It's because most people treat vTubing like how Americans treat animation - it's a medium, not a genre. Some people are convinced if you aren't the right kind of vTuber, your 'audience' doesn't count. Or alternatively, they can't "see" how you get your audience because they expect them all to be like the "adult teletubbies" audience for FuwaMoco or some shit (No offense to the dogs). But in Kirsche's case, it's all 25-35 year old working men if I remember right. Kirsche is the "High school friend you shoot the shit with while drinking in a bar watching football" experience. I'm pretty sure in the world of vTubing her viewer demographics are probably pretty unique. And because people have it in their mind the vTuber audience is a hyper specific thing, they just don't see it coming.Honestly I'm just taken aback at the fact he thinks this is some kind of coordinated conspiracy by "wealthy donors" or people somehow giving her money that doesn't exist, as opposed to her fans just being adults with disposable income and the controversies giving her more views.
Kirsche's fans consistently punch above their weight in terms of support. Her code moved more sales for Crime Boss than regular steam sales did, a fact so impressive they directly told her about it.
Or hell, look at Gamersupps. She reached over 60% of the orders needed to get her own flavor in a single merch run, something creators like 10 times her size get. All of her merch drops perform above and beyond expectations on a regular basis, her making money isn't some sudden magical vibe change.
