? It looks at the very least funnier and more competently made than Dougs films which I don’t even find so bad their good because I know all the controversy that went in to the production of that film. The AVGN movie isn’t at least made out of a place of ugliness.
It was just incredibly dull and stupid. James mentioned putting in tropes during filming and implied them to be ironic but they're played straight faced. Also the main attraction of the movie, the ET review, sucked ass. The tongue-in-cheek shitty effects were alright when you know James has a thing for them and wanted them in his movie but ultimately the movie is a 4.5/10 and is really not worth the time even for a watch for curiosity's sake.

Again, the CA anniversary movies are terrible, but they're unironically enjoyable in a so-bad-it's-good way no matter what. The CA anniversary movies made me smile for how bad they are while the AVGN movie made me frustrated, embarrassed and just downright sad inside, even cured my insomnia in some rare cases, because it's so bad and so boring.

It was played at a recent movie night on the Kiwi Farms channel. I never saw it and I heard it was bad but I was shocked at just how bad it was.

There are too many problems to list why it's bad but one thing I think did not help was the AVGN being as "famous" in-movie as he is online. I always thought that the whole Nerd persona worked best as an obscure angry manchild that just so happens to have a large audience in real life but in-universe, was just some nobody that most people didn't know of.

As is, the movie feels like an ego trip and it certainly hurt the film.

A bit late but watching Mike's Final Soldier stream, while very interesting hearing him talk about the series episode by episode, it definitely seems like he has seen or heard criticism regarding the book and James 'not being a real gamer'. He has nothing but praise for him and goes out of his way to stress how some episodes' gameplay was entirely James or how impressed he was with it multiple times.

Really interesting stuff though.

Space Cop is the only good youtuber movie because it's what I expected: Mike and Rich just making stupid jokes the entire time and I enjoyed it.
The Star Trek fan films posted to YouTube are decent and even the low tier ones in production quality make the Channel Awesome Alumni look like kids making movies in their backyards. With Brad being the exception, his films aren't really good, but they look decent for what they are unlike the rest.

Yeah like there was a part where the main villain of the movie used the fans as leverage for the Nerd and it was to show how virtuous the Nerd is that he wouldn't let his fans get hurt and cares about them so much.

The Channel Awesome movies are pretty shit (especially To Boldly Flee and Linkara's movie), but at the very least the ego stroking in the movies didn't have the characters be super cool famous people in universe.

I believe Richard Edlund VS His Sons will always be Mike Stoklasa's opus. The only technical flaw with the film is that, if you look closely, you can tell that one of the supposed guns in refrigerator storage was clearly plastic.

It’s not exactly what you’d call bad, just incredibly mediocre, which in some ways is worse than being bad. At least with a bad movie you can laugh at it and riff on it with your friends MST3K style.

I pirated it when it first came out and actually fell asleep about halfway through. Had to force myself to watch the whole thing a second time. It’s just so boring. The only thing that slightly piqued my interest was getting Howard Scott Warsaw to do a cameo.

As far as the Channel Autism movies, I’ve only watched Kickassia and Suburban Knights and yeah they’re bad, but in the way a young child is putting on a show for their parents kind of bad. It sucks, you know it sucks but they’re just so enthusiastic about it you smile, humor them and think “God bless them they tried!” Can’t say that about Bimmy

The quickest answer is: it's a testament to James' lack of understanding of what made AVGN succeed after 6 years of making the show and playing the character, a monument to his retardation when it comes to organizing things or making a serious film and finally a self-fellating session.

It's been a long time since I watched this piece of shit, so I don't remember every detail. Regardless, here's my two cents:
  • The little (but comfy) universe of AVGN gets thrown away - the "Angry Video Game Nerd" in the film is just an actor and all his previous adventures, like the various battles against video game characters, demons, hardware or the stories from Halloween specials never actually happened.
  • He's so famous that his fans constantly beg him for autographs and new material
  • Yet his incredible fame doesn't translate into income it seems, as he has to work at a video game store for an idiot boss who's also a huge jerk
  • The drastic changes to the setting force insertion of new characters the AVGN audience isn't familiar with, and who don't get much of an introduction. Probably a lot of people who watched the film when it premiered wondered, whether they were going to ever see Cooper and Mandy again.
  • The plot is very convoluted, with lots of branches (a lot of which don't lead anywhere). There's really a lot of stuff (more on that later), yet the film as a whole remains banal. The plot feels random at times and overall very unfocused, begging the question about what exactly was the story James wanted to tell (aside from showing how awesome he is). I hate to write this, but fucking Linkara's turd AT4W film has a more coherent and focused plot (that still sucks, don't get me wrong).
  • So what do we even have there? AFAIR, there's: a rockstar's dream, cliched boss-emploee relations, a camper journey, a mystery unveiled, secret evil plan of the military, Area 51, conspiracy, aliens, lone casual against the system, an ancient evil that just awakened, robots, zombies, martial arts scenes, a nerd saves the world, a kaiju destroying cities around the whole world, the militaries being helpless against the monster and finally a kiss scene.
  • I remember James putting emphasis on using practical effects. The problem is that they look bad in his film - it would get a pass in a web series, but not in something with such a budget. Lazy CGI sucks and tends to look much worse than the practical effects from the pre-CGI era, however the latter still require effort to actually shine.

Mike is the best friend James could've asked for.
