Going heavy on le current year, although they did that with the Beavis and Butthead continuation too. Dale vaping and Bill getting doordash is pretty funny. I guess Arlen will lose that small town feel but that was kinda already happening in the late seasons.
Hank looks so miserable in current year I kind of feel it would have been more merciful to have Hank die in 2008.

Especially since Laotians have been oppressed for centuries by people with Lauren Tom's Chinese ethnicity.
Yeah I posted that before I heard the news. That they caved to the "only asians can play asians" in the current year. (Unless you're Phil Lamarr apparently) Definitely not a good sign for this reboot... I don't even particularly like Toby Huss, it's just that he *is* Khan. There's no reason to recast him, and any time a cartoon has recast a long standing character for racial reasons it's ended up sounding worse for it.

I know, even if I wanted it to be good, that it'll be some shitty current thing™ slop.
Mike Judge successfully managed to get Beavis and Butt-Head rebooted whilst lowkey calling out current thing™ slop (see "white privilege" from Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe). I'm cautiously optimistic that the KotH reboot will be at least watchable, assuming Judge has sufficient creative control.

Except for Arif Zahir, whose Cleveland Brown voice sounds exactly the same a Mike Henry's on account of Arif streaming as Cleveland for years before the Summer of Love.

That's a better replacement than most, but it still sounds noticeably worse the original, and there was no reason for a recast.

You must have better ears than I, as Arif sounds identical to Mike Henry to me.

It would be super weird if instead of a linear timeline it suddenly just took place in 2025.
The show has never had a linear timeline. In thirteen seasons the characters didn't age a full year despite moving forward in time each season. Realistically for the show to debut in the mid-90s and now be in 2025, Bobby would have to be in his mid-40s and the adults would have to be in their seventies.

Like most adult animation the timeline is already screwed up beyond repair, they aren't going to try and fix it now all of a sudden.

And Bill looks very happy and content with the ease of gluttony in the modern era, which is very fitting. Never forget what he said to Boomhauer once in Season 6 back in 2002:
"Look at me, Boomhauer. I'm fat, and I'm old, and every day I'm just going to wake up fatter and older. Yet somehow I manage to drag this fat old bald bastard out into the alley every day. I'm out there, digging holes, falling into them, climbing out, trying again."
If they make an episode where he's a lolcow, I hope they use this for inspiration:

I thought B&B's 2nd revival was pretty good and Mike Judge hasn't lost a beat with his humor. But seeing as how he's going to be more involved with this revival than the later seasons of KOTH's original run - after 5th season he lessoned his influence - that makes me very optimistic.
I agree, but nobody is perfect. Case in point: The Goode Family

The crazy thing about that show is it had people complaining about pronouns and obnoxious characters identifying as non binary otherkin for attention way the fuck back in 2009, way before any of that shit escaped containment at Tumblr and became mainstream

The voice itself is pretty good. But there's something subtly different about the delivery and not for the better. That guy would have been an ok replacement if Mike Henry had died or something, but there was no reason to replace him with "Close enough (but worse)" just because he's black and Mike Henry is white.

I'll have to pay more attention to later episodes of FG, as I haven't picked up on the subtleties of Arif vs Mike.

I was just going off of that video. I haven't watched an episode of FG in years. One would assume he got better once he started doing it professionally, but it was still an unnecessary switch to begin with.

Depended where you lived. If you were in an uber liberal county, that mindset you saw in the show did indeed exist, especially right around the time of Obama's victory in 08. I say this because I sadly was in a liberal county in HS in mid 2000s. Those seeds were planted well in advance.

The only reason I think this reboot might be good is because I have faith in Mike Judge still, I don't think he really gives a shit about all of the political nonsense [on either end of the spectrum] and will likely shit on both ends. The whole 'we can't let a white dude do an Asian guy's voice!' shit is retarded but that's just how the industry is at the moment, it'll probably start to shift back to regularity on a much slower timetable than most other things but it eventually will.

That's pretty much on the money. If I remember right, Mike said in an interview at one point that Hank would've hated both Trump and Hillary in the 2016 election. (And I imagine he would've hated Trump vs Biden even more in the 2020s.)

With the age thing everyone is supposed to be 8 years older. Bobby turned 12 in season 1 and later turned 13. I don't think Hank has a real stated age but the wiki says he's 41. So he might have started off as 40. This will make Hank 49 in the reboot. We already know Bobby is 21. Hank would now be a late Gen X rather than a Boomer and Bonny would be a Gen Z rather than a millennial. The original series would also canonly take place in 2017 if this is set in 2025. Could be worse. 2025 homer is about 1990 Maggies age.

Peggy would be all for Hilary but Hank yeah he wouldn't vote for both. Trump is the antithesis of everything he stands for and hes from NYC. I don't really see any of the Arlen cast voting for those two, maybe Bill votes Hilary because a woman he met and has taken a liking to is voting for her.
