Even though that looks great as fuck, but I have problems with 4.12. I get no loading window and it starts with a black screen. I assume you don't have these issues.

But if that's the only way you can make it work then there's no option.
That's really weird. Have you tried defaulting your config and switching it between OpenGL/Vulkan?
 
If anyone is having problems to install GZDoom on Linux, I'll recommend installing the Freedoom launcher from Lutris, which contains GZDoom already. Some people couldn't install using the AUR due to a weird ZMusic dependency.

Anyways it'd be nice if we could ensure that 4.12.x is a reasonable version requirement. I could try to implement the old way of doing animations but decoupled animation feature is very convenient.

I'll fuck around with it tomorrow, and in worst case I'll grab a dev version.

I'm pretty sure I linked 4.12 in the op and nobody has said a thing, so it's likely no problem.
 
I skimmed the thread so rate me ⏰ if this has already been covered, but has there been any discussion of custom monsters or replacement monsters from the lolcows? The Ralphamale would make a fine mancubus, and Rioley in his wheelchair with clips from his spergout about sucking dick for cock might make for a good pinkie/spectre.

A thread was created HERE which contains several custom kiwi farms assets. I believe its already organized into an asset wad for the project, but I see no reason why you couldn't create a wheelchair tranny as a pinky replacement, it would be brilliant, especially given the fact pinkies are so easy to dodge.

I love Doom and I love KF so even though I really don't know much about building Doom maps properly (I only messed around making a few silly unfinished maps in the passed for fun) I cannot miss this opportunity.

Couldn't test my wads using the Ultimate Doom Builder, instead I used:
wine gzdoom.exe -iwad doom2.wad -file [filename].wad
Everytime I want to play my custom wad. It's not the best option, but it works.

There's already a Gunt monster in, but for adding a new one? No, unless you do it yourself. It's a huge task to make sprites for monsters. Even joke ones. The exception is @CrunkLord420s chuds. But they are 3d models.

I did one. It's my very first map so it's not too good.
I liked it. It has the simple 90s feel. But some feedback:
  • Are you sure you don't want to spend more time on it? You have over 50 days left...
  • The huge rooms could use some detailing and light contrasts.
  • You could use some trims between different wall textures.
  • The walkway over the puzzle floor is missing side textures.
  • Some doors side texture are not unpegged, meaning the wall texture moves up and down with the door.
  • The exit could use an exit sign.
Else, good amount of health/ammo. Good traps. You had to put yourself in danger to get ammo. Very nice use of glow in the outside part. Good use of the KF assets. 👌
I don't get the cybos since you and they can't shoot each other, but it was a cute detail.

Like I said, spend some more time detailing it and it will be a great short map.

Everytime I want to play my custom wad. It's not the best option, but it works.
Without seeing the error, I guess it's because the IWADS must be in the GZDoom folder when testing. Don't know why.
 
Yeah I'll go back and tweak it a bit some time soon. The cage with tiny cyberdemons was just me fucking with enemy sizes. Its the manlet cage.

You can use middle textures to write text via text textures (ALPHA 1 - 8 ) and write manlet cage over it by placing a linedef first and splitting it up into parts.

In this example, each letter is 8 map units wide. The linedef is 1 map unit away from the wall and the midtexture text is hovering by adjusting the height. This took me about 2 minutes. All you have to do is hold shift in 3D mode and move each letter with arrow keys until you get the word you want.

Oh God I forgot how slow doom mapping is. I finally installed UDM and wow my miniscule skills have entirely atrophied. I hope nobody expects my geometry to look great lol

I saw the Gunt Knight in the assets thread when I went to read it. Having seen you and @Hax1337 take two months to make it, I think I better appreciate just how much work that can be. It's somewhat disheartening. I don't think I could go from zero skill or knowledge to a complete Rioley-pinkie in less than two months, not without help. Even if I had someone helping me by doing all the sprite work, leaving me to do the coding, I'm not sure I could get that done in two months and put together a fun map.

Oh well. I shall have to come up with some other way to work a tribute to one of my favorite spergouts into Doom map.

Maybe I'll try to make a Rioley-pinkie after a map is done, to contribute to the Kiwi Assets Pack after the fact.
