He'll never drink something "healthier" because he doesn't like the taste of alcohol. The sugar and the additives is to mask the alcohol. Whenever he's had any type of alcohol without it being sugary swill he's grimaced, coughed, gagged and drooled everywhere because of the alcohol taste and burn. I wish I could find it but he once received a fan care package with some weed infused tequila or vodka and he'd take a shot and just hold it in his mouth, gathering the courage to swallow and when he finally did he swallow he'd look like a toddler being tricked into trying lemon for the first time.

Being sober and confronting the state of his life and his many failures would destroy him.

I think he’d ultimately be more miserable if he was forced into sobriety and tard wrangled into being some degree of productive. He’s carved out an identity for himself and regardless of how everybody else might see it, he derives a sense of pride from it. He’s the goth bad boy YouTuber who makes wands and sells music. Why would he want to give up that for crippling anxiety, a job he hates and the burden of responsibility.

If he was made to be sober and sent to work, I don’t think he’d be plagued by regrets, he’d just resent the rules and restrictions being imposed on him.

Clint has managed to find a balance where he can kind of keep his Son out of absolute disaster situations without alienating him. He can nudge him in the right direction but push too much and it’ll just cause Josh to reject him altogether.
