Cobra was a bad employee who the management was probably happy for an excuse to fire. Even if we accept the premise that evil troles got him fired, if that's true, that should have been a turning point where he realized that being a dancing monkey on Youtube wasn't good for him and stopped doing it. Instead he quit even trying to pretend to do anything respectable or worthwhile and leaned fully into being an Internet retard and let it consume his entire life. So that's most definitely on Josh, not on the heckin' troles.

This notion that parents are entirely responsible for their mentally disabled or mentally ill children just doesnt hold water when those children were relatively fine before the internet started fucking with them. I agree Clint isn't totally responsible because Josh himself has agency, not because of le troles. Admittedly I think it is clear that Josh is a literal retard to a large extent and thus has less agency than a normal person. In the interview at one point Clint recounted how when Josh turned 18 and became a legal adult it led to 2 years of hell as Josh fully abused his legal privilege to be a complete fucking idiot at every possible turn. Then towards the end Clint explains why he made that decision and didn't go down the route of keeping legal guardianship over Cobes, without ever making the connection back to the earlier segment about how obviously disastrous it was to let Josh actually make any of his own decisions.

The whole not brushing his teeth for a decade plus until they're literally rotting out of their head proves by itself that Clint made the wrong call on that, never mind considering the myriad other ways Josh's life is a total disaster. I think Clint's notion that if he tried to actually improve his son Cobra would just cut him out and go homeless might be correct, but that's only the case because Clint gave him that much rope to hang himself with in the first place. I think it's indicative of Clint's overall state of delusion about Josh. He is well meaning and wants to hope for the best but can't see the situation for what it really is.

In hindsight I think it's totally undeniable that Josh should have never been given legal adult status and ultimately he does belong in some kind of group home or institution, if he wouldn't be able to continue living with family. Clint knew just how mentally disabled Josh is and still made the decision to give him the legal authority to drink himself to death. I don't really hold any animus towards any of these people it's just a tragic situation all around IMO. And a fascinating dumpster fire to observe from a safe distance of course.

Then it hit me — he uses him like a fucking prop.

Cobes gives him excuse to talk about himself, the trials about raising the tard’, and tries reasoning how this all fucking fell apart. It’s clear he’s always talked like Josh was helpless, trying his ohh so best, and people were just fucking with him — even though Clint was trying his best.

The way he talked about cobes like he wasn’t in the room when he was sitting right next to him rubbed me the wrong way. It’s such a demeaning way to treat anybody let alone your child.
