I watched the Blu ray video. A lot of legitimate complaints. But then it ads with this obnoxious ad for the AVGN Blu-ray and the faggots at Screenwave were too cheap to order specialized cases so they got cases with two extra disc holders.

Easy dislike right there.

So is Ryan the boss of Screenwave media? Because I thought it was Justin.

I know Ryan has been around since at least 2013.

Honestly this episode is one of those I like best from James: informative but snarky without relying on bits or over the top grossout humor. I actually didn't know how broken the SNES port was before this video.

The episode starts strong but there isn't much of content here in terms of terribleness.
Its not a bad episode per se but it does feel like a episode made to fulfil the Amazon Video contract. It reminds me of a thought about Caddicarus's newest content where there isnt alot of mileage left in trying to mine content out of the fifth generation and below due to most of it being covered over the last decade. Maybe James should try to delve into the PS2/Xbox shovelware or look at PC Games to find material for new episodes.

The avgn movie was not as terrible as people say. James is pretty likeable even in longform

I think the biggest problem with it was everyone assumed it was going to be a Waynes World/Clerks style "odd guy tries to interact in the real world" type thing, and were annoyed when it ended up being an extended AVGN skit. A good case could be made that they should have expected it to be that, considering that was literally the entire gimmick of the AVGN series, but still. I saw that being used as a reason people thought it sucked.

There's still stuff elsewhere that would make for good reviews. One game I always wanted him to review was Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes of the Lance for NES which is notorious for its extreme difficulty and lots of unfair bullshit. And a common enemy being blue midgets who kick you in the shins. It's the perfect sort of game for an AVGN review and I'm amazed he's never done it in almost 15 years. It would've been a classic episode had he reviewed it back in the day. He could've done a "D&D games" Episode and put it in with Hillsfar (which he did a few years ago) and other shitty/actually good classic D&D games.

I was just expecting a movie and it was just blah. The problem was that it wasn't focused. It just bounced around to random things. Oh look, he's being attacked by zombies, here's CGI where they're jumping in a fire room for some reason. The fuck? Special effects without a story isn't interesting. Fucking George Lucas said this.

I remember some VH1 special, I Love the 90's or whatever it was and Patrice O'neal was calling people in the commercial retards. Wait, I just found it. Thanks YT!

Huge missed opportunity for James not to cover Mortal Kombat Advance, the only game to receive a score of 0.0 from Electronic Gaming Monthly.

I mean I'm kind of flabbergasted he would make a Mortal Kombat episode and not even mention it, I'm pretty sure it was based on MK1, so what gives?

He really should do more with the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era, tons of hilarious crap to cover.

Trouble is that was "after his time" so he's probably simply not familiar with most of the games from that gen even though it's old enough now to be considered retro.

It's true, taken on it's own it isn't that bad, but given the wider context surrounding it is a different story.

For starters it took James years to finish and it just did not live up to all that build up, had he somehow been able to finish it quicker or make it on the down low and it just kinda came out of nowhere you would have been more impressed, but with years of build up that just wasn't the case.

And secondly it killed his momentum on the AVGN episodes that he's never fully recovered ever since, that makes me wish he had never really bothered.

I think what ultimately kills the movie is the fact that he couldn't actually refer to it as E.T. but had to pretend the game was "Eee.Tee." for copyright reasons, that makes it feel very different from an actual episode and just kinda makes the whole thing kinda pointless if he has to pretend it's some fictional version of the game instead of just, ya know, the game.

Also the token black character suuuuuucked, what was the point of that? Pee Wee didn't need a sidekick in Pee Wee's Big Adventure, so why did the Nerd?

The AVGN film was just meh. I don't remember suffering through it like some modern Hollywood films but that's a very low bar to pass. I think the review in the end was the best part, the game ironically wasn't as bad as it was deemed by the public. Kinda ironic considering the film's reception.
I hope in 10 years when Ross Scott releases his film it will be actually decent *sigh*
