Definitely, there really aren't that many people below the poverty line in Casper. It's not super wealthy but it's not poor either, really seems very middle class and working class.

Oh yeah, I remember the Montana Meth Project from back in the day. Wyoming's in the perfect spot as a major distribution hub for drugs...tons of temporary labor and freight traffic, small population and limited police resources.

I think the rural places just strike people as a surprise, but in actuality are economically depressed and have high rates of unemployment in smaller populations. It is the same reason places like Tennessee and Kentucky are known for drug issues.

Part of me thinks that it's a culture of minding your own business. As long as you're not affected, who cares who gets high? That becomes more difficult in a place like Detroit where crime is unavoidable and the sheer concentrated amount of junkies means you can't escape being robbed or violently assaulted at least a few times a year. In a place like Wyoming a junkie is more likely to sell shit he stole from Walmart on facebook like Scrapper Steve does then engage in outright violent behavior.

A lot of it is just practical I think. Cocaine is too expensive to bring in for the size of that market and economic base and crack was never really popular outside of a short period in the 80s and 90s. Even then it had the stigma of a dangerous ghetto drug so there wasn't a big market in most places.

With meth if you've got the knowledge, equipment and precursor chemicals you can make it pretty much anywhere. Rural areas are far better for both safety and concealment purposes, and the demand for stimulants is there so it sort of all falls into place. It's bad enough if a meth lab blows up but it's a lot worse if you take out the apartment building or some children waiting for the bus in the explosion.

Supply met demand and the rest is history.

Casper is booming, people are moving there in droves because it's a really great place to live. Just look at how fucked the real estate market is there. The redditors seem to revel in not just their hate of josh but their hate of the interior of the US with it, as if there's no reason to even be there and the people stuck there are poor and or addicted to meth or opiates etc. Josh is an abnormality in the town, there are probably thousands of people exactly like him in a single suburb of LA that simply dont put themselves on youtube.

One huge blow to cobras content re: him being an alcoholic shut-in these days is that you no longer see the sights of Casper or the natural beauty of Wyoming that you used to get when he'd go outside. Shit like that soda shoppe that's been in business for a century and the mountains and everything. I think that stuff is interesting

This shirt was Down The Hill Dave's idea. He stopped by off camera when Josh was "designing" shirts, he came up with it, and Josh apparently thought it was funny too.


Casper isn't bad, I agree, we're seeing it through the eyes of lowest class. It seems like a mid-sized city that is great if you enjoy the outdoors and don't want to live in a larger city that has all the good that comes with the bad like Denver.
