I really think if he had played his cards right he might have had a shot to fulfill his dream and become part of Hollywood although as a star, which is what he really wanted anyway, rather than the director he envisioned.

I think he achieved exactly the amount of success his inherent talent could have gotten him. He's not a great actor, he's not enough of a screen presence for Hollywood and his autism would have fucked it up long before stardom even if he had tried to go down that path.

James would be happier if he married Mike over his creepy feminist wife. I like the theory that it was her that got James to push Mike Matei away in favor of Justin Sliverman and Screenwave.

The sad thing is April was likely the best James could get. She probably has a sped fetish and gets it fulfilled with James who's pretty harmless for his disability, but she otherwise has long-term employment, likely isn't much worse than any other domineering wife, and is good enough at managing James's finances and helping out with his projects. And she's only overweight, not a total hambeast.

The only other women who'd marry James are terrifying autistic BPD hamplanets of the sort who want to fuck internet celebrities. Like the TV Tropes posters who wrote how hot he was back in the day and wrote the same thing about Doug, Linkara, and all the other Channel Awesome personalities and even Moviebob. While the Mike Matei gay marriage option would've been nice, James could've done a lot worse.

so far monster madness 2024, the all-corman-all-the-time edition, is... ok. i don't feel anything in particular towards these movies (and am not likely to watch them, so the spoilers don't bother me), but james does a decent job identifying what's interesting about them.

I commend Mike for his commitment to his specific brand of turbo-autism, it's endearing. I don't even know why he bothered to play Echoes of Wisdom, he must have known from the start it wouldn't be in his wheelhouse whatsoever. He'll say it's because people would otherwise constantly spam him asking him to play it, so essentially he paid $60 so he can tell those people to fuck off, I guess. Besides Mario Wonder, he also played the new Monkey Ball game and seemed to be bored out of his mind for almost the entirety of it. It's surprising how long he stuck with it, hanging onto the false hope it'd become more like the Gamecube one eventually.

I'm a fan of his and enjoy his streams a lot, but the guy will only really love a game when it's straightforward (he'll always skip any sort of story intro or dialogue if possible) and/or if the blueprint for that game is retro, difficulty included. Any ready-to-play game with punishing difficulty or mechanics he's accustomed to will get his attention. He'd rather play a poorly-made obscure side-scroller from 1992 for the fifth time, and in a way, I respect that he knows what he likes and doesn't pretend otherwise. It also often makes him look like an unreasonable, closed-minded moron throwing an embarrassing tantrum, but them's the breaks. He doesn't seem to care anymore. Good for him.

Late reply, but he comes across as Arin Hanson trying to play a Sonic game, or Dunkey “trying” to “review” an RPG. Why go out of your way to play something that you know you’ll hate, when you know your smug dismissal will only make you look like a tool?

I've watched some of his streams on youtube recently, and I gotta say he's probably one of the better streamers. His jokes land and he just insults everything.

If Rolfe retired, he'd be editing wedding videos or working at Walmart. Spoony turned out to be legit mentally ill which is very funny as his company was the terminally online clique of self-diagnosed aspergs.

NC is so bland the only thing you can rib him on is the Wall review and his wife is a rich heiress so he can stop anytime, which avoids a lot of problems when you have to degrade yourself in front of the camera to eat for the next month.

James had pigeonholed himself into doing this for the rest of his life and I think he has accepted it. This wasn’t how he wanted things to turn out, but he has accepted it. His online shows still generate views and is a good source of income for him and his family. Like mentioned above, if he’s not pumping out these videos, he’s working a retail gig somewhere or editing/making appearances in corporate phishing and other slop videos. He’s been his own boss for far too long to go back to that lifestyle.

Surprised by how well his older videos hold up. I haven’t gone back and watched the earlier seasons in a while, and leaving them on in the background while working, I managed to get a few hearty chuckles. I don’t watch much in the realm of gaming YouTube, but I’d wager the early Nerd stuff is better than whatever is new and hot.

It's not exactly horror but it is adjacent in that it's a pre-code exploitation movie in the jungle featuring decapitations, human sacrifice, slavery, drug and alcohol addiction, rape and murder which is SO FAR outside the wheelspokes for 1932 and it's right up James' alley considering his autism for horror from the 1920's-1950's.
