I'm a heavy smoker and I've always been careful to clean out my systems regularly, including my iMacs just because I know how bad it can get.

But the paint thing yea, not to power level but I worked IT for a period of time in a plant that had spray booths that also had computers in them and even if they where sealed for spark prevention paint finds it's way everywhere and kills the system (you do find the odd trooper that keeps going caked in 2 decades of paint) these booths ran 24/7 47 weeks of the year that still had to have regular cleaning that where designed to be in that environment, paint's like Cobes uses build up fast even as dry particulate.

Oddly having thought about it my Mac's always keep on trucking, I gave one of my old iMac's to my cousin who smokes and never cleans his systems out and I swapped out the HDD for him and the filters where clogged, and the fan had stains from backkie but it kept going but he is a fairly light user Browser and a text editor no heavy lifting so that's why Cobes system lasted so long.

Josh's iMac still boots, but only boots into Recovery Mode. He seems to have an error in the OS on the HDD. These types of things can be caused by something as little as abruptly unplugging the computer, which has happened to be during a power outage, requiring an entire OS reinstall.

Can't you just download MacOS from Apple and swap the HDD?
Is Cobra scared of opening up the machine? I mean he has an unusual amount of respect for things he doesn't know much about.

That normally means a File system issue, you can fix that easy with a mac, well more so easy than a windows system. Alt shift and select the MacOS volume repair Filesystem 95% of the time it boots perfectly post check, OSX is more likely to flake over bad RAM than it is Disk issues.

The worst file system I've ever had on a Mac was relating to a NTFS formatted memory stick and I could fix that using the Disk Utillity and repair volume, I copied the data off and then formatted the USB stick and copied the data back and it's worked flawlessly for the last few years.

Josh knows he sucks at computers, same as working on vehicles, and plumbing for some reason. These all in one iMac screens are well known for being an absolute bitch to open up from the screen side, which is often the side you have to go through to do much of anything. With Linus Techtip even fucking up theirs and being told by Apple simply, "No we are not selling you a screen, buy a new one".

All I know is that he kept going into the Recovery mode GUI on Courtney's stream, only for something to happen and it reboots or he rebooted it. We only got moments of looking at his screen so who knows. Of course Josh has zero ability to verbalize his problem, even less ability to listen.
