The "curing salt" method is somewhat popular because it's harder to get anything better in terms of accessibility, the general public have no chance in hell in obtaining what they use in Switzerland at their clinics for example. But from what I have read (out of curiosity, not of need), you need to take benzos and an antiemetic or it isn't so "peaceful".
The thing that got me was the mask hooked up to an aerosol can though. That wasn't needed, it felt to me like he did that as a backup, or he was missing a component.
If you want something less torturous, should have gone with nitrogen. Would have taken less time to carry it out. Plus it's a method starting to be used in executions.
You're not wrong with nitrogen, but going through the process of transportation with a dewar is the least convenient thing ever compared to using a small bag of sodium nitrite.
