I've seen many worse movies, but that has more to do with the amount movies I have seen. But with most awful movie they are just made to make a quick buck or to have a good time on set quality be damned, however with AVGN Movie he truly put his all into it and that was the best he could which is just embarrassing, especially when he thinks it's some great movie and doesn't see how he failed.
I'll admit, I don't watch very many movies, but when I consider what the worst ones I've ever seen are, hype and pedigree come into play. I didn't expect anything particularly masterful from James, but I did expect something at least fun, considering how much I enjoyed AVGN over the years. And for how long that movie took to make, and the months and months between episodes of AVGN, after getting used to two episodes a month, I figured I was in for a treat.

Instead, I got a horrible, narcissistic, literally autistic stream of consciousness with a dash of woke pandering. I sat through the whole thing, too, giving James all the benefit of the doubt in the world, and it remains the #1 worst movie I have ever seen. It really irked me that Mike wasn't the sidekick at all, and only made a tiny cameo, despite being James' sidekick in real life, and most of the side characters on early AVGN. Instead, they just kinda shove this black kid into the role, and nothing against him, but he had no chemistry with the Nerd whatsoever. He's also never been brought up again, as if the movie's some kind of non-canonical side story. In fact, none of the movie characters made an appearance in the show, as far as I know. Even random porn parodies have more right to be considered canon of their franchises than the AVGN movie.

It's just icing on the cake that the entire production was screwy from start to finish, and how he (and April) used the crowdfunds to buy an expensive house outright. Everything about that damn movie was cursed, and seemingly only the Rolfes came out on top.

I wonder if that book is mostly about his shitty old home movies. If it has a good chunk about AVGN and Board James then maybe it will be cool.
It's roughly like this
~40 pages on him being a pants pissing retard and making "movies"
~40 pages on him being in high school and making "movies"
~50 pages on him being in college and making "movies"
~60 pages on him after college which includes like 20 pages on AVGN if I'm being generous
Then the last ~80 pages are mostly about the AVGN movie with about maybe 10 pages about being a dad and Rex Viper

The vast majority of the book is about his shitty "movies" and some random stuff done he's done like trying to cut himself with a boxcutter, sitting 8 hours waiting for a computer lab to open, crying that his mom turned off his shitty movie during Thanksgiving dinner (he was 16-18 btw), etc . He really seems to not like making AVGN or even talking about it anymore. Board James doesn't get mentioned much either.

I'm very sure people paid to see (and/or even contributed to the production of) the AVGN movie while on the other hand Nostalgia Critic movies are like free to watch legally (unless you went ahead and bought the DVDs for it) so for me I think this is a good comparison to know which is worse assuming both are equally bad in quality. An earlier post did say something along the lines of how the Nostalgia Critic movies looked like they were filmed with a cheap camera compared with the AVGN movie which was rather obvious, it's comparing a web miniseries with a crowdfunded movie actually displayed on theatres.

That being said I recalled watching the AVGN movie when a video file of it was leaked, and man did it suck. Bad jokes and usually involves the Nerd getting praised as if he's the God was so cringe.

So who’s winning? Doug Walker, James Rolfe, or Chris Bores?
Doug Walker only because you know what you get with him and it's consistent. Doug has also survived the CTC movement made against him and has come out as being the least autistic out of everyone involved. James' earlier content is still the best out of the 3, but he's been on a downward spiral for a while now with any new AVGN video being awful or mediocre, especially when his peers are producing better content. Chris Bores is still pathetic.

Unless there are more "The Wall" videos made on a regular basis or something major comes out, Doug is just stagnant, which is better than what can be said for James right now. Doug's videos aren't great, but they make for good background noise and he's transitioned his character from relying on memes and being irrationally angry to more of a self-aware humor while James still thinks he has to do the angry schtick because iT's iN DaH NaME

I know that Chris Bores is an "angry reviewer" like AVGN, but I legitimately have no idea what he does nowadays or what antics he gets himself into to lower himself down below Doug or James. I think I remember he got his mom to fight off trolls for him, but that's about it.

Chris Bores is more so irrelevant now than anything. He tried to make James seem like a villain in some tell all video he made a few years back which got instantly debunked as it was riddled with lies. The video tried to blame youtube for why people stopped watching his channel as well as James somehow being there to put him down and stop him while not taking ownership that he plagiarized AVGN in his early videos.

Recently, he was on his local news station where he talked about Ghost Hunting while the hosts are in the background trying not to laugh. His main focus went from irategamer to making a puppet type channel where he reviewed like toys to irategamer again where his history of video games videos were charming to say the least before that lost steam. Now, his main focus seems to be on making Ghost Hunting videos with the occasional irategamer upload.

I don't think anyone really put Bores in with the other 2 as he fell off the cliff fast as fast as he ascended. After a few years, people sort of forgot about irategamer and stopped caring. But it's not like he left as he has struggled to restart and remake his channel since falling off that cliff.

The actual E.T episode portion of the movie was fine. That's the nicest thing you can say about it.
The way he was hyping the fuck out of it in AVGN episodes before the movie, I was expecting something spectacular. The way he would get scared/angry over ET implied he had A LOT to say about it and would give the game the biggest ass-ripping he's ever done to any game. Instead that episode was nothing more than his generic AVGN shit he always does, which is saying a lot since he's done better AVGNs in the past, ones that he seemed to have some genuine passion about, unless that was all Mike as well.

IMO the AVGN movie was worse than Doug's simply because it was the worst kind of bad; boringly bad. If a movie is so bad it's funny like Doug's then it's at least fun to watch with friends and alcohol, or if it's frustratingly bad then you can at least rant about how bad it is and maybe get some fun out of it that way. But so bad it's boring and forgettable? That's just trash.

I tried giving the AVGN movie a watch back when it was out, and 20 minutes in, I couldn't even finish the rest.

Good, it should. It was, literally, truthfully, absolutely, the worst film I have ever seen.
The only good things that can be said about it are production values wise, it's indeed the highest of any of these web video "movies" (though it's only about the scale of the Kenan and Kel movie), the redhead is cute and there are some okay references to AVGN in jokes like the appearance of the glitch gremlin.

But the whole thing is so boring, I don't think I laughed once and the actual E.T. review feels like a completely tacked on afterthought (it should have taken place in the actual Nerd room for starters)

And like you also said, it feels like some weird alternate universe and not the "canon" Nerd universe.

I will say though that the AVGN movie, coming out in 2014, the year of Goofygoop, does feel like a capstone on all that gaming culture was up to that point, for better and for worse.

Doug Walker’s “Kickassia” was pretty bad, with the only redeeming features being it’s how I discovered CinemaSnob (but even he’s very mediocre in the grand scheme of things), NC acting like a spaz, and Lindsey Ellis acting like Sarah Palin.

Question is, was Kickassia (or any of NC’s “movies”) worse than the AVGN movie?
Kickassia is better, it came out of nowhere one day and was just posted online, as opposed to years of hype and an actual theatrical/blu ray run, the novelty of a feature length web video was pretty fresh, as was the novelty of seeing all those people together.

It was pound for pound simply more entertaining than the AVGN movie.

I think the only one that’s worse is To Boldly Flee. The other NC movies are at least comically bad. To Boldly Flee is boring and takes itself way too seriously
To Boldly Flee at least had a fun premise and say what you will about it all, but TGWTG at that time was an interesting snapshot of where online content used to be, since the mid 2010s everything has gotten a lot less ambitious, with most of it boiling down to people just sitting on their ass and jibber jabbing or playing a game or stuff that's just a shadow of what it used to be, even Red Letter Media used to be more ambitious.

It's interesting that Doug got a similar looking girl in his vids around the time, and they both had similar looking black guys too. Terribly unfunny actors, but I guess they checked out slightly pre-woke points.

Did AVGN's negro ever do anything again? Or the barely cute girl?

Just looked them up, a few credits since but nothing of note.

The black guy had a few notable credits pre-movie, including the Disney film Brother Bear and Jerry Maguire, the chick is a fairly no name actress.

I wonder if the original plan was for her to be a love interest for the nerd, not for a sidekick, but I imagine April didn't want her husband on screen romancing someone better looking.

To be fair, Malcom from the NC has more charisma than the guy playing Cooper does.

A romance subplot for the Nerd would have been weird for a lot of reasons. Who wants to see the guy who screams about diarrhea smooch a chick before giving his presentation on why this particular video game is the worst one ever? The Nerd is almost always alone and comes off as totally antisocial. Having even one friend is stretching it as it is, but having him "win the girl" before developing any kind of personality that isn't totally off-putting seems too forced.

Plus James is married, and his wife would probably show up on set to glare at him for every scene he acted in with his love interest. If it wasn't her idea, or at least approved by her, I don't think there would be any romance. James may be a delusional filmmaker, but he doesn't fully fit the "black tank top" archetype that Red Letter Media put forward. He makes films because he wants to be a filmmaker, not because he wants to be a badass action hero getting all the bespectacled nerd gash.

Honestly I think the most simple explanation is that they wanted to cast a girl but didn't know what to do with her. So she's a love interest. Of who? Not James, fuck no, how about a sidekick? Sure honey, I'll cast a black guy too.

That doesn't make any sense though. Wouldn't you need to write the script and get all your ducks in a row with how the story is structured, including characters, BEFORE you start casting people? I would figure James, the "movie maker" he is, would at least know THAT much.

I think the wife had more hands-on involvement with the movie once she came into his life. There probably was a dramtically different script for the movie than what we actually got when it was released.
