Jon Stewart will return to ‘The Daily Show’ as host — just on Mondays​

Comedian Jon Stewart is rewinding the clock, returning to “The Daily Show” as a weekly host and executive producing through the 2024 U.S. elections cycle.

Comedy Central on Wednesday said Stewart will host the topical TV show, the perch he ruled for 16 years starting in 1999, every Monday starting Feb. 12. A rotating lineup of show regulars are on tap for the rest of the week.

“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement. “In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”

Over the years, “The Daily Show” — first hosted by Craig Kilborn, then Stewart and Trevor Noah — has skewered the left and right by making the media a character and playing it absolutely straight, no matter how ridiculous.

I decided to check Comedy Central's schedule to see how accurate this is. It's literally just Futurama, South Park, Seinfeld and The Office on endless repeat.

LOL I remember circa 1993 when Comedy Central was monthly repeats of Back To School at prime time (and monthly repeats of other comedies you'd seen about a billion times), repeats of the Kids in the Hall at 9 or 10, Absolutely Fabulous at 11. MST3K in the afternoon, Stand-Up Stand-Up with Laura KIKElinger around 6..... annnnnddddd....that was it. They tried to break out with some other experimental comedy troupe stuff like The Vacant Lot.

Comedy Central's big debut was 1989 with Politically incorrect with Bill Mauer. Again, like Stevward, he was a failed comedian (Amazon Women on the Moon) who decided to rebrand himself with political 'humor' to somehow become relevant, and we've never seen the end of him since.

Whats funny, is that John libowitz is mostly an empty suit reading off whatever slop his writers hand him, there was a noticeable drop in quality when the older writers started leaving forever ago.

Take note that this is during prime time. It's understandable that they'll run old South Park reruns at 3 in the morning, but goddamn, I can remember a time when I couldn't even keep up with everything CC was running. Literally the only thing for the next 3 days that isn't one of the four mentioned shows is a single Jeff Dunham comedy special that I'm pretty sure they're also playing on repeat. Nice to see some things never change, I remember him being egregiously overplayed when I was back in high school.

Netflix came and essentially ate Comedy Central's lunch. They paid more money for comedy specials with less restrictions so all of the new specials that came out were Netflix exclusive.

Those same comics would go to Netflix instead of Comedy Central for their projects too (aka F is for Family, Big Mouth, etc) so CC really lost out on a previously uncontested content stream.

Jon Stewart has skewered claims that Donald Trump’s multi-million dollar fraud was a “victimless crime.”

The former president’s New York fraud case has been branded as an incident with no victims, particularly by commentators on Fox News.


The Shark Tank judge Kevin O’Leary even declared that everything Mr Trump was found liable for in the civil fraud case “is done by every real estate developer everywhere on Earth in every city. This has never ever been prosecuted.”


“Leave it to Kevin O’Leary to be unaware enough to say the quiet part out loud,” Stewart responded incredulously on The Daily Show.

“There is a theory in law that if enough people commit a crime, it automatically becomes legal. You’re familiar with The Purge, are you not?” Stewart joked before saying, “The f****** entitled arrogance.”

A judge has ordered Mr Trump to pay $464m for a decade-long scheme in which prosecutors alleged he falsely inflated the values of Trump Organisation assets to obtain loans.


“It was all part of a very sophisticated real estate practice known as ‘lying’,” Stewart joked.

The one-term president was ordered to pay the multi-million fraud bond by Monday but a panel of state Appellate Division judges unexpectedly granted him a 10-day extension to pay just $175m of the total judgment.

Despite the ruling, many have come forward in support of the former president, and people such as Mr O’Leary even questioned on CNN, “Who’s next?” after the ruling “didn’t go over very well with the investment community.”
