Huge missed opportunity for James not to cover Mortal Kombat Advance, the only game to receive a score of 0.0 from Electronic Gaming Monthly.
I mean I'm kind of flabbergasted he would make a Mortal Kombat episode and not even mention it, I'm pretty sure it was based on MK1, so what gives?
James should try to delve into the PS2/Xbox shovelware or look at PC Games to find material for new episodes.
He really should do more with the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era, tons of hilarious crap to cover.
Trouble is that was "after his time" so he's probably simply not familiar with most of the games from that gen even though it's old enough now to be considered retro.
The avgn movie was not as terrible as people say. James is pretty likeable even in longform
It's true, taken on it's own it isn't
that bad, but given the wider context surrounding it is a different story.
For starters it took James years to finish and it just did not live up to all that build up, had he somehow been able to finish it quicker or make it on the down low and it just kinda came out of nowhere you would have been more impressed, but with years of build up that just wasn't the case.
And secondly it killed his momentum on the AVGN episodes that he's never fully recovered ever since, that makes me wish he had never really bothered.
I think what ultimately kills the movie is the fact that he couldn't actually refer to it as E.T. but had to pretend the game was "Eee.Tee." for copyright reasons, that makes it feel very different from an actual episode and just kinda makes the whole thing kinda pointless if he has to pretend it's some fictional version of the game instead of just, ya know, the game.
Also the token black character suuuuuucked, what was the point of that? Pee Wee didn't need a sidekick in Pee Wee's Big Adventure, so why did the Nerd?
