The theory that James is a retarded and naive manchild who got sold by his old pimp to new pimps to be exploited until he's dry... I can see it tbh.

When your employee talks about you like that... And that "Thankfully" speaks volumes.

If you want a retro vidya novelty band for James, those are the members you'd want. The only person worth shit as a musician in Rex Viper is the singer, who should ditch this novelty band ASAP. He's a bit rough, but he'd have potential in a lot of styles of metal where the music could help hide his flaws.

As I've said, most people treat an 80s rock musician trying to do angry reviews of retro vidya as disposable novelty, so why wouldn't they treat an angry retro vidya reviewer trying to do 80s rock the same way?
The singer could and should be in a power metal/NWOTHM act. He has some chops for that style. Having him do "Power of Love" and "Hearts on Fire" in the basic manner they did is like tying lead weights to a race horse. Either adapt the song to his style like Beast in Black did with "No Easy Way Out," or just get a more suitable singer. I'm sure James has some connections thatt could resolve the problem but who even knows if he's in charge here if he isn't with AVGN or Monster Madness.
Never thought I’d say this, but I honestly kinda feel bad for Mike, the spergy little autist. Love him or hate him, he put a lot of work into AVGN, and he was a genuine friend to James. Must suck seeing your best friend completely roll over and die and throw you under the bus in favor of a pack of fat neckbeard faggots content on shitting out mediocre episodes
Mike's presence in a few of those reviews lifted them up to greater heights. He fucked up a bit along the way, but the good years of Cinemassacre wouldn't have been possible without him.
The Carmageddon episode is still stuck on 600k, this is a disaster.

And I presume the podcast won't have guests, right? Only three chairs for James and the two slobs (Tony is apparently not in the team anymore). It's never going to work. The same way Mike was the one who carried J&M Mondays on his shoulders, the failed Rental Reviews were dominated by Tony and his bad jokes and neverending laughter. Now they have no one to keep things moving. James would rather die than discuss anything these days, Kieran is silent 99% of the Time and Justin is a boring fatass.

The channel is fucking dead, lmao.
It's a perfect encapsulation of modern entertainment. There's an ocean of choice picks from the past with a few good blips in the present. I don't need to watch any new AVGN because the old shit that was great still exists digitally and physically, so shame as it is, if it dies, it dies

Lol the way this thread turned around from barely optimistic to outright pessimistic in the span of over a month

Tbf though, I think we're at the point where it should basically be a requirement to quote or show clips from older episodes to remind ourselves of the good times ala Simpsons Griefing Thread

(This season thus far and fan reaction in a nutshell, edited for a more better clip)

Can't believe this video was literally at least a decade old. Felt like it was just only 2-3 years ago.

The Star Wars, ROB the Robot, and Spielberg Games episodes are also ten years old now

He showed us how AVGN episodes were made ten years ago this month

Sadly, next month will mark a decade since the show began its long road to mediocrity with Kid Kool and Nintendo World Championships (both episodes I actually enjoy, but not as much as the earlier episodes)

I think I started bowing out of watching him around the Tiger Handheld games episode. That was the last one I felt was truly good. Geez, been almost 8 years now. I’ve checked back in sporadically but with very few exceptions (Earthbound) he’s been on a steady decline
I still found myself rewatching several episodes from 2014, he was still alright then.

2015 episodes were decent, though not as strong as 2014.

2016 was a very good year for AVGN, having celebrated 10 years of the show being on YouTube (save for the Sega Activator episode)

2017 was where I think the show started to fall off, with him doing to show monthly instead to taking breaks between episodes, but I still think was the last season that was at least above average.

2018... I just don't find rewatchable, other than Earthbound and CD32.

2019 had more rewatchable episodes than the previous year, but it was becoming increasingly obvious that someone else was writing the scripts for some of these episodes.

2020 only has episodes that are somewhat rewatchable, but not in large quantities; it had become clear than Screenwave had been behind many of these newer episodes.

2021, so far in my opinion, is only slightly better than the previous year (by virtue of having episodes that are at the very most inoffensive)... but I have to admit I think James just only barely cares about the show now. He can still put out good episodes of the show (going back to Darkman and 3DO carmaggedon 64 is still not that bad), but between the excess amounts of skits in these videos and how dry the jokes are, it all but shows he's beyond burnt out from doing AVGN.

I think the reason 2021 hasn't been all that great, and what could explain the rushed quality of some of the episodes this year, is that the 200th episode is coming soon, and that he's just throwing whatever episodes he can to get to that number. Hopefully then, he'll either partially retire the show so he can work on other projects, or at least put it on hiatus so he can accomplish the same goal.

The Spawn review is a perfect example of the degradation of AVGN.

It's so goddamn over-produced.

And why are they having AVGN listlessly spout off all this info about the world and characters of Spawn? I don't believe for a second that James Rolfe knows a goddamn thing about who Billy Kincaid from the Spawn comics is.

Just review the games. In the old days they didn't feel the need to give you background on Spiderman or whatever when they reviewed a Spiderman game.

Billy Kincaid is a morbidly obese pedophile/child killer from a well connected family.

Justin Silverman is James’ producer, a morbidly obese man from a well connected family who looks like a pedophile

Maybe James does know a thing or two about Spawn villains

God that was bad but it got worse when started to review whatever was in his line of site.

Mechanical eraser? He's got you covered.

I don't think James will get this desperate.

Edit: Walking by my DVD shelf I noticed my CGR DVD's. I really like the first one about the original 90's show Mark did with Dave, but thinking back, like James and his "films" Mark really overplays the value of what he and Dave did back then. I can't imagine many youtubers were aware of fromusalive.com in 1999.
James never shit on his audience like Mark Bussler constantly did near the end of his career. James also had enough sense to adapt to the times while Mark suffered from a terminal case of entitled youtuber syndrome, constantly blaming the algorithm for not recommending his low effort videos or shitty 3rd grade quality comic. I think Mark makes videos out of pure spite at this point because he clearly isn't enjoying it and nobody is watching them. His channel serves as a good example of how to completely alienate your audience.

Here's a incomplete list of things you can do to kill your channel:
* "Quit" youtube 3 different times due his perception that his channel was singled out by "changes in the algorithm" despite higher quality retro video game channels like LGR or GameSack thriving at the same time.
* Had a Patreon, released a very low effort "show" on Amazon prime anyways that you had to pay for. Failed after one season.
* Renamed and rebranded at least 4 times in the last 3 years of activity, had a phase where he would only post literal advertisements for his merch and comics for months.
* Ended CGR Undertow even though the content was more popular than his own.
* Passive aggressively shit on his fans at every opportunity, even going as far as to show the fan beloved Truxton arcade cabinet being sold off on social media.
* Pawned off every fan donated item on the show.
* Decided to become a stationary reviewer for some reason.
* During the comic book phase, released a teaser to celebrate the 20th anniversary of CGR. It was another ad for his shitty comic.
* Comes off as very bitter in rare interviews. Turned off comments and likes because he is allergic to criticism.
* Has terrible money management, rented an office and warehouse for a youtube show that gets about 10k viewers a video, claims it's impossible to make a living off of youtube.

Mark from Classic Game Room - Not So Common Podcast #30.png

There's a lot of behind the scenes reasons why CGR ended but they all can be distilled down to Mark Bussler's poor management and lack of effort. I could kinda see an alternate universe James going down this path if Mike had left a lot earlier.

I can barely remember what the fuck happened in the Spawn review.

All of the Spawn games are shit, him simping for Spawn: Armageddon and comparing it to Devil May Cry in the end was fucking embarassing. It's like James has developed shit taste for anything that was produced after the SNES.

That's assuming James even played the game. It was most likely one of the Screenwave slobs who loves the game so they made that AVGN also loved the game as well. James barely does anything for AVGN except for voiceovers and occasional on camera appearance.
