Given how awful Netflix translations are for anime, what are the chance the disc release of Stone Ocean will re-translate from scratch? Or maybe the Japanese side will provide their own subs to Netflix? What are the chances of that?
PLEASE RESPOND, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT

I recently decided to read the manga having watched the animes a while ago.

What's the general opinion of Stone Ocean? It's honestly my least favourite so far. I don't know, the characters, stands, overall story were all a bit meh and didn't really grab me.

I'm about 10 chapters into Steel Ball Run and really liking it so far though. Hoping it's an improvement on the Jolyne arc.

Stone ocean is considered pretty low in terms of ranking Jojo parts. Not the worst, but certainly not the best. I tend to conclude its a very poor plot with some great characters (Jolyne is top tier jojo) that unfortunately doesn't really raise it above an overall meh story.

Steel Ball Run is almost unanimously considered to be Araki's magnum opus and the greatest of the Jojo parts. You will enjoy it.

As for Jojolion (I know you didn't ask, but your going to read it eventually), there are a lot of people on this board who I think are way too forgiving of it, but I personally think it might just be the worst part in Jojo, even worse than part 1. Won't explain why, but you will see when reading it.

Steel Ocean at least until very recently ago had the title of "Least Liked Part". People complain about many things, theres the usual Araki Forgots and nonsense powers, but also the "retconning" of Dio's character and the claim that the main cast is weak and forgettable. Being a fan of it myself, Jolyne being top 3 JoJos in my book, I cant only play devils advocate here.

Im expecting the anime will turn lots of opinions around on it, as it did with Part 5, but only time will tell. I think it gets a bad rep partly because people speed read through it to get to Part 7, which is mostly agreed upon as being "The Best Part".

Stone Ocean has a lot of objectively stupid shit in it. Pucci isn’t all that compelling of a main villain (aside from the highly memable quality of his main motivation being to make a baby with Dio’s bone), the minor antagonists range from forgettable to total shit, and the stand fights aren’t really that great. But Jolyne carries the entire part for me. She’s my favorite Jojo (tied with Joseph, to be fair) and Stone Free is by far my favorite Joestar stand, because it’s such a simple concept that has endless applications. Is it used in kinda bullshit ways sometimes? Yeah, but nothing will ever beat the C-moon fight where Jolyne turns her body into a Möbius strip to counter C-moon’s inverting punch. I saw that shit coming from a mile away and I fucking loved it, because being able to actually predict a logical application of powers is a rarity in Jojo.

I think part of it is also that it comes after Part 5, which is very much the anti-Part 6 for me. Part 5 had an excellent main cast, an excellent villain cast, and excellent stand fights, but Giorno and Gold Experience dragged the whole story down. Giorno has no personality and is the worst Jojo by a long shot, because even Jonathan at least has a personality, bland as it may be.

I really like Pucci. He got so hung up on that vampire dick he dedicated 20+ years of his life to the stupid Heaven Plan and made it work. It may be my memory acting up or my rose tinted glasses, but Id say hes one of the smartest Jojo villains, framing Jolyne for murder just so he can get her ass to prison as Jotaro bait, taking care of him straight away so he doesnt mess up with the plans this time. Using his prison powers to try and get rid of people and also power up the dio baby bone. He also doesnt take any fucking chances during that final battle, nigga is just throwing shit and running away for cover, unlike Dio who stops to talk everytime. Dude's dedicated you gotta give him that, motherfucker fuses himself with a demon baby to get gravity power and thats only the halfway point of his plan.

I won't argue with you about the minor antagonists tho. If anything I'll say I remember their stands more than their actual names. For example, I thought the Jailhouse Rock arc was pretty dope, but I cant for the life of me remember a single thing about the stand user.

Bruno will always be the main character of part 5 in my head. Hes the one with the backstory and the motivation. Giorno wants to be a gang star for the lulz of it and because hes got a good heart and what not, get that Angel Dust off the streets Black Dynamite style.

Why is Part 1 so unpopular? It's probably my second favorite part after Stardust.

Part 4, minus the post "Bites the Dust" chapters/episodes are my least favorite.
No Stands, Araki still finding out how he works best with serial stories, Jonathan, Dio and Speedwagon are the only memorable characters and Jonathan's lack of moral edge compared to the other Jojos can make him "boring."

This may be a cardinal sin in Jojo fandom, but I find Hamon far more interesting than stands. I also like the vampire plot more than the alien arrow shit.

But I definitely see where you're coming from, the only character I "liked" was Zepelli.

One of the things I laughed out loud at was FF's "healing". I know the reason for it - you want to up the ante and decapitate people or whatever but at the same time have a get out of jail free card. It worked with Josuke's ability and to a lesser extent Giorno but FF was just ridiculous. Oh yeh bro let me just plug up your wounds with plankton. :story: Jolyne stitching shit together made a bit more sense.

Might be controversial then but Part 4 might be my favourite so far (though I've only just started Steel Ball Run). The characters can be a bit hit and miss and Josuke probably isn't top tier JoJo waifu but I just really like the smaller Morioh setting, the stands were pretty creative and interesting and Kira was straight pimp. Dude just wants to live a quiet life, clip his nails and occasionally choke bitches. Can't hate on that.

I think in some ways its even more ridiculous in 7. Gyro's feet is straight up gone and he puts it back together with the Zombie Horse, and it seens that every other chapter theyre getting shot in the head multiple times. Creamstarter is supposed to be made of meat only, always bugged me how the fuck they heal bones and other tissues so fast. Its way harder for me to maintain my suspension of disbelief when the healing isnt done by a straight up "healer Stand" like Crazy Diamond.

Kira does a lot to elevate Part 4 IMO. Hes the perfect answer to Dio. You go from a villain who wants Heaven to a villain who just wants to be left the fuck alone with his hands. Id say the part itself is pretty good overall. The slice of life stuff works and there are many great characters, its just that Kira wraps up all the stories and themes very well.

Also its got my favorite ending from the animation. Bringing back all the previous performers to do a final version of Great Days is pure kino

Part 4 is definitely my favorite, but it’s going to hinge entirely on whether you like or hate the slow slice of life stuff that make up the first half of the story. Objectively, the pacing IS very slow, especially before Kira shows up (and it’s pretty slow even after they start chasing him). Whether or not this bothers you, and if so to what degree, is gonna be up to personal taste, because personally I loved it but I can understand why it wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste.

Also, Part 4 has one of the few non-bullshit ending fights. Josuke wins fair and square by actually outsmarting Kira, and by the time he gets Isekai Ambulance’d he’s effectively already been defeated and is unable to fight.

Part 6 used to be looked at poorly but it's more divisive since some people rank it more highly (myself included) while others dislike it. It doesn't help there is a sizeable portion of people who read Part 6 that just wanted to get to Part 7 more quickly.

For me personally, Part 6 is in my top 3 (the other two being Parts 4 and 7) because it is very interesting and the Prison setting and Florida are pretty fun to me. Jolyne and Pucci probably carry the part as they are the most compelling characters of Part 6 (with Jolyne being my favorite Jojo) and it has a lot of weird shit that is fun. It does get really weak for me in the middle section where there is the Dragon's Dream and Yo-Yo Ma fights (I hope these get trimmed down in anime), and the minor antagonists are not as memorable as Part 5's with a very mixed range of bad to good (the best ones being the last two of Dio's sons). It's not for everyone though and in manga it has some nice little details that you can catch on reread (which I'm doing now).

Steel Ball Run however is the magnum opus of Araki since it is really well drawn with lots of great panels and has a lot of really great character interactions along with having one of the best dynamics between a Jojo and his Jobro in the series. It also has probably the best main villain in the series (though it sorta teeters between him and Kira) and some amazing fights.

For Jojolion, all I'm going to say is that it's first half is great but it goes on a steady decline in the second half.

Is Jojo Gold Experience ever coming to Netflix? Given all the other seasons plus the new one will be on it.
