Last I remember he was undergoing radiotherapy, which is typically the first treatment option outside of wait & see, and typically folks aren't on their way out until multiple rounds of chemo have failed. Lymphoma usually wins in the end, but it takes 12-14 years on average to reap it's victims, and the average age people die of it is ~73.

Yeah, that explanation could suffice to a point. But interest in JF was not as intense or long-standing as interest in Ralph. And nobody perceived Jim was avoiding the JFQ based on some personal dynamic.
