Does he get any royalties from any of the other comics he worked on? If so, I can’t imagine it’s much. Had he not sued Sega, he probably would still be able to get some freelance work

I assume he gets some money on commissions or something? I've known guys who could apply themselves and hustle up a decent living in the house his parents died in type existence
the theoretical existence of wife and grandkid makes me wonder if it's like Frank Wu or something?
or he's just cashing in his mom's Social Security and full Norman Bates while lying about the family like the Kit n Kay Boodle guy

I'm pretty sure, most of what he's worked on is out of print, so he probably doesn't get royalties from anything.

I really hope he tries to sue, it would be the best lolsuit on this forum.

Penders has always interested me because he is literally Chris Chan if he were successful-ish in life and actually got to work on Sonic related material.

As I understand, it is mostly the Knuckles side story comics that contain the myriad echidna variations he came up with and aren't canon anymore. None of the stories, concepts or versions of the characters originated from the Archie days or the SatAM are allowed to be used in any fashion under Sega's directive to make any new media like games, animation, etc precisely because Ken lawsuit made all that legacy content radioactive. This is why a lot of fans despise him. You got to remember that this asshole sued BioWare over Sonic Chronicles claiming that the echidna characters in the game were based on "his" creations while at Archie. Nevermind the fact that all the echidnas he came up with were derivative variations on the original Knuckles design by Sega.

It cannot be understated just how much of an insane cluster fuck was the Archie lawsuit an how much damage and repercussions it caused.

Ken's incredibly tenuous argument is that he owns the "25 years later" versions of these characters, and if he changes their names, he can keep pretending he's making something new. But I think deep down he knows he's on incredibly shaky ground and will get slapped if he tries anything.

The SATAM gang belong 100% to Sega. As do any characters created after the first Archie comics reboot. Sega just doesn't give a shit about the syndicated cartoon, SATAM, Sonic underground, Sonic X, or the Boom TV series. Penders' Bullshit isn't helping, but Sega already didn't care much about their spinoff shit before all that went down.

If he tries to make NFTs out of his obvious knockoff characters -- one of the NFTs he's gonna do is "Green Knuckles" -- they WILL take him to court and he WILL lose. There isn't a court in the land that would accept "It's Mickey Mouse, only blue. It's my original character, and Disney can't say anything about it."

he is only drawing more attention onto himself. Sooner or later he is going to slip up big time. It’s going to be the biggest mistake he will ever done in his life that can’t be undone.
 
Every time I see Ken's ""art"" I forget he still exists and think it's a gag. I have no idea what could be wrong with your brain to draw things to genuinely grotesque. It's like if you understood basic artistic concepts but still hold things with your whole fist and were also a furry.

It is not contested whether or not the ownership of the SatAM belongs to Sega, it is the fact that those characters bleed over to the Archie series were Ken participated and he started putting his grubby hands all over them. (ew) I have no doubt that with the success the Sonic movies, Sega would love to create additional media as new animated series or even reboots of the older SatAM series, specially considering how nostalgia driven is the current pop culture landscape. But Sega simply wants to avoid any association to those older characters precisely because of the Ken lawsuit. Hell, the entire Archie comic continuity was altered with an incredibly contrived "Super Genesis Wave" plot just to get rid of all of Ken's characters and story lines and make the new plot more focused on the games.

It is utterly absurd once you start dissecting some of the details of which characters he ended up walking away with. Sally Acorn belongs to Sega but Ken owns Alicia Acorn (literally Sally's doppelganger mother, because he "created her") :stress: WHAT!?

Look at the stink Ken is raising on Twitter over Knuckles, that for him is enough to claim infringement on his ideas despite the fact there is nothing in common between the movie and his stories except perhaps the words "echidna" and "father".

Ken Penders was a former writer for the Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles the Echidna comic series who, in the fall of 2010, filed a lawsuit against Archie Comics to obtain the rights to his characters and concepts.[1]
